IISC provides the best research environment and resources like flexibility in choosing elective courses (A very wide range of courses is offered which students can choose based on their research area and interest) and cutting edge research labs. They have research based Mtech programs (other than regular course based Mtech programs) , where students get the opportunity to do serious research and get their work published in prestigious peer reviewed journals. Choice is yours.
Well, to get an admit for a PhD program in MIT or IVYs or other top global universities like Stanford or UC Berkley, your SOP (statement of purpose) should be very strong and you should have a very good research background as well. Also, a masters degree is not mandatory to do PhD in the US nowadays. There are many students from India, that too non iitians, who are doing PhD in top universities in the US like Purdue, UC Santa Cruz and a lot more right after their undergrad. GRE is optional for PhD in the US (barring some universities) nowadays. Also your research work and projects should match the ones which the professors of the particualar university's department are currently doing. Only then you will get a PhD admit. It's difficult for iitians to get admits from top universities as well.
Getting into ivy league US colleges is next to impossible for pure science students for PHD. One student from IIT Delhi math and computing dual degree, topper of his batch, GGPA- 9.96, LOR from 2 professors of IIT delhi and one from professor of TIFR Yallanka, great SOP, no publication because you dont have enough knowledge to independently publish anything in reputed journals specially in math. GRE MATH score 970/990. He did not get admission in ivy league in USA. He is now doing math PHD in UCI USA.
Regarding publishing paper during M.Tech, one major problem is timing. The M.Tech project is in the second year. By the time you make your research work, collect data, write the manuscript and get it published, it is usually at the end of the second year, if not even later. That is too late for the PhD applications, which typically happen in the third semester.
How much CGPA required for BS-MS research graduate for top foreign universities and will it be possible to score that much under rigorous course structure of IISc?
Which is more better for research? IIT or IISER? Students of which of thses two institutes are more likely to get a foreign phd? If the answer is IISER then how? I mean IISER are now in a developing stage don't have any strong background, but IITs being a more reputed excel in research after IISc. Like for IITM/IITB excel in research after IISc.
In research, guide matters the most. A good guide in any below tier college is better than average researcher at good IITs. So its not easy to say that some institution is better than other. It all depends on which area under whom you are working on.
@@kishalaydas Oh you are saying that in research good professor always matters the most irrespective of the institution? But the thing is that most good professors will always be at the best institutes.😔
Sir, if suppose got a fully funded scholarship for phd in us , for initial expenses should be managed like for first 1 month by us or from day we get admitted in-person we will get stipend
Sir I have lot of queries for you 1 How difficult is iisc csa coursework for an average student 2 Does iisc ask the student to discontinue the program if he has less cgpa 3 how many students from ur branch got selected in top us colleges for phd
1. Its difficult, initially a lot. But gradually most of the students cope up with the pressure. And 60-70% of all students are average only. Hard work is important. 2. Yes, if you get less than 3 (Fail is 4) they cant continue. But I have seen one such cases in last 6 years. Its very hard to fail in any subject at iisc. If you study the least, you might get 5 and pass. If you fail means neither you are understanding anything nor you are ready to work to get some grade. 3. My batch -1
since you have said iisc is not that good when research in AI and ml is concerned, so is there any other institute which you can suggest in india which is better than iisc specially fro ai and ml or deep learning reserach!
I didn't say iisc is not good, compared to iitb, iitd and to some extent Iitkgp also, iisc is lagging a bit in ML research, especially fields like NLP.
Hi kishlay since you have cleared my doubts yesterday about income criteria for getting a doctorate from reputed foreign university I want to add one more query since you had already applied for those universities that do we need to pay those colleges tution and other academic fees and if yes than approximately how much for those US universities like Harvard,Stanford Caltech or mit and do we have the opportunity to earn while pursuing our doctorate degree because I have heard PhD is also like a regular job there unlike in india
I am not so sure, as i had never took admission in usa colleges. But what i heard from my friends, most of the College used to pay scholarship for PhD. And that's sufficient.
Hey bayya! I'm a btech student and i have this question....after my btech ...Is it better to crack GATE and go to IISC and get placed in a good company or Is it better to work in startups for 2-3 yrs and crack a good product based company ... Which option is better I'm getting confused between them a lot ... Each one have its own perks... Which one do you think is better ? I'm from a 3rd tier college...
If you are willing to go for higher studies and gain more knowledge than what you have gained in Btech, join Mtech. Otherwise, if you just want to have a high paid job, no need of mtech, join any good job and switch to better companies

Yes, thats true. Thats why students mostly apply in the cycle after his/her Mtech is over. By then they might have a paper.
Thanks for telling the truth🙂

Try to get CGPA 9+ if you want to go to top foreign universities. It will be tough, but possible
