LOL the baseball cap thing is the same in Australia. Well obviously some people wear them but it's mostly just children. You rarely see fully grown men wearing them. But in the US it's totally normal to see a 30 or 40 year old man wearing one.

It's hilarious that Americans think "they won" WWII. It's actually quite insulting to the countries that stood up against the Nazi's long before you decided to help and that was only because the Japanese turned up at your doorstep. Also, the best Batman was played by a British actor. The current Superman is British. The previous Spider-Man was British and the current Spider-Man is British lol.
Britain was on its last legs before the US and western states intervened, getting bombed on the daily. Even before the declaration of war, the US was supplying Britain with vital aid and resources The US didn't single handily win the war but It definitely saved Britain from assured destruction.
Dan Sagawaga the British were considerably outnumbered yet they were withstanding them. That's exactly my point, the Americans helped but act like they can claim ownership of it when there were many countries fighting long before they turned up.
We joined 2 years after the war started... it lasted for about 7 years. We were there for the bulk of it. It's not our fault Europe has been fighting over land for centuries. Our country used to mind our own business and trade with others, until you cunts started fighting.
The US was in the midst of an economic depression and wasn't a colonial nation (the US's military was smaller than Romania's in 1939) with a massive standing military. This bullshit about "pure evil" wasn't fully known until 1945 moron, to wrap Britain up in righteousness is laughable considering this. If Germany was some sort of "pure evil" that had to be stopped in British minds, they wouldn't have engaged in the "Phoney War", shruggingly sacrificing Poland, and giving Germany a full head of steam before reacting. It's a clever way how you just ignore reality and the reactions and factors which actually determined the reactions of allies. The US was pouring aid to Europe, taking up defense of perimeter Europe and building up its forces well before (The US signed the Atlantic Charter IN 1941 BEFORE PEARL HARBOR MORON) Pearl Harbor dipshit. Your sense of history is ignorant and infantile. In fact, you essentially know nothing about WWII. The US gave as much as it could, as soon as it could. The US was in Africa in 1942 (American commanders wanted to assault Europe in 42, it was Churchill who, wisely, wanted the US to start in AFrica and cinch down on Germany towards Europe like a "closing fist"), it had already been sending aid, defending Iceland, building for war since Britain finally decided to fight after dithering during The Phoney War. It was Britain and France's moronic, botched, handling of Germany following WWI which created the very conditions which gave rise to the Third Reich and British and French dawdling in the opening stages of WWII which prolonged it

It's a massive pet peeve of mine since I'm a translator and interpreter. Same in Australia, we tend to understate things, so "it was quite good" or "it was pretty good", probably means "it was very good" :). Like if you ask someone how they are and they say "not bad", they mean "I am fine, thank you" :).
The "Mid-Atlantic" accent was popular in early 20th century among the American upper class and actors. It was basically a combination of British and American. It was not a natural accent, it was only used by people who were trained to do so.

Its not surprising the British are not overly fond of the Americans pissing on the sacrifices made by their war dead and veterans so yeah, when that happens the result is indeed predictable.
I think British people generally like Americans and like a lot of American culture. Of course, this is not in evidence in TH-cam comments when it's all about the patriotism, which Americans are infinitely more convincing at. But the whole 'we saved you in WWII' thing . . . oh dear, Stephen, I hope that was satirical.
Well, I'm from Europe and can honestly say I've heard the "well, you're not speaking german because of us" or "we saved you in WWII" more than once. Which in itself is funny because my country wasn't involved in either of the world wars. However, I do think in this case it was just a joke so no biggie.
I hope he was joking. I hope that while it's something that Americans are taught to think (patriotism and all that) most people know it isn't entirely true. Helped, sure, but I think we were doing OK already...
TheEpicGameHub Lucky the British don't have their own voting fiasco in the recent past as well as a history of fucking up the world, otherwise that comment may look slightly myopic :p
Ariel Steinsaltz "There are many British accents". Yes, exactly, probably a lot more, but that does nothing to narrow it down though. She is from London, so her accent is more accurately described as an "English" accent which is generally understood to be an accent from south east England. More specifically it is an RP accent (a posh, south east English accent, like the Queen's). I know that there are many English accents, too, but at least you exclude Welsh, Irish and Scottish. Would you call a Belfast or a Glasgow accent a "British accent", too? I certainly wouldn't but they are just as "British" as Emily's accent. I admit that perhaps it's a bit pedantic to point this out, but I don't think many people in the UK would ever refer to a "British accent", it is far too generic. It's more of an American thing.
I watch Emily Blunt’s movies....I don’t like it,.............. *I LOVE IT!!!!!* And also I love how polite Emily is, even at the end when Stephen usually always says “Please stick around” and his guests usually never reply. But Emily said “I will” and idk, ahhh! I love her ❤️ ♥️
Don’t people recognize that Colbert was making a joke when he said “Why don’t you like us? We saved you in WW2” Right? If you know Colbert, you know that he wasn’t legitimately claiming that the English should like Americans because we saved them in WW2, and so there’s no reason to think he was legitimately claiming that Americans saved the English in WW2. Certainly not on the basis of that joke alone.
The interesting thing is that “quite” CAN be used as an amplifying adjective in British English, but isn’t always. Examples: “Quite wonderful” = “excellent” “Quite good” = “just above mediocre” “Quite lovely” = “very lovely” “Quite attractive” = “above average looking, but not stunning” “Quite” as an amplifier rather than diminutive is now associated more with the upper classes.
I know it was said in a joke way but it really annoys me when Americans says "we saved you". No no no. You HELPED DEFEAT Germany. America only joined the war once their country was attacked and in danger. Don't go and take all the glory. No country would ever be able to defeat a country in war alone. Not even America.
We possibly could have defeated Germany alone but would not have had enough motivation to do so since it was Japan mainly that attacked us... though Germany did sink some American ships with their "U-boats" aka submarines. That might have risen to the level of a war declaration at some point if Japan had not decided to hit Pearl Harbor for no good reason.
The US was never in any danger from Germany. France surrendered to the NAZI's, the Soviets used to be their allies and The UK was perfectly happy to give them Poland so when you whine like a bitch because the US didn't' save your ass sooner that's just your self hate for not helping Poland. The Fact is France and the UK had it coming. Without their reparations the NAZI's would have never happened.
I was in a classy cafe in London a couple weeks ago. I loved it!! They were so nice to me and answered my questions about the English Breakfast tea! But I wasn't wearing a baseball hat, I agree it's a bit childish wearing it but hey
That WW2 comment was a joke, amazing how tribal and emotional people get. Its a chat show comment, never intended to be an accurate historical analysis!
Baseball caps are okay. It's just the assholes that wear them backwards that are annoying. That makes them a faux American, which is almost as bad as being American.
Stephen, Mid-Atlantic was that early Hollywood accent used in many Turner Classics. From what I've read, they believed the combination of an American accent with that of British pronunciation, made them sound more refined.
I feel like it really isn't even a serious question whether or not baseball caps are worn in England. Just look at the snazzy and luxurious head gear worn by the Queen's Guard, or the entirely magnificent head gear worn by the Queen's Life Guard. In short, any country with trained killers sporting THAT kind of head gear don't waste their heads with baseball caps...
Speaking of accents as a British person, watching a British person who's clearly lived in the states for a long time talk is properly weird because nobody in England actually talks like she does.
I wear a baseball hat in England; I've been a Cubs fan since 2006 and have 4 Cubs caps (one autographed by Ryne Sandberg). I've just ordered my World Series Champions cap.

clever but America had no obligation to defend Europe prior to WW2
funny how some people seem to think that justifies all the shit the US did after that.

Its not surprising the British are not overly fond of the Americans pissing on the sacrifices made by their war dead and veterans so yeah, when that happens the result is indeed predictable.
there's something extraordinarily charming about this woman.
Very true. I was in London for 2 weeks, not a single baseball cap.
Two effortlessly charming people having a riff- good stuff.
"Why don't you like us? We saved you in WW2." For starters, don't tell us you saved us in WW2!! It really pisses us off.
What a... GREAT!!!... guest she is! Don't know any of her other work, but I was amazed that she pulled off her role in Sicario.
i was ALWAYS the only bonnie in school...i FINALLY met another bonnie when i was 30 years old, at work...it was so exciting!! for both of us!!
"I look back on it with great fondness." 😅 She used Mom's line for WW2. 😅
She seems perfect in every way. John’s a lucky man.
It was! I'm fairly certain that most Americans are just joking when they make comments like that.
True - I don't care what a satyr thinks about me, or even a centaur or woodland sprite.

Lucky the British don't have their own voting fiasco in the recent past as well as a history of fucking up the world, otherwise that comment may look slightly myopic :p
So the book is set in England, but in the movie she's the only one with a British accent?
Sadly, yes.
I was confused by this too, but apparently they changed the movie's location to New York to make her alcoholism make more sense.
English accent. There is no such thing a s a "British" accent.
Nilguiri There is... any accent that is used in Great Britain. There are many British accents (17 common ones I think?)
Ariel Steinsaltz
"There are many British accents".
Nonsense! We do like Americans. Like she said we are just not effusive! I like American manners, being called sir or Mam, it’s very respectful.
Omg, such a pleasant interview to watch. Incredible peacefull and joyfull energy :)
That Stephen Collins guy rn is probably like “oh my gosh, she said my name”
I watch Emily Blunt’s movies....I don’t like it,.............. *I LOVE IT!!!!!*
And also I love how polite Emily is, even at the end when Stephen usually always says “Please stick around” and his guests usually never reply. But Emily said “I will” and idk, ahhh! I love her ❤️ ♥️
Emily Blunt, effortlessly making any segment she's in better! Love her!
I love when English people say “how dare you?”
It just, sounds great and powerful for some reason😂😂
I think she's gonna be a great Mary Poppins. Looking forward to it! 😀
every emily's interview is soo funny, she is awesome!
Emily is amazing so talented and I truly hope she becomes a Dame one day. She does us British people proud ❤
The interesting thing is that “quite” CAN be used as an amplifying adjective in British English, but isn’t always. Examples:
“Quite wonderful” = “excellent”
“Quite good” = “just above mediocre”
“Quite lovely” = “very lovely”
“Quite attractive” = “above average looking, but not stunning”
“Quite” as an amplifier rather than diminutive is now associated more with the upper classes.
Pretty sure the US could have beaten Germany alone. It's just not what happend.
@@medievalfantasynetwork7868 GERMANY declared war vs the USA not the other way around.
@@GFSLombardo Not mutually exclusive.
I was in a classy cafe in London a couple weeks ago. I loved it!! They were so nice to me and answered my questions about the English Breakfast tea! But I wasn't wearing a baseball hat, I agree it's a bit childish wearing it but hey
She has the best laugh...♥️
Mid-atlantic? Quite good description :)
That was the funniest, most adorable 'hey!!' EVER......
the best interview in some time, well done! :)
Bloody brilliant she is!
That WW2 comment was a joke, amazing how tribal and emotional people get. Its a chat show comment, never intended to be an accurate historical analysis!
No baseball hats in England? Maybe wherever she grew up, but certainly not everywhere.
Baseball caps are okay. It's just the assholes that wear them backwards that are annoying. That makes them a faux American, which is almost as bad as being American.
We are all trying to ignore the existence of chavs in baseball caps. Please don't remind us of the fall in standards.
Stephen, Mid-Atlantic was that early Hollywood accent used in many Turner Classics. From what I've read, they believed the combination of an American accent with that of British pronunciation, made them sound more refined.
awesome interview!
I just love this woman so much! She is incredible.
2018?? I never get tired to see this interview. Emily is just perfect. Love her ❤
her laugh is so cute and honest
Emily Blunt is so beautiful. she's gonna make a great mary poppins
She is a true blessing!
Would love for her to get an Oscar soon. She's brilliant
“You sounding very mid-Atlantic” 😂😂
She, Kate beckinasale, Kate winslet…are among English actresses I really like🙏👍🥰💃
can emily blunts mom be a guest? she sounds like a riot!
There are fewer more distressing sights than that of an englishman in a baseball cap. Amirite fellow Libertines fans?
Snaggle Toothed Christ mate
Snaggle Toothed A tad much hahaha
Bill Bones knows what you mean.
Eyyyyy. So do the boys in the band.
Speaking of accents as a British person, watching a British person who's clearly lived in the states for a long time talk is properly weird because nobody in England actually talks like she does.
Well she's probably worked with a dialect coach for roles too.
Just seen the film - I confidently predict at least an Oscar nod for her this year...
I wear a baseball hat in England; I've been a Cubs fan since 2006 and have 4 Cubs caps (one autographed by Ryne Sandberg).
I've just ordered my World Series Champions cap.
4:11 still kills me. Hahahaha. I go back here everytime I feel down.
"Take your baseball hat off!"
like a few people have said, here in the uk its only really chavs that wear baseball caps, thats probably why a lot of us look down on them haha
Tbh I don’t think I’ve seen a chav go as far as to wear a baseball cap
Emily Blunt reminds me why some men get married. She's something else.
I am OBSESSED with her make up and outfit.
Loved Mary Poppins growing up and was dazzled by Julie Andrews in the theater. Can't wait to share the new movie with my granddaughter in the theater!
Imagine “saving” a country, but then getting beaten by farmers with sticks in Vietnam
"You (English) don't like winners!"
"Winners like... North Vietnam?"
What ????? 🤔🤔🤔
mpoboy71 ur a bit late mate
@@anonUK Shup up!! lol it was a tie!
You are SAVAGE! 😉
Emily Blunt, Katy Perry and Zooey Deschanel: the triplets that were separated at birth.
You forgot Gabrielle Anwar. :)
Don’t insult Emily
And Marion Cotillard. But Marion and Emily are definitely top two tho
ganteng3 in certain angles yea 😂😂 but she looks a little older than the rest
You missed a 4th, Siwan Morris (Angie from Skins)
Emily Blunt's mother sounds like the Queen of England.
Emily Blunt's mother sounds like a stuck-up and arrogant Brit, and a bit blunt for my liking.
1:14 - "FRIEND...DEFINE....CARE" ...CARE IS WHEN YOU FOCUS ON THE OTHER PERSON, WITHOUT HARM YOURSELF, COMPLETE FOCUS ON THE OTHER PERSON'S WELL BEING.... THIS IS CARE.
I think Emily Blunt is one of the few celebrities Id absolutely freeze over if I ever met. She is sooooo gorgeous
