I used to own one of these many many years ago. Had a Dell Desktop with Windows 8, I think. It was SO long ago. I was dismayed when I broke the ball (to not drop it). Could not find a replacement... and I was a poor college student. I'm SO happy I found this on Amazon today, and this review convinced me to buy one! Many many MANY thanks to the reviewer here. God bless and ... again... Thank you
I got a normal Deft model. The biggest disappointment was that the button rebinding is not stored in the mouse to make it truly portable. But for it being my first trackball mouse I quite like it.
I have this elecom model and I love it. I bound the Fn1 button to copy, Fn2 to paste and Fn3 to return. Is very useful for code as well. And I agree the software can be improved a lot, before having it I had the Logitech's MX Master 3, is an amazing mouse and it's software is amazing, you can have a general settings plus settings per app. The only problem is that it has 6 useful buttons and they are all dedicated. I also have the kensington expert trackball the materials feel superior to the Deft Pro but it only has 4 buttons and you can only program 6 actions, but this one also has app specific actions.
Great review! I was looking for reviews for regarding the trackball and how it performs when it comes to gaming. I use a m570 logitech for years and Its good but not great. I never though about the deft pro for trading, Webull, fidelity, kraken etc. Watching how useful it was for tradingview really made it more valuable to me. Ordering when I get home. Appreciate the review! Excited to see how I end up using the mouse. Thank again
using the wired HUGE currently. Used to use a thumb ball, but I decided to go with something different; finger ball definitely feels to have more control.
I do wish you'd talked a bit about ergonomics. It looks to me like you're having to stretch your thumb downward slightly away from the trackball to reach left click, which would make my thumb and then my whole hand start to hurt after hours of use. It also looks like the little finger lines up on a button, which would cause me problems, because I want my little finger resting on a neutral surface. It doesn't look like I could rest my little finger without pressing the button.

I play FPS games with trackball mouses lol always have. No one gets how I do it but I've always done it for like 20 years now. Can't game with a traditional mouse at all
Which one do you prefer? I'm using a trackman marble but I'm finding that it's way too choppy when moving the ball slowly due to the low dpi and polling rate..
tried the HUGE and i'm trying the deft pro right now. Do you use pinky for the Fn2 , or would it be 4th finger for right click and fn 2. Also, i'm hoping the scroll wheel loosens up some.
@@TradingHeroes Any idea if this is compatible with the MacOS 10.14.6 Mojave by any chance? I hear its only compatible up to MacOS 10.13 I believe. Also, thoughts on how this one compares to the Elecom Deft.
@@TradingHeroes Thank you very much for the answer. Would you be so kind to share info on how well this works? I have a microsoft mouse with the MMB under the wheel and it works terribly. You will most certainly activate scrolling or movement towards one side before you actually click it.
@@TradingHeroes just ordered one, I used a thumb trackball back in the day but then I shattered my hand I lost 80% use of my thumb. These drafting trackballs have come a long way to personal use. I am so excited! Thank You
Uh Oh... The wheel is right under your thumb, but can't roll when you sweep you thumb toward, then away from your hand. Why install it for middle-finger curl /push-pull? OOOPS! design error
Just got this recently and did struggle to set the buttons for my Mac. Downloaded software from their website and able to use all the 8 buttons www.elecom.co.jp/global/download-list/utility/mouse_assistant/mac/ The struggle is that I need to figure out which button description is for which part of the mouse as not all are as described. I figured this out, hope it will work for you too! the mouse button location followed by their description; from the top: right button = b7 center = right button left button = b6 Side buttons: 11 o'clock = b5 1 o'clock = b4 small square button = b8 7 o'clock = left button wheel = wheel button

They are doing a good job with trackballs. Most useful ones since the Microsoft model.

Yeah, I also found that the other trackballs are missing at least one feature. Thanks for sharing your experience.

You're welcome, glad it helped. It's been working fantastic for me.
I want to respond. I had an old version of this, miss it, and plan to buy this one. That one worked GREAT for gaming, and I assume this will too.
Thanks for the review been looking for years trying to find a decent trackball mouse I think this might be the one to go with.

I have to say, it is a lot more efficient :)

Looks great.
I'm currently using a track man trackball mouse.
It's pretty darn good.
But I'm thinking about getting a wireless mouse.

Ring finger for right-click.
@@TradingHeroes i'll give that a go. thank you!
@@TradingHeroes and for Fn3, do you end up rocking the thumb back and forth then between Left Click and the Fn3 button?
When I had an older version, I used the middle finger for the right click
Great review. I really like the mouse too. But how do I program the extra buttons in Windows?
You can download the software from their site.
Hi, can you press the left button and scroll the wheel at the same time?
To highlight text?
Elecom's software works fine for me, and it's free.
It seems to work well on Windows.
Looks like a good option for a wireless trackball mouse. Any idea how this compares to the Kensington Expert Wireless Trackball Mouse?
That's the other mouse I'm looking at as well.
I haven't used the Kensington.

@@DesignerM3D I'm using it with macOS 10.15 and it works perfectly. Haven't used the Deft, only the Deft Pro.
Excellent mouse, unless you want to game. Very awkward, especially on FPS.
a micro-sub at that price point, bummer... this vs a Kensington Orbit fusion? (a couple less buttons)
Bought this mouse because I missed my Logitech cordless optical Trackman which was discontinued
shocking that mac os has limited driver support compared to windows for such a mouse.
steermouse works wonders.
What application did you use to customize the function buttons?
Link in the description.
There's an official app in the Elecom site.
www.elecom.co.jp/global/download-list/utility/mouse_assistant/
But does it have the middle button?
Yes, on the wheel.

can you adjust the speeds
Yes

Everyone will have their individual preferences.
Too bad this doesn't have a left-handed version.
Yup, the only downside...aside from the stock software not working on Mac.
