That's a miserable parking lot and very crowded, but Waymo handled it as well as a human would.

    That is so cool.
The vehicle handled it very well, as it was, it didn't need any help but as a precaution called for assistance anyway. It was just a busy parking lot, but could just as easily have been a grid lock situation where the remote human assistance would have been welcome.
It is Waymo's "complete solution" approach that is so impressive. If things are not moving, don't wait around and call for assistance, in this case the "problem" cleared almost straight away and so it was able to carry on.
Interesting though as to whether it is programmed to be courteous? There was a car backing out of a parking space, ideally, it would have see the vehicle was trying to reverse, and so stop short to allow the reversing car more space to swing round. Instead the Waymo advances, but then stops when it couldn't pass, but by advancing it did make it more difficult for the car to get out of the space. It all worked out fine, but had the Waymo gone a little further, the car may not have been able to get out, and another car could have then come from behind and blocked the Waymo from reversing. Hanging back a bit would have avoided any problems.

How can you be sure the remote driver isnt taking over when they see your video mount for recording through the interior cameras? Thanks for the videos!

would it have made sense to end the trip once you were at the shopping center and stuck in traffic, if you were paying for the trip? because I believe you have to pay for all the time of your trip?

I have done this in San Francisco to save time when the car gets stuck. But not related to saving money because the price is set when you request the car.

@@KevinChen5 It was my impression that the price can vary based on how long it actually takes to get to a destination and the distance traveled. can you tell me more about why you think the price is set rather than just an estimate at the beginning of a ride?

It’s rumoured that similar systems in china are being targeted by teenagers using a laser pointer when the vehicle comes to a halt. Should be ok if you have lidar but pure camera systems might struggle?
