The water is on board so no need to connect pipes, the hoses are too powerfull to be handled by people, they are more protected in the truck, they dont have time to do anything else, they are in open field, so they can park anywhere they want. what if they are training and an actual plane catches fire

    or do they leave one truck behind to extinguish it, or do they extinguish this first and then ride to the plane?

    • @Casey_Bass
      @Casey_Bass 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's still at least one, more than likely two fully capable companies ready to roll to an actual emergency while training is going on, as the video said the actual fleet has 29 units, very rarely to aircraft or airfield fires happen, it's highly unlikely they'd overlap, but if they did there's a contingency

      Andy R Aircraft fires, if they are on the field, are in a wide open space and for the most time on the exterior of the aircraft. Structural firefighting happens inside of buildings, so we have to go inside and find victims and the source of the fire and knock it done. I’ve done both since 1987 it’s two totally different kinds of firefighting.

    • @austinprieto2762
      @austinprieto2762 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Andy R thats why the hoses on “ordinary” fire engines are preconnected. these Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting, or ARFF, rigs are purpose-built for airports. they would not be effective at all on most structure or vehicle fires due to the fact that mobility is very limited in tight spaces like crowded freeways and narrow streets and alleys. these ARFF rigs are built for large open spaces like airports

      Would be cool but impractical. It’s almost impossible to put out full fledged forest fires. If this truck can dump it’s entire reservoir in less than 2m then it’s useless.

    If you don't get the fire out within 3 minutes, your just collecting the bodies after the barbeque, so yes the trucks must be fast and capable of dumping the water that quick. Though no matter what the kit, its only as good as the people that crew it.

    Interesting to see how visually (and seemingly functionally) similar these are to Oshkosh Corp's ARFF Striker trucks.

    • @wopmf4345FxFDxdGaa20
      @wopmf4345FxFDxdGaa20 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The functionality probably mostly comes from the standards for aviation fire fighting vehicles. Rosenbauer has been building fire truck with this visual style from around 2005, so it's not exactly a new design and relatively similar style already before that since early 90's.
