I'm no expert, but some of that sounds like thunder from positive lightning. I love storms like this, at least when the strikes are far enough away you have a few seconds to react. Anything within a mile is extremely startling!
Wow that was a violent thunderstorm, great lightning footage there, we dont get thunderstorms like that here in the part of England where i live.so i get my lightning fix watching videos like this.😊
@@SarahCattell-v3j - Yeah, there’s some powerful energy released during these lightning strikes-you can feel it smell the purifying ozone it creates. Did you know ozone kills viruses?
There’s thunder, there’s loud thunder, and then there’s the kind of thunder that sounds like a hydrogen bomb exploding over your house. I hadn’t realized I never heard the latter until recently, and yeah it stays with you for a while afterward. The sound goes right through you.
If you can see a flash touchdown with hearing a crash immediately followed by a boom then the rumble, you're in the eye. And you should urgently seek shelter.

It’s so quiet at night and when thunderstorms occur they seem so much louder because nothing is really happening besides crickets chirping. This is very impressive and I'm quite jealous! I'm from England so we get more than enough rain, but virtually no thunderstorms anymore. And I used to love them. I clicked on this because it said "longest" as well as loudest. It reminded me of when I was woken by the loudest and incredibly long "rumble" of thunder. It was the sheer length of it that terrified me...I thought the earth was splitting in two. Then I felt rather stupid, but I had just woke lol. 🤯 I'm unsure why TH-cam have flooded me with loud thunder video's but...I've watched a few now, and yours is up there with the best. I'm afraid of thunderstorms, especially the ones that occur in the middle of the night. In the day I have plenty of time to drive to my safe spot, an underground parking garage. At night the parking garage is closed; so I just have to deal with it by turning on the light and putting on noise cancelling headphones. Everyone I talked to said they ran to their windows expecting an explosion! CRAZY!
That sounds like a positive lightning strike if it was heard from so far away and sounded like an explosion rather than thunder. If your storm is producing what looks like 'smooth channel' lightning with no return strokes (read: the lightning bolt does not appear to blink, but fade away instead), then it's highly likely to be a positive strike, which generates significantly louder thunder than negative bolts. Check out Pecos Hank, storm chaser, his video on lightning. He explains the difference between the two.
