Quick tip Freddie. Put ALL your sleep system and clothes into the waterproof roll top bag. Not your tent. Doesn't matter if the tent gets wet. and if you are packing it away wet you need to keep it away from the dry stuff. Good luck!!
Top tip for wet weather riding Freddie. Hiking gaiters! Cheap and easy to put on and take off. When your waterproof trousers ride up your boot or leg the gaiters protect your boots and lower half of your leg. ☘️
Freddie ....you truly are an inspirational character, when most riders are thinking of putting their bikes away for the season , oh no , not Freddie , he's off out to but a tent and ride through the rain doing the west coast of Scotland 🤷♂️😅 I absolutely love your videos and enthusiasm, I always think one day you'll be snapped up by Top Gear or someone 😅, keep up the good work 👏
Morning Freddie, just returned from a cycling trip from Geneva to Martigny via Chamonix, the roads and twistiest were amazing along with the views, I’m a 67 year old who hasn’t had a motorcycle since the early 80’s, having been watching your and Itchy’s videos, I’m now in the market again. Enjoy Scotland, I cycled there about 10 years ago from Lands end, again superb changing scenery. Steve form Essex
The best thing any rider can invest in in my opinion is a merino wool base layer. Wool is a miracle material, the lanolin naturally in it makes it excellent at comfortably keeping heat. Even if you wind up sweating in it, wool retains its thermal properties unlike synthetics. Merino is so soft it doesn't (for the majority, anyway) irritate at all. Cotton is garbage for under layers.
Freddie, the change of colour would occur even if you used any motor oil. That in itself isn't the measure of the effectiveness of Lanoguard, it is the fact that it stops the advance of the rust completely. It doesn't cure rust or remove it.
@@SiopaoSauc3 another. It arrests the development and spread of rust and lasts years unless it is blasted by pressure washing or water spray from tyres. Lanolin based.
@@chrisharrison3649 Marketing! Well, it all depends on how close you hold the lance really. My little washer I use only occasionally is 110 max and I don't go closer than a foot with it. Ever. They can do more harm than good in the wrong hands.

A good tip I saw on another channel (I think Moto Trek) was to try to use the tools you carry when doing a service. Helps you know it’s all still there and correct.
Freddie, camping is a mind set! Getting away from your day to day. Escape from the routine, enjoy the quiet and piece from the Nature. I am doing it for 30+ years and I love it. Getting old made my wife don’t want to do it with anymore but there is some magic moments when you are camping… just switch off the right button.
Cleaning the bike chain adjustment check and lubricant plus oil and filter! I like this new Freddie ❤ plus adding rust protection spray 😊 way to go Freddie… you show them how it’s done ✔️
I can confirm Lanoguard is a great protective coating for the underside of your Jeep, I have used it on my 1964 Hotchkiss Jeep. Apart from its environmental benefits you don’t have the issues with other products which sting when you get them unintentionally in a cut or strong lasting unpleasant aroma on you , which doesn’t go away quickly. Good choice Freddie.
Seriously impressed, not with you mechanical skills, but you managed to do it in a WHITE T-shirt and i could not see any dirt on it after rolling around on the floor.
Fun content on this one Freddie your face after removing your skid plate is priceless 😂 . Want to add, please, for the love of Mary put that sleeping bag in your dry bag this time 😂, safe travels & look forward to seeing the sites in Scotland, cheers from the U.S.
Hi Freddie Just got back from a 1300ml trip round scotland .Hit the biggest pothole on the Isle of Skye and put a massive dent in rear wheel ,had to hammer it back and use 5 cans of tyre repair to get home. Beware. My 2013 865 performed great though and mainly sunny weather. Good luck..
We've just returned from the west part of the NC. Beautiful scenery, nice people, great adventure but a bit to wet. Don't forget your rain suit! Enjoy the trip,
Hi Fred, I have been using this for over 10 yrs on my 17 yr old Citroen Berlingo and it’s almost perfect underneath. I do it biannually. I buy polythehene to put under the car as it drips everywhere. The mot station are astounded at the condition of my car. I also use the grease and paint brush too. Not used on bikes but is a sound product, don’t think stops rust but makes it last longer for sure. Cold oil change - noooo. Have a good trip
West coast of Scotland for me and 2 friends next week , forecast looks “moist” as for accommodation booked a static caravan for 4 nights less than £200 each , can’t wait
Can't believe you laid on the garage floor in a white tee shirt. My wife would killed me. Bit advice, goto garden centre, and buy a rigid plastic tomato bag tray. Absolutely perfect for placing under rear wheel to catch oil from chain lube clean. Saves making a mess on the garage floor.
This wife wears old ratty clothes to work on her bike. And she knows that nice ringspun cotton Triumph T-shirts cost about $45.00 USD. I won't even risk spilling spaghetti sauce on one, never mind wiping up the garage floor with it.
Another thumbs up for Lanoguard from me. Coated the underneath of my Jimny with it and a year later it still looks brand new underneath. Just note that your vehicle will stink of sheep for the first couple of weeks. Have a great trip Freddie and if you get a chance get over to the Isle of Arran - just back from there myself and the weather was glorious.
Delighted to hear someone happy with Lanoguard (and on a Jimny!🖤). Arran- added to my list for the next Scottish trip. Glad you had a brilliant time and great weather!😃🙌🏻🙌🏻
@Number27 has an 1-year review of the product he used on one of his cars. That was the first time I heard about it. The motorcycle version seems a nice touch
Been using Lanoguard on my Alfa 159 for two years now (they are bad for rotting out subframes and rear suspension arms) , what i like about it is it goes on like water so gets everywhere water would, dries into a nice waxy residue, as someone else mentioned it doesn't cure the rust but it will slow it down which is good enough. I found the spray applicator rubbish, second time i used a cheap plant spray bottle from B&Q, worked ace, not used the tub of moto grease for anything yet.
Morning Freddie. Enjoyed this with an early coffee. Get yourself some overalls or old clothes for maintenance. Best of luck with your trip. I think you'll be up against the weather, but should be fun. Enjoy.
Good to see you back on the road. I love getting the bike ready for a trip. My latest run to save on space I left the sleeping bag and took a bivvi and sleeping bag liner so everything including my tent fitted in my back box 👍
Sounds like a great trip Freddie. Done loads of bike camping in all weathers. Made every mistake in the book. Camping can be absolutely wonderful or completely and utterly miserable. The difference is a few basic skills and some good quality clobber. Cheap sleeping bags have the insulation properties of a plastic bag! Buy a bag rated for 10 degrees below the temperature you expect to experience. Likewise, cheap and nasty tents usually leak and collapse in the wind. Like most things in life you pay for what you get. Freezing your knackers off at 3am in a wet tent is properly over rated. Spend a small bit more and enjoy a comfortable nights Kip.
Yet the start of another road trip Scotland will give you four seasons in the one day! Also get head neck face net as the midge could still be about especially if you camp. I have used the Lanoguard. On most of my vehicles and it’s a super product. Only slight downside is as it dries and or gets hot you smell like sheep for a while after applying! Beware of dogs being more attractive to you! Have a super safe trip and look forward to your next updates! Regards John
Did I miss something? I saw you using Muc Off, but didn’t see you wash the bike (rinse) it and dry it. Good luck with the Scotland adventure, I never get fed up with riding up there.
Love the videos and adventures!! I use Lanoguard on my old MX5 and it's great. The thick stuff in the tub, I use on nuts and bolts etc. For my motorcycles I use ACF-50 which is a little more "refined" and tidy in my opinion.
I'm looking forward to seeing you back in a tent. I recall one of the last trips you did was a little weekend getaway many years ago where you were woken by surrounding horses. It was actually a beautiful trip. That rain was an immediate disappointment, albeit it with a slight bit of laughter as I know that feeling all too well. The unexpected storm.. damn!
A tip ✍🏻 for cleaning the chain with a rag is to roll the wheel so the lower part of the chain goes away from you, if the chain grabs the cloth it will take your hand with it right into the rear sprocket.
Freddie, if you’re camping in Scotland you’ll also need a midge head-net and some repellant OR hope for breezy conditions to keep the blighters at bay.
Most people go north in the summer and south in the winter but not you Freddie you do the opposite. I remember you going to the Dales last winter and would have thought going right up to the top of Scotland in autumn is definitely pushing it, as well. Good luck on the trip, the one saving grace is you won't need the midge spray this time.
Scotland, to keep the cost down I rent a static caravan in a nice park and use it as your base. October is a great time to visit Scotland, no midges, no tourists.
Spent my first 20 years growing up in scotland. Haven't lived there for 35 years ,now living in leafy surrey. Only taken my bike up once and i forgot about the deer and sheep. Keep your eyes peeled freddy. Nice to see the bonny is being looked after now. Bought myself a t100 after a rather bad accident wrote my classic 500 off 5 weeks ago. Didn't think it would be that of a smooth runner. Happy trails freddy, enjoy Scotland.
Freddie: rather than faffing around with chain cleaner and spray why not get a Scottoiler which continually dispenses a small amount of special chain oil as you ride. Prolongs chain life by a huge amount too. Probably best to get Joe to fit it though as it may be beyond your capability!
Good luck on your trip Freddie. I hope you've taken plenty of dry changes of clothing! Nice to see you doing some maintenance on your bike and doing it so easily 🙂
Freddie, your approach to budget is fascinating. The cheapest possible tent and camping gear. All of your clothing and gear seems very expensive, if it's style related. Multiple pairs of boots, jackets, etc. The bike is the love of your life and yet the budget for maintenance of it (prior to Joe) seemed very tight. Then suddenly you're spending 10 times the bike's value on a Jeep. Good to see you taking care of it here. And also having invested in a nice trip to Ireland with Monica!
The Vango is the better tent 👍 plenty of spots to wild pitch throughout the NW coast - been doing it for 20 years; long before the concept of the NC500 was even dreamt of... Looking forward to your report(s) 👍
Good on you Fred for doing the oil change yourself I would only add order that gear in advance . I use busters and they are half the price of Halfords . Just saves money bud . Good luck 👍
Good to see you going back to motorcycling. The jeep might be unique over there. But, it’s nothing special over here in the States. In fact, a lot of us are tired of seeing them on the road…
It has been a long long time you two haven’t done any proper european road trip with car, trail, motorbike and Co.. Lovely to see that in the future, you can consider Andalusia in the future winter, it is exotic beautiful there!
The basics are better than most people out there. Without training or having the skills handed down from a parent/uncle/friend, how could one possibly be expected to do more? Well done Freddie. But for the love of god man, put down some cardboard before lying on the floor like that. Creature comforts!
I find that when I'm in a situation like your's; having to lay on pavement to do work; I get a descent sized piece of cardboard to lay on. Makes a huge difference.
Love the bike maintenance vids Freddie. Cant wait to see your videos on this trip! Dying to see some more of Scotland. Keep up the great videos mate! ☺️
Can’t wait to watch these latest instalments Freddie. Just planning my own trip next year. I had decided too that I only want to do the west coast part of the NC500. 👍
1) Warm the engine before draining the oil. 2) Is the oil level supposed to be checked on or off the centre stand. It makes a difference and changes depending on the bike. 3) Chain and motorcycle manufacturers say to use 80 or 90 weight gear oil to use on chains. Sprays are just grinding paste.
Freddy! Seriously. If your'e thinking of camping out in Scotland. 1) Make sure you buy the best (waterproof) tent as possible. 2) Make sure you buy insect repellent for the midges. Especially if you intend to visit Skye.
I've been doing my MX5 with lanoguard for years, easy and effective, not sure about using it on the bike though as it has a slightly tacky finish. for the car they do a cill probe too
I been using Blit hammer products for rust protection for years I like it better than Lanoguard as it does not dry sticky , which then gets road debris stuck to it , particularly if you ever go somewhere and have to park on grass Been using Blit hammer for 7 years it’s brilliant I don’t work for them I can only recommend something I have used
Did you end up adjusting the chain tension? Would've loved to see that for reference. Great job at cleaning and maintaining the chain and the oil change. Enjoy your trip, may it not be too rainy!
I can fit out my Royal Enfield Interceptor as thoroughly as you do your Bonneville, Freddy; but (1) it would take me twice as long and (2) I could never do that job and end up in a spotless white T-shirt. Yor garage floor must be incredibly clean.
I'm so over riding is shitty weather. Once the Bonne is back on the road after some fettling it's be shorts and flipflops for me . An old video of yours popped up on my feed and the difference between the 'old' and 'new' is remarkable. Be nice if you did a brief "differences I have noticed" clip. Good luck and enjoy .
My gf is in the outer Hebrides this week, camping with her son and apparently the weather is nice but the midges are ferocious in the morning and evening so beware Freddy!
A couple of friends and I went to the NW200 in NI and then around NW Scotland a couple of years ago. Really liked NI, but we didn't have a single dry day anywhere -except, amazingly enough for the actual race days in NI. It's such a shame because they're such lovely countries but the rain and wind ruin them for bike riders.
Quick tip Freddie. Put ALL your sleep system and clothes into the waterproof roll top bag. Not your tent. Doesn't matter if the tent gets wet. and if you are packing it away wet you need to keep it away from the dry stuff. Good luck!!
I’m in awe you managed to do all that in a white t and not get oil all over it.

Hiking gaiters! Cheap and easy to put on and take off. When your waterproof trousers ride up your boot or leg the gaiters protect your boots and lower half of your leg. ☘️

I came up to Glasgow yesterday and the weather was great.
I couldn’t believe how nice Saturday was!☀️
Have a good time, Freddie.
Thank you!
I would love too just load up my bike and go camping. And then stay at a warm hotel!
Especially if you intend to visit Skye.
have a good trip to Scotland Freddie - try the Real Food Cafe at Tyndrum in addition to the usual stop at the Green Welly!
I've been doing my MX5 with lanoguard for years, easy and effective, not sure about using it on the bike though as it has a slightly tacky finish. for the car they do a cill probe too
I been using Blit hammer products for rust protection for years
I like it better than Lanoguard as it does not dry sticky , which then gets road debris stuck to it , particularly if you ever go somewhere and have to park on grass
Been using Blit hammer for 7 years it’s brilliant
I don’t work for them I can only recommend something I have used
14:55 "Where did that bring you? Back to me" ⛺
Did you end up adjusting the chain tension? Would've loved to see that for reference. Great job at cleaning and maintaining the chain and the oil change. Enjoy your trip, may it not be too rainy!
Luckily for me the chain was set correctly. On the Bonneville’s it’s only a five minute job- I’ll make sure to show it next time:)
looking forward to this freddie
Enjoy your trip
Thanks John!
We got absolutely destroyed last night!😆🦟
@@FreddieDobbs The Scot’s standing army lol
You’d be fine if l was there, they always pick on me!
