  • Driving from Betws-y-Coed to Black Rock Sands in Porthmadog. Starting on the main road - A5 later joining the A470 then the A487. Finally joining the A497 high street through Porthmadog then joining Borth Road to Black Rock Sands.
Betws-y-Coed, which is now within the Snowdonia National Park, stands in a valley near the point where the River Llugwy and the River Lledr join the River Conwy. The location is where a Celtic Christian community founded a monastery in the late 6th century CE. A village developed around the site over subsequent centuries. In the medieval period, the local lead mining industry brought miners and their families to the village.
Porthmadog, known before 1974 in an anglicised Portmadoc form and locally as "Port", is a Welsh coastal town and community in the Eifionydd area of Gwynedd and the historic county of Caernarfonshire. It lies 5 miles (8 km) east of Criccieth, 11 miles (18 km) south-west of Blaenau Ffestiniog, 25 miles (40 km) north of Dolgellau and 20 miles (32 km) south of Caernarfon. The community population of 4,185 in the 2011 census was put at 4,134 in 2019. It grew in the 19th century as a port for local slate, but as the trade declined, it continued as a shopping and tourism centre, being close to Snowdonia National Park and the Ffestiniog Railway. The 1987 National Eisteddfod was held there. It includes nearby Borth-y-Gest, Morfa Bychan and Tremadog.

Our best holidays have been in this area of North Wales, Beddgelert, Dinorwic and Talybont near Barmouth. Black Rock Sands is a great beach, handy to take the car on so we don't have to carry everything. 👍👍

Impressionnant !
Dommage que les images avancent aussi vite. 🙂
    Merci pour ces images.

Only mugs pay the fee to go onto Black Rock Sands. Been there dozens of times and never once paid a penny.
