Yeah...I keep suggesting paradox throw their hat in the ring. Something to fill that Sims/The Guild hybrid void that neither game series has managed to scratch perfectly. Something where you can make a roleplaying life-sim sandbox in a specific time period and all that entails.
That was and remains one of my biggest complaints about the Sims 3 (aside of course for just getting a new engine optimized to run that sort of game). Despite chronologically being a Prequel to Sims 1, it has even more advanced tech and every human being is born with a cell phone in their ass that can cause the game to break/work strangely if you try to remove them to create a town set in like the 70's or 60's).

You know what would be kind of cool? A City-States expansion. It would have a few more buildings, probably, but also upgrades to public services so they can function independently of any county or national government, the ability to enact policies that a nation would usually deal with, a governance system consisting of: elections, having to work with different caucuses of representatives, drawing voting districts, things like that. It would require a hell of a lot of research and it would take a while, but I think it would certainly shake things up.

I'm a simple man, I see a new video on LGR and I cry out in an unreasonable amount of joy and enthusiasm, startling my coworkers in the process. I bull-rush through the cubicle isle, knocking women and children out of the way as I scream in excitement "LGR! LGR!" A tear comes to my eye. A tear of joy. I wipe it away as I remember I need to stay macho. Everyone begins to stare. I don’t care. I’m already out the door and starting my car. I speed home with the fury of a starving lion taking down a gazelle. But the lion is malnourished. So am I. I haven’t had a new LGR video in a few days. I finally arrive home, my palette whet. Work clothes off. Comfy clothes on. I sit back, relax, and begin the journey. Oh sweet heaven. I am home. I watch the episode and it really lubes my gears something swell. 8 sweet minutes later I fall asleep from the crash after the adrenaline rush. I awake the next morning to a phone call. It’s from the boss. I’ve been fired for leaving work on a Monday at 8:30 in the morning with no notice of absence. I don’t care, LGR!

    • @ghostbirdofprey
      @ghostbirdofprey 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Definitely agree. With Intel and AMD battling over who can cram more cores onto their CPUs, it's a good time to look at making a new game with new system requirements for better AI. Not to mention, as much as people like modding, better streamlining would help (for instance the loading screen mod should be something baked into the game from the start)
Not only that zoning has always been wonky where roads curve and meet at angles besides 90 degrees, so that could use a fresh look as well.
Finally, the network add-on mods for both Cities Skylines and also past sim games (notably Sim City 4) really speaks to players wanting more robust options for roads and transit, and the road mod tool they added some time ago is nice, but it would be much better to have some sort of dynamic road system and a lane chooser when placing roads.

    • @AlexS-oj8qf

It doesn't have to be Cities Skylines 2. It could be DLC or Free update, just like they do in CK2. The game is VERY young in Paradox Calendar and there are still so many opporturnities to explore, like environmental change, local politics, social demographic, Holidays and Vacation themed DLC, etc.
In other note, they really should rework dating syatem because a few day would pass and the sun hasn't setted yet. Also there is no overall trebds, for example people just build according to level, but there is no change in housing style trebds, or highrises change, like if you already have a mature city, it'll remain that way which could resulted in a pretty boring gameplay inthe long run.

I don't think we're going to go too fantastic, that's never really been a thing in Cities Skylines. The recent DLCs have all been about expanding the unrealistic tiny prefabs into free-form areas that can serve the entire city, and I think there are a few more things in the game where that would be somewhat easy to do.
Prefabs relating to outside connections other than highways are one big area where districts could improve realism dramatically, as airports, harbors and railway terminals are all way too under-sized currently and it's hard to get the AI to use them properly. (For example, you can't just add extra capacity to a busy cargo terminal by building another one next to it, as the AI will always drive to the closest one even if the other isn't busy). Being able to build a large harbor, train yard or airport facility and have the game reward you for it by actually making use of everything would be really nice.
Another thing that could do with expansion is hospitals - the closest several hospitals to where I live are all huge, sprawling complexes where the original building is more of an administration office now and basically every specialty has their own building, from trauma medicine and orthopedics to oncology and maternity wards. There's one hospital in the general area that tried to build tall, but even then a bunch of services had to move out into adjacent buildings because of capacity issues. The only problem is that it'd be difficult to sell a DLC that only does hospitals for 13 or 15 dollars, and while you could combine it with a free-form cemetery system, I don't see how you'd level that up in a similar way to a hospital. :(

    Traffic DLC?
-More roads like 5 Lane roads or roads that can support trees bike lanes and parking all at once.
-Overhaul traffic and make the AI a bit smarter. Make it where the could do U-Turns or wait to turn until cars stop coming. Cars move to the side or stop when emergency vehicles are approaching.
-Add signs like no u-turns or yield near schools. Add street signs and no parking or add red curbs.
-Accidents and just inconveniences. Car accident maybe a very slim chance a semi tipped over. A tree fell down on the road or the lights are not working.
-New lights like traffic lights that have the regular three but with the turn left light too. Lights that you can change the length of how long the lights are green before it changes to red.
These are the basics I think and there should be more that I can't think of right now. I live in Los Angeles and I am basing these ideas on the stuff I see on the road.

The sameness of the mechanism was also a problem for me about buying this. It makes sense, they put effort into adding this capability into the game, so they're milking it. Maybe if it weren't third in a row using it, it would have seemed more worth it after something else.
IMO, and I'm working out a good way of wording it, the game needs underlying changes to how the game "works". And things like traffic management, asset utility and pedestrianised areas could help add more "world" to the game, if the game had the ability to do this. You can make your own roads to allow just heavy goods through an area, or use districts one road wide to forbid anything but city services access, but these are both fairly cludgey, they are part of traffic management mods, though. You can't mix industry (say, for example, the local machinist or business baker, to supply workplaces or shops some local goods) with residential (the old world had business owners make the housing for the workers right next door so that the workers could get to producing quicker), and things like the Mall are not shops, but tourism spots. Why not add policies that allowed housing to mix in an industrial zone that mitigates the downsides of pollution for residents (at a cost)? Add policies that allow industrial zones to produce without much pollution (at a cost) in residential areas, so you can mix up housing with urban residential appropriate factories? Make ploppable buildings able to count as X cells of Y type, not only allowing the Malls to act as actual shops, but also allowing modders to add those features to their plopable assets?
As always, the problem for game writers is how to do this so that you can sell it and make money.

    • @superdau

Yeah, this DLC feels very lazy. Also very US centric. Many universities around the world don't run on "campuses". Students just live somewhere in the city, university buildings are in different places and none really cares about university sport teams in Europe.
They need to fix the cargo system for example, like make a cargo train terminal that is worth it's name and can deal with all the cargo coming in (apparently a limitation of the code, because even after all those years there's no single mod or asset that fixes this). Or give control if a cargo terminal is used for inner city or import/export only. Or make a cargo terminal only service the district it is placed in.
A change on how buildings grow would be nice, too. Currently higher level buildings are "denser" as well. Would be nice to have low level, but "dense" buildings, with more pollution, crime and less tax payed per inhabitant. And how many people live in a building should somehow be related to how many other buildings are near it and how populated they are. You don't have a skyscraper among simple apartment buildings on the edge of a city. But that's what happens in this game.

I hope they'll release a "Mixed Zone" or "vertical city" pack. Where you can zone Industrial and Commercial "Platforms" that we can build road and other transportation on top of and then zone other zones. For example, build a high way on the ground, then commercial platform block on top of that highway, then ramps that go above the commercial block block where we build regular roads and residential zone. The platform zone are always high density but anything above them can be low or high density.

After watching tons of these videos Im wondering where all the parking is. Does it not take into account parking spaces and lots? Like the industrial and commercial areas should really make you build parking lots for workers and shoppers. Homes can have garages and street parking but the city area should make you take parking into account.

I would like to see a more in-depth simulation of policing, crime and crisis management from a human risks rather than a natural disasters perspective. Intelligence agencies uncovering the organised criminal underground, terrorist plots or hacker groups. Critical infrastructure protection and security management. Swat teams raiding locations. Police car intercept chases. Riots and riot police with crowd control and agent-based modelling. Terrorist attacks and organized crimes (bombs, hijackings, hostage takeovers, robberies). Generally, I think the developers should focus more on creating more complex organisational problems for one to manage. Ideally, I would like a more gritty city simulation experience looking at managing social conflict and insecurity in megacities. It would be awesome to manage various doctrines, policies, equipment, staffing levels and critical infrastructure locations or investing in their structural hardening and watch events unfold at random based on the local self-organising interactions of multiple agents (gangs, groups, state units etc) within a megacity that you manage indirectly through strategic policymaking.

I wish this pack was a bit broader in scope. Like, I wish primary and secondary schools were also part of the equation, and other aspects of education. How about private companies such as tutoring institutes, foreign language institutes? Or other stuff like homeschooling policies? And then a whole thing about how all these different forms of education affect the populace and city.

What's weird about the sims 4, compare it to the sims 3 and you'll see a lot of new features the sims 4 has, were already in the 3rd game before it ended.
The dragging walls and everything staying where it was? The Sims 3 had it too. Granted near the end but still; the sims 4 barely has any big content beyond that strangevile one and usually they'd be into expansion 6-7 by now.
Where the university campus? The holiday location? The superstar studios? Even the sims 1 had more stuff at this point. Did EA just give up on the game? Or are they too busy giving us tiny stuff packs?

However there's a game similar to this but allows you to go into 3 person and drive around your town as the mayor. Not saying they should but it would be crazy if they actually managed to implement that idea. After hours of hard work just open the tab and go to a walk options and walk and drive amongst your citizens. Coding would be intense but could be done

I would love some type of city life update: actual crimes being committed as seen in SimCity 4 and SC 2013, car accidents, etc.
I think a politics or civic update would be interesting as well. All other notable city-building games functioned off of mayoral approval. This game doesn't. It would be interesting to see achievements and advances to how you govern your city. Local politics creates different scenarios, people actually have different mindsets based on where they live. Rallies, protests, demonstrations, etc.

I stopped playing Cities Skylines after the second expansion, as I felt it gotten just to complicated for me. Still seeing your review about this pack specifically, as I happen to love school and school policys, makes me want to play again. • @nerd0Chija
      @nerd0Chija 5 ปีที่แล้ว

This is why expansions exist and still should be. Not as cut into pieces base game (mostly shame on you EA and Ubisoft), but mostly as expansions for existing mechanics or adding new ones if you need more. And they are mostly done for people who wants to have their game more complex and customizable and fitting for those who love micromanagement in city building sims (most of fanbase of this game). If you don't want make your game more complicated, when you can without a problem stay with base game, that mostly it's pretty solid.

Even though it is very derivative of the previous 2 expansions, Campus actually does do one or two things better than those two. One of my biggest complaints with both Parklife and Industries is that legacy parks ploppables and legacy zonable industries weren't really forward-compatible with the respective expansion. It was one of the key points in a video critique I recently made for Skylines expansions:
    th-cam.com/video/_iHJ8amhe9c/w-d-xo.html
You couldn't place legacy park ploppables along paths in Parklife park areas, nor did legacy zonable industry produce or process any resources for the Industries areas. IMO, it basically made those legacy contents obsolete, except in rare edge cases where maybe you needed to place some in a location that wasn't big enough for a full area.
Campus mostly avoids this problem. The university areas take in exchange students, which may prevent local students from attending university. Even if there's plenty of capacity left, I've noticed that many citizens simply don't go to the university. I'm not sure if this is a function of tuition being too high, or the non-attending students being out of the range of the university area's service area, or something else entirely, or some combination. In any case, from my experience with the exp so far, the university areas do not serve all your city's eligible students. This leaves the legacy university ploppables with a very defined and valuable role of acting like "community colleges" that explicitly service local students who can't (or don't want to) attend the bigger university areas.
I just wish that the Match Day soccer stadiums could be converted into varsity sports... :(
