Finest craftsmanship my ass... you have less than 3/8" of hardened steel on that edge it will wear into the hamon in less than 5 years worth of sharpening becoming useless soft steel garbage... no serious knifemaker uses them

Files are hardened so hard that it becomes brittle thus making it easy to snap but hard to scratch. The reason why its hardened to the point where it easily broken is so that it can work on steel since most steels are hardened (dunked in oil after heating) then softened to the right hardness (oven) and files arent softened to the most durable hardness.
It's for tempering, that's what gives the line above the edge in the end. It cause the spine heat slower then the edge. It's what's used in traditional katana forging.

Obvious cut and files are brittle, it's fairly easy to snap them like this (well, not exactly the same way, but you can do it with just your hands) It can happen even if you drop it on solid hard surface
@user-ej4eq5im4r me personally I've never found files to be overly brittle, I know they aren't the toughest steel in the world but I ain't never seen nobody just snap one barehanded without cutting it first.

Files are hardened so hard that it becomes brittle thus making it easy to snap but hard to scratch. The reason why its hardened to the point where it easily broken is so that it can work on steel since most steels are hardened (dunked in oil after heating) then softened to the right hardness (oven) and files arent softened to the most durable hardness.
