  • The contrast between Joseph and his brothers is great. Nothing bad is recorded about Joseph, but his brothers' lives are a mess. Joseph was faithful; his brothers were failures. Joseph had rock solid integrity; his brothers practiced wretched morality. Yet in the midst of it all, the Holy Spirit worked behind the scenes, using the most unlikely people to bring the Messiah into the world.
This teaching is from our series Genesis - 2009 with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Church.

Tamar knew she had to keep the bloodline pure, Judah having married outwith his tribe, therefore the sons were the problem, hence God killed them.
When Judah's wife died and Shelah had come of age, Tamar knew what she had to do.
Tamar must have been a pure bloodline. Just like Noah, who was righteous in his generation, Judah actually tells us Tamar was righteous also, more so than himself who had not kept his generation pure.

Why didn't you mention all the violence, sex, rape and incest in Genesis 38. You skipped all the good stuff.

You must’ve not watched it. He covered the entire chapter and talked about how it’s was a contrast to chapter 39 and Joseph’s righteousness. Judah sinned and followed the ways of the world, while Joseph was thrusted into the world and did not sin, but was faithful to God
