      Lucky you! It still happens but less and less. I’m it Paris again right now and yesterday I bought shoes at Les Halles (Westfield Mall) and once again they did not accept a photo of my passport. I have to go back today and bring my passport to get the paperwork

      @@zorymory i just went thru detax. I Dont recall if ur video mentiined this: after you scan, you have to choose "cash or "other". I paid originally with card so i chose "other". When standing in line, the displays on walls behind detax, teach you what to do. One confusing part was that an agent has to stamp your paperwork. I dud not do so. I just went straight ti machine n scanned. Any updates to ur video (pt 2?) Be great!!!

      @@chenglo8999 usually you choose what refund you want (cash or credit card) at the store when you purchase your item. The person asks how would you want your $$ back and they input it in the system. At the airport maybe you have to reconfirm it but you have to stick to the method you chose at the store. Also when you scan if the machine gives you green light you don’t have to see an agent for a stamp. I have never had to see an agent for a stamp. I think agents see you for bigger purchases (idk the threshold)

    Very useful video. Just for information, this tax (called TVA) is in fact of 20% for clothes, shoes and luxury items and it is applied in every shop.

    • @zorymory
      @zorymory  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes basically sales tax but you don’t get the full 20% back. On average you get 10-13% back

    • @Emerence-u8p
      @Emerence-u8p 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@zorymory The 20% is applied on sales but also for full price items (always and everywhere in France). Perhaps you will have more information for the difference with the rate of 10 to 13 % during your next trip.

    • @zorymory
      @zorymory  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Emerence-u8p As a visitor claiming tax back you would not get 20% back no matter what you do. Detaxe is a % of the TVA, not the full TVA

      Hello, thanks for your video! For cash refund, you mentioned that you need to “pass security” to go to the designated area, and this is not very clear to me, which security is that? Thank you!

      @@Fodolro So for cash you still go to the airport and scan your invoices at the tax back area but then you will have to go to collect the money AFTER you pass airport security. The security you clear to go to your gate

    Super helpfull video 😊What do they need from you when you chose payment by creditcard? Do you just insert your card, or do you need iban/swift etc? Are there any risks to this, like the payment never coming? And what is the place called if you choose cash? It is after security?

      the choice of card or cash refund is made during the paperwork processing at the store. you will be asked to produce the card you want the refund to be credited into, and it doesn’t have to be the one you used to purchase the items. once the info of all the receipts are entered into the détaxe system and your passport & card are swiped into the barcode reader, all these details will be generated into the form you see in the video which should be given to you along with all your receipts in an envelope. you will then scan the form(s) at the airport détaxe machine. on the form the exact amounts from each receipt will be shown with their corresponding refund amounts. the refund value is never 100% and certain items are by default only entitled to 5% refund instead of the 10-16% or so. regardless, if your length of stay warrants it, i agree that it is a simple step to get back the equivalent of the cost of a week’s metro pass, a couple of nights at a hotel or even more. i’ve personally not tried cash as i’m usually headed home & don’t need to carry unnecessary foreign currency on me, or spend time looking for the exchange kiosks & queue to get the refund. we are also pretty much cash-less in most countries now.

    • @zorymory
      @zorymory  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Choosing credit card is no different than when you pay with credit card for your purchase. As long as you follow the steps your refund should be processed. You can keep a copy of your form and contact the processing company if there is an issue (I've never had to do that because my refunds were always processed). If you choose cash, at the airport they will tell you where you can collect your refund. The place will be after security and you will need to plan some extra time for finding it and waiting for your turn (in case they are other people collecting refunds ahead of you). Cash refund overall requires more time at the airport and you get a smaller % back

    @zorymory This will be my first time doing a VAT refund, and I want to avoid any issues. I know the refund should be done on the last leg of my trip. I'm flying with Icelandair and have a stopover in Iceland before heading back to the U.S. Is Iceland part of the EU, or would my last stop be considered Paris, meaning I should file for the VAT refund there before my stopover in Iceland?

      If the machine flash red and you are sent to see an agent, the agent might ask you to mail the envelop with your paperwork (the mailbox is next to the detaxe area). Personally I’ve never had to do that.

    We are going to Paris by train from London. Do they have means for deTax at Train Station?

    • @zorymory
      @zorymory  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      When you arrive at the Gare du Nord Eurostar station, you'll need to enter the ticket gates first, go through customs and security checks, then you'll see the tax refund kiosks with obvious détaxe signs. Ask the staff on the station. I’ve never done it on the train station but I imagine it’s very similar to the airport process

    I’m confused. If you do the detax at the store, do you need to do it at the airport too? Do the Longchamp stores do detax? Merci x

    • @zorymory
      @zorymory  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kristinrae1 you do the paperwork at the store but the processing of your refund happens after you leave the country. For them to know that you have left the country, you have to scan the paperwork (there is a barcode on it) at the airport at the designated machines. I’m pretty sure Longchamp does detaxe, I’ve seen many smaller brands offer it so they must do it too.

    • @diannewi

      Yes, Longchamp stores do detaxe, also at the outlet near Paris. You must have your actual physical passport with you when you purchase, as stated in the video.

      If you get the green light they are no extra steps. I kept mine for my records. I’ve ready somewhere that if you get red light and have to see an officer, they might ask you to mail it (there is a mailbox by the area and I believe you just drop off the form inside)

      You need to go to a place that does tax back paperwork. You can go to the Westfield mall for example. Monoprix maybe does it too. I’m not sure about Carrefour, I’ve never tried.
