I made my Kingdom Key out of a PVC pipe, reinforced styrofoam, some chain link from Halloween decorations, a Mickey Head I cut out of a CD case and some things from a pipe connecter or something like that. It isn't great, I forgot to put primer before I actually applied the spray paint, you can see where I hot glued and the painting doesn't look the best, but I made it by hand, so what do you expect for a first time prop builder.
I have one made of metal, but metal is hard to work with in thick chunks, so the teeth and handguard are even thinner. Making a fully metal Keyblade also increases the overall weight, which is ok if you just want a mounted piece, but I think most people use these for cosplay, and no one wants to carry a giant heavy key around a convention all day
Well from a year of historical swordfighting, if you have a weapon with a guard like a keyblade, where it doesn't only cover your hand on the knuckle side, but also the wrist side of the hand, having a thicker guard would only cause problems with aligning the sharp edge to the target. For keychains like kingdom key where there is no edge it does not really matter, but for things like two become one, it won't offer you a very good cut. Hell, even a thin guard already has this effect, but making it thicker would only make it worse.
Have you seen "Man At Arms"? They made a metal Keyblade that is fully functional and can do some serious damage! There's also Skallagrim who critiqued how the Kingdom Key wouldn't work too well as a real weapon. He showed a design that would be more practical.
Don't have a Keyblade, but I have a replica of another ridiculous weapon (love em both). I have Squall's Gunblade at my parents house. Not sure if I'll have it shipped to where to me in college or I might end up giving it away, but I'd like to keep it around for as long as I can.
I've wanted a keyblade ever since I was a little kid and last year I finally got one around Christmas. I was pretty happy with it even though the whole thing was made of wood. It was also bought on EBay.
I really want Oblivion, but I can never find a good replica of it. The best one I found was last week, and it was completely black with Oblivion's details drawn on in white, and the shaft was cylindrical. The proportions were also wrong. It looked more like the Keyblade of People's Hearts with Oblivion's textures drawn on it. But it looked better than the silver one I found XD
Mine looks the same, except it's made of metal. The chain links were small and long as all hell(1 1/2 the size of the sword), and the handle spun on it's access, but I like it. A real metal one is heavier than you'd expect, really.
Ive got a Keyblade, and its made of wood, although the Keychains made of metal, and Id say its pretty good, although the teeth arnt at the very end of the thing so it looks like an actual key when held with the teeth facing downwards
I got knock off Oblivion keyblade for Christmas I had the chain shortened but then a few days later it went up inside the key. Because I like wearing the black crown on a necklace
I got a heavy metal (Not the music genre) KingdomKey for my birthday about 7 or so years back (I was 14 I believe.) and its pretty awesome. I wasn't able to handle it very well and eventually broke it in half hitting a tree (Tree heartless! LOL); the threads stripped where the "blade" attached to the handle. my dad welded it back together and for the last 7 years, its just been sitting around. it now resides on my wall on a rack my dad made for it years ago where it should have stayed at all times. LOL P.S. Also came from Ebay.
I have one that one of my friends made for me out of PVC. It's over 5 years old now so it's falling apart but it still looks good since I did some touch up work on it for D23 anaheim. I'm considering getting a metal one myself though.
I got a keyblade made out of full 61-50 steel with an awesome paint job and everything for $40 at comic con last year. It seemed too good to be true and to make sure is was real 61-50 steel (which is pretty good material) I went to my friend who is a blacksmith apprentice and it turned out to be real. He sharpened the teeth (just cause) and it is now a very viable weapon for me lol
When I was a kid, I made a keyblade out of curtain rods and black electrical tape. It was pretty cool, I tried to replicate Ansem-Rikus dark keyblade in Kingdom Hearts 1. My friends laughed at me! Worth it! :-)
I know, that also happen to me when I was a kid, having a Keyblade is my biggest desire and I created from cardboard and boy it turns out horrible, I tried to get one from the Anime Expo, a metal one but it doesn't look accurate to the video games until, in the Super Toy Con, I got a very game-accurate Keyblade for only $30 bucks. I'm so glad that I got my own and planned to find and buy more Keyblades (video game-accurate) to display my collections. Overall, glad you got your own Keyblade. P.S. - Got to Estay, you'll find more Keyblades there than Ebay.
Mine is all wood and it's really close to the games I even went to the hardware store for a more game accurate and light wait chain I got a wood one so that it was easy to add different elements to it and easier to repaint as I do like to play with it sometimes lol

I actually do have a keyblade of my own, and this Halloween, I went as Roxas (when he had the Kingdom Key, like in 358/2 days, not the Obliv/Keeper Duo that he had in KH2). I think Cynical got screwed on his keyblade. The teeth proportion to the rest of the key is off by a lot. I can make a quick video showing off my keyblade (which was a gift to me at Christmas, not sure where from) that is more or less appropriate in proportion.
I do have a keyblade as well, and it is medal though the key chain color is wrong for mine but thats the only minor thing. It is metal so I can't like use it to swing it around, its ment to look at but still its a cool looking keyblade that I got.
I also have a keyboard, I got it from Amazon and the only differences between mine and yours are the keychain on mine is white and flat and the hilt is black instead of blue. If only it was metal.

I thought about buying the same Keyblade, but because it is so expensive, I (or more my father ;) ) made one by myself. It's out of wood and not finished yet, I still need the Keychain and as of right now, it is just in Silver. So I still need to colour it. BUT(T) Im very glad that I made one bc the thickness and all that stuff, like u mentioned, is better.
I know this video is months old, but maybe this will make you feel better . . . Considering the kingdom keys hilt in the game is almost as wide as Sora's arm, if yours was that big it would cause two issues: 1) The weight would be completely imbalanced considering just how thick the hilt really is. 2) You wouldn't be able to hold it very well at all. My biggest problem with the keyblades is that their hilt's "guard" circles ALL THE WAY AROUND coming to that circle or square shape around it, in real life sword fighting this would be a major issue. Essentially, when you're holding it, you can't hold it completely straight because part of the guard is blocking your wrist from aligning with the blade. While there are also other issues with this design, I'll just mention that for now. Essentially, the thicker your keyblades guard, the worse of a position your wrist would be in while holding it. The thinner guard, while maybe not realistic to the games blade, allows you to hold it a little better than had it been thicker. It's a good design choice.

I have 5 keyblades... I got 3 customs, oath keeper and oblivion. Sadly I can't bring them to convention as they are metal and battle ready. I cut my hand on oath keeper when I got it.
It looks way better than any metal one ive ever seen, they're all small and thin and not good looking at all! i made my own kingdom key out of wood and hot glue to go with my new KH3 Sora cosplay. The hilt is thick but the key part is thin... But I still think its good for homemade
yep,i bought one two years ago, its metal and I love it! however i cant take it to any conventions which sucks and I'm not going to buy another one as they're so expensive. but its rad to have one in my room as a legit weapon if anyone breaks in haha

I have a full size metal kingdom key with metal chain though the hilt and teeth are thin and It's really heavy but looks amazing even blue center is rightly detailed I got it off of ebay probably about holy crap 10 years ago! it would be nice to have something easy to carry around though
The kingdom key I got was from Comic Con when I went there during the summer holiday it was expensive however costing around £60. But totally worth it.
I just got a keyblade at Comic Con yesterday. Cost about $150 but the blade and chain was metal (steel), the handle was a high quality rubber and the hilt was also a metal (don't think it's steel though), so it was a great buy.
i had an actual katana maker to make a keyblade for me back then and he's happy to made it since the maker is also a fan of kingdom hearts and i got a sleeping lion keyblade

Im glad you made a vid! I have been eyeballing that same pvc keyblade and im glad i didnt get. I dont like it. I think they could of done better! And im happy for you, that you finally got one! it's definitely not easy finding good realistic keyblades, but I have my own. i have the Riku's key and It's decent. i also have Oblivion.
I do have a keyblade, in fact I used it for my Halloween costume..... I was an organization 13 member and I planning to do a parody of Sora vs roxas with my big bro near Christmas time

I like the idea of keyblade necklaces they sell on eBay, but I dunno about an actual keyblade. Maybe one day I'll get one if my desire to cosplay gets greater XD
