Elliot Eickholtz Go Pro Cam 18th Birthday final run through on the day of the Lawrence Central High School Marching Band Invitational. Section Leader: Luke Malone
Man, does this bring me back to my high school years. Don't think a lot of people realize how many hot, thirsty hours spent in the sun it takes to put together one field show. Loved every minute of it.
Ok... I’ve watched this at least 20 times and idk of the drumming makes more happy or the trombone in the beginning going, “that’s loud” in the most perfect voice ever
This video is what made me decide to join marching band (it's inspirational af somehow) and my first season was the best few months I've had in a long time. Its kinda weird how such small things can make such an impact. But anyways, thanks. You a real homie.
I’ve been looking for this video for days. I remember watching it like a year ago before I started marching band. Fresh meat in high school, and this video just really brings back memories before I started.
You actually do, but in different ways, most people count before they play, and there keeping time with they're feet as they play or they're watching the drum major, there are some shows where the battery is facing the other way so they do have to count
Likely not, depending on what you're going for- most of the time you wouldn't want your head to be this tight on a set, but if you want it like that then go for it it's mostly personal preference- although others may not like it much 😂
Percussion takes a lot more practice and any chance you get, grab a pair of sticks and try new stuff, look up content like this and try to achieve harder rudiments and stick tricks. Ok im done
Jason Doughnut In pipe band you would open the grip so you use fingers but I keep my fingers on the stick for rolls in normal marching band, but only pipe band I would open up the grip more
Jason Dhonau i might be late. But your thumb and pointer finger should never disconnect. It’s what gives you control of the stick when you’re at 9-12 inches.
I like how each section has their own uniform so to speak… I hate that ya’ll don’t have actual field to particle on. Blessed to have grown up in a Time when we had our own practice field.
Do you have to play like that? Or can you have your left hand like your right hand? I don't know much about this stuff but I'm a drummer but I'm kinda just starting
Realistic Channel Name It is traditionally played in the manner shown in the video. I'd suggest watching some dci vids to get a good grasp on the technique. This video was posted a few years ago, and my finger placement and fulcrum is pretty trashy. If you like this style of playing, I'd suggest watching vids of santa clara vanguard, or bluecoats. I am by no means an expert on this topic, and there are many styles of playing. Do some research, try some techniques out. Find what suits how your body is built. Im a thin guy, and 6'7" tall. This technique felt great with my large hands and long lanky limbs. Whatever fits you best, and strive for that. Best of luck m8
For us we do two sets of eights and a split version were depends what version we play for our snares they have a weird flam and triplet diddle like thing where our bases do 32nd notes split thing forgot what we call it my school isn’t fancy we don’t do competitions anymore because of our old band director we got a new one so we will see if this or next year we can go to competitions our tenors haven’t gotten a variation yet because they are both still haven’t shown up at rehearsal

Yall are so negative about gaurd lol
2:50-3:13 lmao your counting is amazing
Lmao some Coats references in there.
Tyler Blevins Ninja OMG XD
I have always been fascinated by drums, and specifically marching snare. Always wanted to play. In fact it is the main reason I go to parades.
Normal snares are boring and make a simple clap, whereas marching snares make that satisfying sharp click
@@eatnd Remo White Max Snare Drum Heads are my favorite.
@@eatnd nah concert snare better
man this is the exact shit i did in high school, including the random shit to keep time. those were good times lmao.

Anyone else's OCD kick in with how the head is centered
calvin jones a lot of groups tilt heads to know exactly where to hit on softer sections
Yes. Omg somebody actually understands me
pvt.edgy We use goof off to take off the logo completely, looks a tad cleaner that way
calvin jones yeah, the head isn’t centered. But the drum is also tilted at a bit of a weird angle
Yes
3:34 I hear the tenors!!!!! My drums!!!
Y'all weird lmao .. za Kevin malone
This is literally how our Caney Creek High School drum-line counts, and talks to each other. I should know lol, I´m in it.

Do it! It’s not that hard to get a handle of the basics. Everybody has to start somewhere
I’m in pit percussion. This was cool
This was freaken awesome!
Y'all just know that one girl on the color guard that is just fine af and she distracts you as you are trying to play?

素晴らしい技術…
暑そうな中での練習…!!
ほんと凄いです!!感動!!
大トロなめ太郎 日本だとマーチングバンドと言うと馬鹿にされてしまうような存在ですが本当は素晴らしいものです。
Alex USA
Alex USA 返信ありがとうございます✨
その通りですね!d(*¯︶¯*)✨
Fucking weebs
Y'all was doing the 8816 warm up
My cat liked this video
When he said *hi* I felt that
Me responding 3 years into this video I love it
So weird to think that I was in this show and that this video has over a MILLION views! Wild.
Wild indeed. I didn't even like this show and it blew up for whatever reason. Hope you're well, whoever this is.
Gonna try for marching band next year. If I don't get snare drum, I can always do guitar since you don't even have to try with guitar in marching band
I feel I'm in there.
oi

Elliot ur famous
Are you counting the whole time? I mean like the WHOLE TIME even when ur playing. I’m new to this HELPPP
Alex SPORTS haha no, you don't count while you play.
You actually do, but in different ways, most people count before they play, and there keeping time with they're feet as they play or they're watching the drum major, there are some shows where the battery is facing the other way so they do have to count
You should always count during everything
Slurmp No... only count between playing not during
Alex SPORTS yes
What kind of Go Pro did you use? Trying to find an action cam haha
what's song??
“That’s loud.” Lmao
The first warm up is 8-8-16
How do you drum with a watch on?
how tf do you remember all of this
Are those inov8’s drums? Touch of gold? 🤔
Taylor Srafin Hell yeah
Would these type of marching sound good on a drumkit?
Likely not, depending on what you're going for- most of the time you wouldn't want your head to be this tight on a set, but if you want it like that then go for it it's mostly personal preference- although others may not like it much 😂
Do you have any tips or anything for new percussionists? I'm thinking about switching from clarinet to percussion.
Percussion takes a lot more practice and any chance you get, grab a pair of sticks and try new stuff, look up content like this and try to achieve harder rudiments and stick tricks.
Ok im done
I love percussion. Im in marching band i play snare. But most if all i play the drum set.
Some please help. In traditional grip does the thumb and index finger on the left hand stay touching during rolls? Or do you open the fulcrum?
Jason Doughnut it all depends on what is comfortable for you but with my rolls, yes they doo stay touching while in traditional

Hi
FTAB ?
My school uses the same variation for 8's!
ItsMeJay That's what we call them too, I just thought other people would call them 8's too
Yea no it's called 8,8,16 and it's the most basic version.
We do 8,8,16, but starting not the left and then 16th notes at the end
For us we do two sets of eights and a split version were depends what version we play for our snares they have a weird flam and triplet diddle like thing where our bases do 32nd notes split thing forgot what we call it my school isn’t fancy we don’t do competitions anymore because of our old band director we got a new one so we will see if this or next year we can go to competitions our tenors haven’t gotten a variation yet because they are both still haven’t shown up at rehearsal
Most high school drumline does 8,8,16s
スネアの音良すぎ
Ooooh starting off with 8 on a hand.
i’ve always wanted to get into percussion, but i’ve invested way too much time on clarinet
Never too late to start!! You don't have to give up on clarinet!
Do you have winter percussion at your school
