The truth is Carli Lloyd generation played in the era when the rest of the world was under funded and amateur or semi-pro and they could win by just being fitter than the other teams. No of the previous USWNT would h e been good to win the last World Cup, since the rest of the world has become fully professional and taken the women’s game into a near era of tactical sophistication and technical play. US are not winning because they re not hungry, it just that rest of the world has closed and surpassed the USA title 9 50 year head start in just 3 years of becoming professional. I remember during the buildup of the 2023 World Cup, and how the US were making commercials that it was almost given that they would win. The whole US vs the World Commercials. And I just thought they are in for a rude awakening. Because the European nations like Spain and England have progressed a lot since 2019. And during this time, the focus of the American players and Canadian players was not on the pitch. And it showed, Canada got knocked out in the group stages and then the US were knocked out in the Round of 16 and was fortunate to even get out of the group.

Now, the USWL is behind the mark, because the best players play overseas now. The infrastructure is maturing overseas and irons sharpen irons. Where have the American players gone though? They stayed behind in their league where it was comfortable and safe for the most part. Since the last world cup, who has tried to play overseas? Alex Morgan tried to play in England. Tobin Heath tried to play in England. But neither elevated while overseas and came back to the US, the retirement league. Instead of focusing on the game and feeling like the underdog, the team took on a more activist role and embraced a different attitude that wasn't earned. Carli Lloyd played during that shift and during the years of Japan being good, brazil being good, Germany being good, etc. The difference is she was considered the best of her generation and fought like she was the worst. I literally had the exact opposite conclusion from this video - that she is 1000% for US soccer, and willing to face the fire to save it. As for Lalas - he seems to be more for soundbites versus the heart speech from Lloyd.
@@stephenjeltema2323 Lalas speaks more passionately about the Men's team because that's what he played for, but the things he criticizes the men for, the language is the same for the women. He judges them in a similar vein, he's just less passionate for them because it's not his team in a manner of speaking.
