Program Notes:
Fanfare was written for an exceptional group of high schoolers from the Cincinnati metropolitan area, and I decided to test their playability with a very difficult piece full of virtuosic playing. This group did not disappoint at all, as they passed this test with flying colors.
Fanfare is a quick and flashy composition full of excitement and triumph, meant as a celebration of not only these students’ achievements, but also a celebration of the future of the professional classical music scene in Cincinnati as a whole. This piece is full of colorful harmonies, interesting soundscapes, and fun and playful brass playing that will keep the audience on their toes.
As a final note, I hope the best for the nine wonderful and talented brass players that I got to work with. You all will go far in whatever careers or activities you decide to partake in, because if you all are excelling as well as you are now, there’s a lot in store for you all in the future. Thank you, and keep making beautiful music.

Thank you! I take a lot of inspiration from Ligeti so I really like writing soundscapes like that where its a bunch of moving parts that create just a wash of sound
