bryceowen "soda" almost always means "ramune," which is a lemon-lime soft drink that tastes nothing like sprite, 7-up, sierra mist, etc. It's not as sweet as most american sodas, but there's no bitterness from the carbonation either. There's an odd kind of softness to the flavor that I can't really describe. You just sort of have to taste it. As for coke/pepsi, "cola" is also a common candy flavoring in Japan. Not as common as soda, but still easy to find.
Just a little tip for anyone who buys this set in the future or any similar set, I got this set and found it is much easier to mix the powder with the water if you do it in the bag. So instead of pouring it out, add the water to the bag and mix it that way :)
