It was in the anticipated albums of 2014 at 21:14. their critique of Lupe seemed excessive to me at the time because it stemmed more off his antics, label situation or personal views than off his music. so it was annoying to see them kind of discounting him musically because of that but I am glad he's back on track.

Spring - Celebrations in a baby shower.
    They.Resurrect.Over.New - T.R.O.N, a video game that came out during Lupe's birth year (1982).
Adoration of the Magi - He's just another baby at the time adored by The Game.
Madonna - Song for the only mothers raising their babies (Lupe did have a great father figure though).
Deliver - After he grew up a little, he's starting to see the unfairness he's been given.
Chopper - He's starting to see the true dangers of the ghetto and the violence.
Winter - Shit gets real so he's forced to stay inside
No Scratches - He came out unscathed and starts wondering why his people are doing this to each other.
Little Death - as the guns start killing each other, a part of the black communities dies one after another.
Body of Work - Lupe's take on the drug game and the stereotype of his skin color that leads his people downwards.
Prisoner 1 & 2 - Lupe's friends go to jail for drugs (like Chilly Chill) where he's the visitor meeting up with them.
Fall - Lupe makes it rapping and finally sees sunshine up the road ahead
Dots & Lines - Talking about his Deal with Atlantic and how much a disaster it really was.
Blur My Hands - With the death of his deal, he can move on to another world.
Mural - The final boss of the album, a lyrical slaughter that shows Lupe at his full potential with no boundaries
Summer - The future of Lupe as an independent rapper and the freedom he feels.
And there you have it, that is the album in reverse, it's basically a documentary of Lupe's life so far and what's to come.

genius.com/By-harnoor-singh-detailed-explanation-of-tetsuo-and-youth-winter-to-spring-and-beyond-lyrics/ this is my explanation of the album from front to back, it goes over everything from the true meaning of the album to why it won't be respected for up to a 100 years. I specifically went over the story from Winter to Spring because Summer to Winter had more to do with the "backwards/reverse" story. If y'all give this a look, I promise your opinion will change on this album, it really is a masterpiece.

No I'm not a Lupe stan, but I think this album is fucking incredible and one of the most intriguing pieces of art ever. Listening to the album as songs is listening to the story of Lupe as a rapper. Listening to the album fully as a whole piece is the story of Tetsuo, a boy who goes through the hood. Listening to the album in reverse fully is actually a story about Jesus and how Jesus would react to urban culture (similar to how MLK jr is portrayed in Boondocks). Some of his lyrics are very obvious, but others are clever. On Chopper "Cursed to make a half a million for a verse", cmon... how much money is made selling bibles, and how many verses are there. Lupe killed this shit. This is art man.

I figured out more. I'm in love with Dots & Lines. I know everyone loves the straight to the point, metaphoric, spitting rap, more so shown in Mural. But Dots & Lines, is my favorite (right now.) For a number of reasons. He's giving all those folk who love to throw "illuminati" BS into these threads, something to talk about haha. Three Angels in kind. Three ANGLES of the same on all (triangle). And SIGNING your name on the DOTTED LINES. "Don't sign/sine". Don't lose your way "Go straight don't SIGN" (gang sign), keep on a right path. He's speaking of what I mentioned earlier, but it's also MADE to go over our heads haha. Big labels, origins of great art and math, religion (three angel message;book of revelations), along with societal observations, and your typical "don't give in homie" message. All HIDDEN in this song. Fucking.Sick.

I think the Bluegrass opening of Dots & Lines, I believe represents the origins of American music. Dots and Lines, usually used in scared geometric patterns, which occur in nature, predating common/basic mathematical concepts man "discovered". And was used by greats like Davinci, Galaleo, etc. Now country music, blues, etc which America is responsible for creating. And specifically in it's African roots. It's something great that we didn't just take from another country, like we usually do. Dots & Lines/Stars & Stripes?? An origin story, of sorts. Where everything he thinks as great, began. Even the verses back it up.

Myke C-Town yeah man, no prob. At first hearing the opening, I thought he'd go full blown Americana -- judging by the title -- but mid-song found it odd fitting. Then after dissecting the lyrics a bit, and considering Lupe doesn't just throw random shit in his songs w/o meaning (pre Lasers-Lupe, that is), I got it. Album is absolutely amazing.

    • @MrLexanderluther1986
      @MrLexanderluther1986 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

  • @bboyfan22

what playing the album in reverse order does is portray the storyline in a much more linear fashion and it also links all the sonics perfectly. So instead of the monster song Mural starting off the album, you start from his younger days and that leads into his life on the streets, whether or not he himself was a goon or thug or trapper, having seen violence of man and no peace. Thus leading into Fall, where he started seeing the nuances and the pitfalls of that lifestyle and struggling between that and a fulfilling loving and peaceful life. And then finally Summer, where his mindstate was coming up to the release of the album, with Mural combining stories all across his life along with his loves(people, things, places, gestures, etc.) creating this Mural of his life and what's to come.

This year got off to a good start. Joey BadA$$ - B4-DA-$$ and Lupe Fiasco's Tetsuo & Youth. Also J Cole 2014 Forrest Hills Drive( If you count that because it did come out on Dec 9th 2014). Plus Kendrick is releasing a project. Drake is as well and Kanye too. This is finna be a good year for hip hop, and it's gonna be tough in the rap category for best hip hop album in 2016.

+kooleyBear im a massive lupe fan, the cool is my number 1 album of all time, this made me flip out 20 times over. but lasers? it has moments, but that's it. overall dumbed down, sure atlantic forced some songs. but most lupe fans hated the album cuz we saw WHY they werent wanted. absolute trashy hooks over "Outta My Head" or whatever the fk it was called, over "I Dont Wanna Care Right Now", "State Run Radio", and that absolute garbage "Break the Chain". Funny those titles seemed to reflect how he and certain fans felt... Other songs just had too much try hard editing/effects to make em radio friendly, like Beautiful Lasers which was a truly great song except for all the crap noise that was added into the beat. And the good message songs were also dumbed down, like till i get there which i rlly liked and was feel good, as well as never forget you which i love. then all black everything was the only saving grace along with that riff in Letting Go, and the rest was ok just too poppy

This is a tough album to review near release. I'd bet it goes down as one of the top 5 most complex albums of all time. I like my music to have depth and meaning and I still didn't get most of what he was saying when it first came out. I stuck with a few songs and put the album down for a while and came back to it later and listened to it with a fresher ear and everything clicked.
My only criticism is there's parts with musical interludes that could've been filled with some dope singing and/or poignant poetic type lyrics that helped put the songs and album as a whole in context to drive the point home. With a few spots like that, the album could've gone to another level and gotten more widespread recognition. Incredible album, a classic imo. But just a few missed opportunities could've taken it a bit higher and made it undeniably great.

I agree that Lupe should stay in a major record label, him going indie just isn't right imo because we do need more artists like him on the radio, he's paved the way for rappers like J Cole, Wale, Drake and Kendrick to be accepted in the mainstream when everybody wanted to listen to gangster rap and snap music back then, so I'll see it as him taking a step back.
Now with the album, I love it, No Scratches is probably the only song on it that I'm not feeling because of the production but overall the album is music to my ears, I will be listening to this years after it came out, can't really say that about Lasers and a few songs on Food And Liquor 2 and the reason why is because Lupe has finally went back to one of the things that made him great.....his production.
Lasers production was bad and it wasn't him to blame, Friend Of The People was kinda iffy and Food And Liquor 2 was better but it still didn't feel right but this album's production aside from No Scratches was what made me a fan of Lupe in the first place on top of his lyrics, if Lasers and Food And Liquor 2 had production like this then I don't think niggas would be saying Lupe fell off, he needs to stay with whoever produced this album, Soundtrakk and make up with Prolyfic and stick to those guys because Lupe is at his best when they produce for him.
9.5/10, will be considered a classic 3 to 4 years from now.

Harnoor Singh From what i have heard so far he is referencing a lot of anime and video games throughout his music. Tron he kind of sets up the video game arcade, in Adoration he uses a video game to tell a story so that is one of the songs meanings, and even last year he released Mazinger which is an anime and he was being slick making references to his song Daydreamin. I think for Mural he really wanted to touch on everything that he likes and those are some of the things he loves a lot.

kooleyBear true, I know Lupe loves anime that's where the album name comes from (Tetsuo from Akira) and he's also referenced Lupe in the 3rd, Gundam, DBZ, and many others from his past so yeah I def caught a lot of that Mural. That song is bananas!

Harnoor Singh Isn't it? And what is crazy is I heard that he already has his next three albums figured out. I am hoping it will be LUPE.N.D. and i hope it comes out the way he planned it to be when he was trying to get it released after the Cool. I would love for him to get back into that story.

    This album was dope.
After first when I listened to it I liked a majority of the album, but I felt like some was going over my head. The more I listened to it the the more I picked up on a lot of things that makes this album so great. Only songs I didn't like were, "Little Death" and "No Scratches". Not to say those are bad songs they just didn't resonate with me that well. Overall, Lupe delivered on all fronts. I loved it.
