I have an hunch that those "Lakeland" pencils are Derwent pencils! Derwent are based in Keswick, and also happen have a line of pencils that are called "Lakeland". :)

What I do know, is that they got very popular with the elite during the 1800s era because, apparently, painters made up symbolic meanings for fruits and stuff, and the rich people ATE it up like noodles! They were like "Oooh that sounds meaningful, I have to have it!!" Marketing masters, our ancestors were. :3c The cover pic of the Eyeball pencils reminds me a lot of Nils Holgersson!

Not sure if anyone's explained it in the comments already, but rich people used to have artists paint fruits to show off their wealth. Exotic fruits were quite expensive, so having a peeled orange in a painting showed that you were so rich, you could afford to let an orange go to waste like that.

I have a SUPER cool challenge idea!! What if you both drew one half of the page!!! Like you would start by first making a loose circle for the head so it's in the same place, and then one at a time you would cover half the page and draw your part! It would be so coo!!!

The little boy character on the eye ball pencil box is Noddy riding mother goose! A whole bunch of kids books were made about him in the 40s and 50s, I’m lucky enough to still have one I got from my godmother before she was gone. 😊 this video made me happy.

I think Lakeland pencils art part of Derwent pencils. They have a pencil museum, we visited when we went to the Lake District a few years ago,. The museum is amazing and shows how they used to make pencils and how they make them now. Well worth visiting.xxxxx

The "Aesthetic fruit bowls" are a specific part of Dutch 'Vanitas' Art. Attached to this type of symbolic painting style is the latin phrase "Momento Mori" meaning 'remeber you will die'. Sooooo Aesthetic.

I think that's just for cartographers - back then you had to make maps by hand, no computers or anything... but it always looks better with color so you gotta grab 'em colored pencils! Me and my dad have a big soft spot for old maps and technical drawings
