Next time try soaking the tilapia in dill or sweet pickle juice for 5-10 minutes befor cooking rince with cold water and dry off, you can even use pickle peppers juice it takes out all the muddy tast of any fish includeing salt water fish you can in a pinch use vinegar and water one tab spoon to one cup of water works the same
When we go catfishing and catch the Mudcat fish we used to throw them back until a friend showed us this recipe. Soak the meat in buttermilk in the refrigerator with whatever your favorite seasoning is for an hour to an hour and a half I don't know if it pulls the mud flavor out or the river flavor out or covers it up I don't know but it makes the fish taste a whole lot better and I have found it works with any fish saltwater or freshwater that buttermilk works
Those blue lights look really good, but I'd almost be inclined to potentially switch them to Red so they don't affect your night vision as much. Thank you for taking us along on the adventure!
Tilapia needs a little bluegabe trick, just let them sit in jalapeños juice or pickle juice or just plain vinegar, I'd assure you it will taste as good as any other fish
I caught a tilapia here in loxahatchee in a small canal and I used zatarans fish fry and towel dried and the just put in the breading right into the oil and I have to say I loved it.
Hay Tug on all your videos you are cooking up crabs, shrimp and fish you should open up a restaurant cause what I see on your videos makes me hungry "think about it". And keep up the good work on catching all that great seafood
Loved the video. What if you would run your gar thru a sausage grinder then fry them like you would sausage link just like you did the gar on this video just a thought. Enjoyed your show stay safe and healthy see y'all later on the next one bye bye.
gar scales are like elephants tusk ivory an you can make jewelry out of there scales necklace's an earning's you can paint on them like painted feathers Native Americans used them for a lot they made tools. jewelry , crafts all kinds of fun stuff love watching all of you
When I was a kid growing up in SW Florida in the 60's there were restaurants that advertised Okeechobee catfish dinners. I think the thought was that Okeechobee catfish didn't have the muddy flavor that fish from other areas did. Good video, thanks. BTW in our area it was the Seminoles that ate the gar balls.
I 100% agree with ya'll about the Tilapia! See, People here in Ga have always loved it and I have never understood the hype and was beginning to think that it was just me. Thanks for getting my back here, and proving that Im not the only one and that I am Not freaken crazy lol
Tilapia is great when cooked right. Never had gar balls but i have had bull balls and they are great. Keep up the awesome front line reporting from the trenches Captain Tugboat. And remember, the maximum range of an excuse is zero meters !!! 🎣🐟🐠🐡🐊🐙🦃🦌🦍🐬🦝
Awesome video y’all, I love that place at night! Man I need to give the gar balls recipe a try, those look pretty dang good. I usually just take the backstraps out and fry them up like chicken tenders. Man it’s great seeing others discover how good these fish truly are. Sticking Tilapia is a great way to keep the freezer full, it’s crazy how many people think these two types of fish are only trash fish lol.. keep up the awesome content y’all!
Great video Ian! You made some wicked shots catching those fish and the gar. Some cute little chicks that Krystal brought to the clean section, lol. I heard many stories about using pickle juice to ‘cleanse’ the meat of items. Personally, I use it for brining my chicken wings before I flavour and smoke them on my Traeger. So delicious! Thanks for sharing!!!
Man that looked like a good time out on the boat ive always liked the looks of those biats when there all lit up like that. Good video man the gar pattys looked good
Another great video. Ian here in the midwest Missouri, Kansas oklahoma they sell that tilapia for $6 a pound. And it's awful But all we can afford cause shrimp, crab, and any other salt water fish is 2 maybe 3 times more expensive.
Ian, that is the second time you 2 have been doing the "taste test" and saying it reminded you of conch fritters. Can't remember the other dish you had prepared...thx for the video.
Can they be caught on rod and reel ? If so what ki d of bait and or rig would you use ? Great video as always and I just cut the gar into nuggets and fry them up and dip them in Yum yum sauce
I have to say Iam I am loving your background music that rock theme is awesome! You look tired on the return boat trip! I still say you and Kendall should collaborate that would be so awesome! I like tilapia but we don't have a big seafood selection here where I am in west Texas though, I am wondering if you would like the tilapia if it were done like the gar patties or maybe smoked or smoked and made into a dip?
Ian, that was exciting. I would love to do that. You have the best videos every week. Thank you for allowing me to come along. Tell the ladies hello for me. God Bless. I thought you were on the tug this week?
A friend sent me some #s on bedding blue gill and red bellies in Dunns Creek. I rented a cabin for Weds. and Thurs. 29-30 . I hope I can get on them. I will let you know how I do. @@TugTrashOutdoors
You are very brave to eat the tilapia oh and by the way I have taken an airboat done that trail many times it doesn't look it but it does get cut a little tight with the trees 🌴 sticking out and lay down Annette Marsh has way too many tilapia in it kill em All great video look like a lot of fun
I caught a gar in Oklahoma. I split it with a thick knife and removed the meat with a sharpened garden trowel. I just scooped it out, breaded, and deep fried it. It was good just a little stringy. Native americans used the cut off the head and tail, cook what was left and cooped the meat out. Then they had a tube to make a quiver for their arrows after drying it out.
Grinding it up just seems like something you'd do after cooking the fish to me. Bit idk lol. I've never made gar balls either lmao. But I'd definitely give it a shot. Btw, they REALLY should come up with a name for that. 😂😂😂 other then just being called gar balls. 😂😂😂
Absolutely love eating gar fish it is really delicious and garfish balls and you can also make it fried like you would regular fish but you have to cut it in medallions approximately a quarter inch to a half inch thick and the only tilapia eat her from freshwater canals here in Texas that I know they don't come from overseas from a poop tank
Great bow fishing vid - as much fun as you could have under a full moon with out alcohol, drugs and women. Hit the tilapia with a sprinkle of bicarbonate of soda, sit for a couple of beers and then a quick hit with white vinegar before cooking and see if that mellows out that slightly muddy taste. Otherwise curry is the answer. Man gar have big balls.
Put an arrow in the water see how the arrow appears to bend at an angle in the water. it seems to rise at an angle different from the angle it enters the water. You need to aim low like that to hit the fish where you want to hit it.
Didn't know that a gar had balls. 58 years old and still learning. 😂😂😂😂
Good shootin, Tug.
🤣
😆🤣😆🤣😆
yep they are right behind his scrodem scales
Hahahaha
Awesome my friend. Thanks for using KFRED Seasoning and Fish Fry. I appreciate the shout out!

Wow! You killed it! And grilled it! Soak the talopia in pickle juice! It'll make it good!
Just like cat fish, they eat similar foods.
Mullet 🐕 says drop that tilapia on down here..I'll show ya what to do wit it 😂
Lmao

😆 dang!
If you need to stretch the fish add the potatoes, but egg makes a better binder. Make it like a Virginia crab cake. I am getting ideas.
Vinegar is a key ingredient for any muddy flavored fish.
Very true!
Awesome video bro, I'm subbed, here in south Texas we fry those huge tilapias whole, give it a try✌
That would be awesome! Thanks for the sub
Plant basil plants in the middle of your tomato plants keeps away the bugs/worms.
Thanks!
Hi Bro I think myself and Gabe wud have def requested some pickle juice soaking of the Gar first for abt 10 mins first 😮😅😂😂❤❤❤

Not going to lie. I eat pan fried Tilapia all the time. Crisp it up a little and season it well. Yum. I am a person that loves to eat fish tho
Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t horrible just had a little muddy after taste. It looked amazing

Next time get a brown paper bag put both dry rub in can you can shake and bake
