I found your channel yesterday and you got me very interested in ultralight fishing. I picked up an ultralight rod today, paired with a reel I had laying around, got a jar of Gulp 1" minnows and some 1/32 jig heads. Went out to the lake and absolutely hammered the sunfish. So. Much. Fun. It's a catch and release lake so they all went back in.
My favorite has to be Pumpkinseed because of the awesome colors, although they all have great colors and patterns. They all seem to fight about the same. Also the biggest panfish I've caught seem to be Pumpkinseed.
For sure - Pumpkinseed up here are hard to beat! But I think a big Green Sunfish will pull a bit harder due to their bowling ball like build. Regardless, I love them all! 🤠🎣
Great Winter fish tip and fishing setup! Love your passion for fishing! My favorite sunfish are the golden-green sunfish with yellow-orange belly and black spots. 🎣👍
I just like catching fish Jim! Obviously big fish are awesome but these fish are so fun in their own way. The beauty of their colors and their aggression towards this jig was good enough for me 🤠
@@FishAnything If there were 5-pound pumpkinseed sunfish. you would need muskie tackle to land one. Great little fighters and amazing to look at. A bit farther afield for me, brook trout are as lovely as a fish can be.
@@FishAnything There are some remote lakes where the brookies get big, but I've never topped 10" or so. When I lived in Northern Ontario, the little ones were like panfish in some areas: catch lots, eat a few.
My favorite would be Green Sunfish; they are very aggressive and fight very hard. Typically they run a little larger than other species of Sunfish as well.
Hello, I learned about your channel thru JB Outdoors. I checked out your video library and I really like what I saw. I subscribed to your channel and look forward to your videos in 2020. Take Care and Keep Exploring The Outdoors.
I’ve had best luck with red worms or night crawlers cut into several pieces. My pond has like 85% hybrid- there’s pumpkinseed, red breasted, longear, and blue spotted. And they make some crazy looking hybrids
I use Berkeley Powerbait Micros on a small jig like that and it outfishes every other plastic or other lure for me. But small redworms are even better!
My favorite is the pumpkinseed Sunfish they are probably one of the most prettiest of a sunfish species and that are vivacious Fighters I love catching them on Tiny topwater popper lures but I still will not pass up a 8 or 9 inch bluegill thanks for sharing your video awesome
Green Sunfish are hard to beat for me, especially here in North Texas they are hard to beat for their abundance and aggression. But as for aesthetics the Long-ear Sunfish are the most stunning.
Totally agree with everything you just said! Longear are insane looking but Green Sunnies get big and fight hard! Plus they have huge mouths so they can take down much larger lures.
@@FishAnything That's the truth. I have a collection of pictures of juvenile green sunfish dangling off lures that are nearly as long as they are. But those 6-8 inch greenies fight way above their weight class. I know they get even bigger but my PB was 10 inches and it was one of the most exciting catches of my life. I hear they get well over a foot long and up to two pounds, which seems bonkers.
I like the big fattie bluegills with light gear is fun and I catch em where I fish for flathead's at night. It just makes for a fun day of fishing to fish the food chain of fish. On the plus side of it all it puts fillets in my freezer lol
Honestly I had a small drop shot rigged on this one time and I used that to hold the weight down during transportation. Never took it off because I figured I’d rig another up in the future lol
God damn I never thought people would purposely fish for sunfish. All day I was going for bass with worms. But the fricken sunfish took the worm every time.
"Is it global warming?" I'm sorry, but now its July 2023 and anyone who has spent half a day in the outdoors knows that IT IS GLOBAL WARMING, it's finally here and now it's over, there is smoking clouds and dust clouds in the skies, it's over dude, I can't believe it, I finally learned how to fish like six days ago

YES! Nice work man I’m happy you’ve caught the ultralight bug 🤠

I know right, pumpkinseeds are so cute
No matter what you're catching buddy, you always make it look like fun. This will be what I'll try next time I get out.
GO DO IT! I want more FitzyFishing
🤪
This was the first videos of yours I've seen. I really enjoy they way you talk over your videos. Subbed!
Thank you Tayllor :) Hope you're catching a few!
I as a fellow bass fisherman love catching what I can get in these cold winter months. We have ice in the way in the next couple weeks!
All fish feel great on the right setup!
Darn right! And I’m so jealous of your ice! Can’t wait to see what you get 🤠
pumpkin seed is my favorite sunfish, they just look great, fun to catch, and taste pretty cood
Great Winter fish tip and fishing setup! Love your passion for fishing! My favorite sunfish are the golden-green sunfish with yellow-orange belly and black spots. 🎣👍
Heck yeah thanks Rob! I love Green Sunfish 🤠 they might just be my favorite!
Totally agree with you! 👍
I love that you get pumped about a 4" sunfish. A fish is a fish.
I just like catching fish Jim! Obviously big fish are awesome but these fish are so fun in their own way. The beauty of their colors and their aggression towards this jig was good enough for me 🤠

Ohhhh I want to catch Brook Trout SO BAD
@@FishAnything There are some remote lakes where the brookies get big, but I've never topped 10" or so. When I lived in Northern Ontario, the little ones were like panfish in some areas: catch lots, eat a few.
these fish are everywhere but they look so cool
Exactly! Just because they are common doesn't mean they shouldn't be appreciated :)
My favorite sunfish is the Longear Sunfish. Especially from creeks. They will attack topwater and look like a saltwater species.
They are one of the prettiest fish for sure! I need to find some creeks which have some in my area. Not many Longears up this way.
My favorite would be Green Sunfish; they are very aggressive and fight very hard. Typically they run a little larger than other species of Sunfish as well.
I tend to agree! I like that they have a larger mouth so you can use bigger gear as well. Nothing like a 9” greeny on a good ol’ Ned Rig!

Thanks man I really appreciate the support 🤠🎣 tight lines!
The weather is crazy here too!!!!
It’s been weird everywhere this year!
I’ve had best luck with red worms or night crawlers cut into several pieces. My pond has like 85% hybrid- there’s pumpkinseed, red breasted, longear, and blue spotted. And they make some crazy looking hybrids
And I’d say over half of them are 6-10
inches
That is awesome!
Long ear sunfish are my favorite! They are small!..lol..but the colors are amazing! And my creeks are loaded with them!
Definitely an amazing fish! I don’t know of any in my area so I’m super jealous to say the least 🤠
My favorite is probably the green sunfish. They fight pretty hard for their size and have beautiful orange fins.
Totally agree! Love GS
My favorite has to be blue gill. Here in lower Alabama.
Darn right! Can’t go wrong with big gills 🎣
My favorite sunfish overall is pumpkinseed but my favorite I done caught is a bluegill green sunfish hybrid
Heck yeah!
Chain pickerel made a baby with a blue gill lol. Cool looking fish.
I use Berkeley Powerbait Micros on a small jig like that and it outfishes every other plastic or other lure for me. But small redworms are even better!
I love 😮the ❤pumpkin seed❤ because they are fun🎉 to catch 😂❤
They’re awesome!

Thanks! Yeah Pumpkinseed are soooo pretty and to your point, they fight hard. Awesome fish for sure :)

Definitely bonkers! Also nice word - bonkers - I like that!
My favorite sunfish is either a pumpkinseed, or an orange spotted sunfish
Have you ever caught a warmouth, Ethan?
Oh yeah! Those are some awesome fish - I wish we had a few more of them in my area.
another great vid! thanks for sharing! ps. what audio recorder are you using.. great sound
Just a classic GoPro Hero 5️⃣ on a chest mount! And I use a rode go mic on my big camera
I just use hotdogs and they so great but I might try this!
Nothing wrong with that either!
i wish i knew what apartment complex this was lmao. I wanna fish, but all my spots are frozen
This spot is frozen now too 😢 I am going to have to do some exploring this weekend!
Mule jigs rock!!! #dinksb4donks and pumpkinseed. So pretty. Should try the small rocket bobber
Woot woot! I’ll definitely have to pick up some rocket bobbers to try out! Thanks Steve 🤠
Favorite sunfish for me is the pumpkinseed
They are pretty and they fight good. Great choice :)
Any sunfish I can catch is my favorite
Good mentality!!
any FISH i can land is my favorite
Do you ever eat the sunfish? If you do how to you cook/prepare them due to the bones
I like the big fattie bluegills with light gear is fun and I catch em where I fish for flathead's at night.
It just makes for a fun day of fishing to fish the food chain of fish. On the plus side of it all it puts fillets in my freezer lol
Haha heck yeah! I love me some jumbo gills!
Does a Warmouth count?
Heck yeah those fish are awesome!
My personal favorite. I know a lake where i can catch them by the bucket, such good fighters and tasty!
Red Ear!
What's the best colour
For sunfish? Hard to say! Lots of good colors but I think Black is one of the most versatile.
I was going for some small bass, using a cut up soft plastic worm, pink, and a sunfish deVOURED it. Felt like a 1 pounder for a second 😅
I have never tried wax worms....I don't even know if I can get them here in Alabama. Are they called something else?
Jon Pogue what part of Alabama are you from?
I don’t know if waxworms are much of a thing anywhere other than the north. I’d just use maggots or crickets or something down south!
My favorite sunfish is green sunfish they fight hard theyre easy to catch and good cat fish and gar bait
Green Sunfish are definitely a lot of fun! They can get pretty heavy too. Lots of fun on ultralight :)
@@FishAnything yes they are
My favorite type of sunfish has to be the pumpkin seed. Aggressive, chunky and pretty. Bluegills is second.
Heck yeah! I love pumpkinseed too :)
Green Sunny! Large Sunfish take a real worm throw on bottom. If they R There , you have larger fish! 🐳
I love Green Sunfish!
Hard to say what those little guys are. Bluegill should have a characteristic spot on the rear of the dorsal, but I didn't see it on those fish.
I’m pretty sure these are Green Sunfish Bluegill hybrids after chatting with several people online. Regardless, they are dope looking!
Hey man what’s the rubber band on the butt of your rod for
Honestly I had a small drop shot rigged on this one time and I used that to hold the weight down during transportation. Never took it off because I figured I’d rig another up in the future lol
Online Outdoorsman ohh that’s the big brain
Yup green sunfish bluegill hybrid
You da man :)
I love pumpkinseed
Yeah they are gorgeous fish! Definitely falling more in love with them every time I find them here in Michigan!
Good job !!!!
Thanks Daveeee 🤠🎣
Works for stocker trout too.
I need to find some stocked trout ponds 👀👀👀
Orange spotted sunfish, going to put one in a tank
they look like pumpkinseed/greensunfish hybrids that somehow don't have the green sunfish mouth
Yeah definitely weird. The more I’ve researched it, the more I am confident they are Bluegill/Green Sunfish hybrids!
Favorite type of sunfish... pumpkinseed
Love me a jumbo pumpkinseed 🧡 such pretty fish!
I like green sundish, they fight hard.
I agree! One of my favorite fish 🤠
Sudish are fun
God damn I never thought people would purposely fish for sunfish. All day I was going for bass with worms. But the fricken sunfish took the worm every time.
My favorite fish would be blue gill!
Classic! Can’t go wrong 🤠
Try a quill float?
I’ll have to pick some up 🤠
My favorite is a blue sunfish
I will have to try that out! Never seen the 2lb Fireline variety :)
Properly pumpkinseed fight hard
Yeah they do! They are thicker than Gills and immediately turn to the side and put up solid resistance. Big fan of pumpkinseed :)
Bluegills
Either a warmouth or orange-spotted
I love Warmouth!
Redear sunfish/shellcracker superb fighters
Green Sunfish
Definitely a fun fish! 🤠🎣
numba 1
YEEE BOI
Big male Bluegill
I just subscribed
Thank you!
Smallmouth bass because they're very aggressive and strong Fighters plus they love to munch on crawfish
I love smalljaws!
Pumpkinseed
It’s a green Gill
You right!
A bass and panfish
Blue Gill. IN MY BELLY
Haha yummmmm
The only predator was Ethan!!!
My favorite sunfish are flying sunfish hahahaha
Lol I make sunfish fly a lot! And yes I believe birds and humans are about the only thing these fish have to worry about. Maybe snapping turtles 🤷🏼♂️
