    Boosting the PSX clock likely helps to take care of slow downs that some games may have had on original hardware. Side effect (as you have seen) is that some games may behave oddly since they may be tuned to the hardware setup. Gran Turismo I would expect to be that way.

    Hey dude, I say hey dude because I don't know your name. Anyways, the only thing that stood out in this video is the "Raspberry Pi". Now the reason I say this is because it triggered a childhood memory of mine. The memory is when I was a kid, my dad, twin brother, and myself went out one summer afternoon and picked some raspberries. My dad drove out on a country dirt road and we pulled over on the side of the dirt road and there was all the raspberries that you could pick!!! We picked a bucket full of them and eating some of them too. We then got back into the car and took them home and mama cooked the family a delicious raspberry pie. And you talking about good, the pie was better than good, it was delicious!!! I know this comment is somewhat lengthy, but hey, this video just triggered this good childhood memory of mine. :-) Have a great day dude!! :-) :-)

  • @RetroHellspawn
    @RetroHellspawn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The only example I can think of from my personal experience where CPU clock speed increase is helpful is Silent Hill, because you can get the framerates to go closer to 60fps. However, if memory serves, it also desynced the audio in the cutscenes as the cutscenes were designed for the slow framerate and the visuals went ahead of the audio, so there's pros and cons to using that feature depending on the game. It could also make games just run too fast, like uncapping the framerate on an emulator. I'm not sure if you were right in the physics being wonky in Gran Turismo, but it could definitely cause calculation issues given these games were all designed with the original clock speed in mind.
    Anyway, great video as always! When I get a Pi 4, I may try and get one of these cases because it looks great both in function and fashion! 😁

    • @LGRBlerbs
      @LGRBlerbs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yeah I kind of prefer the screws going in on top!

    • @Charlesb88
      @Charlesb88 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They do make rubber feet that have a hole in the center for a screw, thus the screw holds down the rubber feet and holds the case together at the same time. So you would have the screw go in the underside and hold the rubber feet in place and the case together with the benefit of the screw head being concealed by the rubber feet so all you normally see is the rubber feet when sitting on a desk. Now with this small of a case that would makes the rubber feet appear particularly large for the case size but for those bothered by visible screw heads on top it might be worth it.

    • @devmas
      @devmas 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree... But at least the feet are clear so when you go back to open the case you KNOW the screws are there. I hate taking apart electronics and guessing if the screws are below the feet.

    I have been wanting a Pi for awhile.. I want this. I still miss the Duke voices... That design would be perfect for a 40mm? fan powered by usb. If he put a super thin copper sheet on it it would diffuse heat so much better. Mediums help so much. He can just melt down pennies. lol.
    Still kills me how Gran Turismo has the most cars of any other in the series..
    Boosting the internal clock are for game like FF tactics. It makes expeditions go by faster. It is literally a Clock booster. Since most game on consoles and computers run off the clock for many many things. It can change how games work... A lot. Like how controls work and in-game physics. I used to experiment with this with FF7 for choco boosting. It messed with sooo much stuff it was unreal. Encounters were basically instant since the clock was boosted to 255 instead of 60. So the randomizer was just all wacky. For example.

      Yes! Metal cases do kill wifi and bluetooth. Even a large heatsink can reduced the Pi4 bluetooth broadcast to basically nothing.

    PSX CPU Clock affects the game's frame logic. For some games, it acts as a FPS boost (King's Field 1 and 2 especially). For others, it just goofs things up.

    Not sure why he went for a mirror finish when a sand-blasted one would get a much higher surface area, and thus lower temps. Not to mention that the normal metallic look is pretty gaudy, I'd put that thing in an electrolysis bath for some darker colour, a magenta would work really well.

  • @fattomandeibu
    @fattomandeibu 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The clock speed thing seems like it would be like a turbo button on an old PC. If a game is tied to the CPU speed, as many PSX games are, you'd get all kinda of wonkiness, but for games that aren't, you may get improved performance. I remember using a Mega Drive emulator that did something similar, and would fix slowdown issues in games like Sonic 2.
    The high resolution mode is pretty much making it run like you're playing it on a PS2 or PS3 by upping the screen resolution. I imagine you didn't need that explanation, but yeah.

    You probably won’t notice the benefits of a overclocking unless you were trying to run DreamCast, N64 or Sega Saturn games. There might be a few arcade ROMs that might bog it down, but I can’t think of any off the top of my head.
    The last one of those I set up in a RetroFlag case, with active cooling, I wasn’t able to get Saturn games to run in a playable way-but I did get most of the N64 games to run well enough, and Dreamcast was running beautifully Using the same overclock settings.
    I feel like if I could get the CPU even cooler, I might consider overclocking beyond the warranty numbers, just to see if I could get those Sega Saturn games running like a champ too. Sadly, they won’t even let you install any of the other emulators for PS2 or GameCube-because I’m curious just to see how far off they are from being decent.
