  • Let's explore the first and oldest church in Valletta, The Our Lady of Victory Church/Knisja tal-Vittorja formerly known as the Saint Anthony the Abbot Church, was the first church and building completed in Valletta, Malta. In 1566, following the Great Siege of Malta, Grand Master Jean Parisot de Valette and his Order showed interest to build a church in the name of the Nativity of the Virgin as a form of thanksgiving; the construction was funded by De Valette.

Steve, you have done it again... showing us a beautiful church,
that is full of history and fantastic painted ceilings.
We have been inside a couple of years ago, but nice to see again.
No wonder it is forbidden to go on the roof, danger waiting to happen with no edging. Knowing what you are like for tripping up, my heart was in my mouth 😃.🙈
But lovely views all across the beautiful land. Good job you worked your magic as usual by persuading that very nice man to allow you permission.
    Thanks to him and you
. Stay safe Steve, appreciate your hard efforts in keeping entertained. 👍👍

I got married there in 1965. My grand daughter will be marrying there too in 9 months time. By the way , we got married on the 28 March , on which day we celebrate Valletta Day, when La Vallette put the first foundation stone for the new city after the1565 Siege

Hi Steve, like many others I past by so many churches and so many times too but not gone inside them when I lived there, we took it for granted unless it was at Festa time, BUT now every time I visit Malta I go inside which ever town or village I go to, this particular one on this video I visited while they where in the middle of restoration a few years ago, anyway you done a great job the intro, commenting and other editing so thanks once again for your effort, bye.

I actually did make the move but returned as the process of uglification in both Malta and Gozo is rampant and unstoppable. I also tired of all the cars and pollution. Valletta remains a rare beauty. The journey made me appreciate where I came from. The grass is not always greener. Steve's videos are a joy but for a balanced picture of the country be sure to check out Ugly Malta on FB.
