Hey Bud I also turn my own bats and you have a good eye. Only thing I do which may help is instead of paint marks with the tape run the lathe and use a pencil to get the lines straight or alternatively run a permanent marker like you would a chisel - done in one quick pass and 100% straight.

what RPM are you using? im trying to turn a bat at 1600RPM but getting a lot of vibration and catches

Is it centered? I made a bat in my shop class using a lathe at around 1100 RPM.
I start with the lowest till its centered and balanced, I then do my turning in medium and sand in high. I don't remember the exact RPMs off the top of my head but I think it Is 1100, 1300, and 1600 RPMs.
What do you coat/varnish the plain wooden handle/grip with? Thanks!
I just use an oil based varnish you could find at Lowes or Home Depot.
Hey man, I have one more question. I got a special drill bit with a big cupping thing but it does not fit in the drill. It has a 1/2" shank. Do you have any ideas for what to do? Thanks!
It doesn't fit the drill because it's a router bit... use the proper tools.

What tools are you using and where did you buy them? My tools don't seems to cut the wood as well as your does. Also, how long does it take for you to make a bat?
I sharpened my tools on a bench grinder often and coated them in WD40 or an oil after use. Only takes about 45 minutes to make by hand with practice
About 5 years now takes practice
What kind of spray paint did you use
Rustolium 2x coverage is best but most sprays work as long as u seal it with a clear gloss

Do you spray a primer before you spray the paint?
And how about after the paint?
No primer, I used the Rustolium 2x coverage cans that can be bought at your local hardware store or Walmart. As for after, I used a clear wood varnish or polyerithane. Oil based varnishes hold up better but on a lighter color painted bat it can give a slightly yellowish tint.

just take a bat you like and measure every inch with calipers to get the diameters

What material you use for carving?
My guess from looking at the wood is he used maple, maybe mahogany, however looked very much like a hard maple.
If I use Rostolium 2x spray paint, do I need to put clear gloss on it? If I do, then how do you clear gloss it? Lastly, how do you add the decals and names? I would appreciate if you could answer. I'm trying to paint. I already have my bat made.
+JeterFFA once you paint you will need to put a clear varnish or something on it. And for decals the cheapest way that works well is printing your logo or a name on label paper, if you go to a local craft store you can get a paper water proofing spray. this keps the ink from running when you apply the varnish over it.

Does have any body who know the measures of bat -as how many inches of knob, handle and barel for 33 inches lenght bat ?
When I try to turn my bats, I'm burning the wood. How do you not burn the wood and what speed is the lathe spinning?
my lathe has 4 speeds I rough turn, if wood is rectangular or if its off centered on the lowest speed , I then do the rest of the turning on the second speed and sand at the fastest... I have never had a problem with burning wood but it could be due to really dull tools or spinning too fast , try sharpening them

The large roughing gouge is 2" and the smaller roughing gouge is a 1" .

T & A Automotive did you buy a set or just specific tools? If not, what specific tools would you recommend?
Why didn't I think of using the parting tool to get the dimensions correct.

Alpha Squad5 Certain types of wood are used to make bats, ash is always a good choice
Oak is good I just made one at school in my woodshop class
I use Balsa, Pine or Plywood. Just make sure to clamp the Plywood tight when Gluing the Layers.

The only problem I have is that the bat is mostly handle.

@@braydenhamilton4982 I purchase my lumber from a hard woods yard and mill it down into blanks myself on a table saw, usually costs $15 per bat. You could also get cylinder bat blanks off of amazon for around $20
