ARTFX, You are one of the best DNB teachers on TH-cam, you always give us the most detailed knowledge in various ways, I would like to express my most sincere thanks to you!
For anyone that's not using Ableton, a good substitute for Ableton Saturator is GSat+. It's a free plugin that gives you lots of control and can achieve a very similar sound!
4:11. Apparently the speaker's driver has a harder time "pulling" than "pushing". Thus from a resting position of "silence" when playing short, fast transient sounds it makes sense to have the first half of the waveform positive. It will sound (ever so slightly) punchier. The DB meter will show the exact same reading, of course, it's the same waveform. Not only that, this is only hearable for the first cycles of the waveform. The easiest to test this is with psy trance basslines or kicks. I don't think it works with planar headphones, but for the other dynamic drivers I know this applies.
Nice one ArtFX! Clear insights an one myth is busted now..... Just do more of these shorter Sound design vids. They are so helpful. And You do a great job at it.
This is such a good video. The great thing is you can keep adding lfos to the coarse pitch and keep tightening the speed and the shape to get that extra click, or play with the noise source to adjust the dynamic to suit the track. Looking forward to seeing the snare drum synthesis video!! 💪🏼
Great tutorial! can't wait for the snare tutorial. Is the stereo imaging in the bottom right stock with Ableton 11? same with the audio readout in the top right
@@artfxdnb How exactly? Care to explain? Is it possible to find Wavecandy as a VST somewhere? And how you go about making it integrate with Ableton Live like you have? Thanks!
Great video ARTFX!!! Was wondering though, how do you have that oscilloscope running up in the top right corner like on/in the Ableton skin? thanks so much!!!
Great video, really appreciate it - My kick isn't hitting the note it's played at though! It's hitting Bb when I put my hit at F :/ I've checked all the processing and nothing is affecting it!
Ok (sorry for the torrent of questions!) - it feels like Serum is playing an octave up. The fundamental on an was hitting at the 3rd octave. If I drop the serum osc by an octave it hits where I might expect and the correct note. Weird.
ok so question for anyone who might know: everything is fine until i try to add distortion fx, but for some reason the mix knob will not swap functions to level? what is going on with that?
why does my kick sound like a laser gun when i make it unipolar at 09:19? if i make it bipolar it sounds like yours. i don't get it. edit: nevermind i was at E2 instead of E0 lol

Ahw thanks, that means a lot!
Agreed 👍
I've only watched a couple of his vids, but so far I'd have to agree. Really appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
so impressive to watch someone who actually understands how synths work haha
Haha and now you can understand it too!
@@artfxdnb 🤣👌
Man. I love this series. I'm dreaming one day you'll do one for pigments.

hands down best kick tutorial i've watched in my 8 years of producing. Thank you!
Damn this is good. Can't wait for a snare one
This is easily the best video on this topic on TH-cam!
Thanks a lot for that!
@@artfxdnb Can't wait for the other ones! I got a feeling the snare video will be extra spicy :D
this channel is so underrated, please do more of these tutorials
I will, already have the next one in the series scheduled (and up on Patreon 😇) and starting on episode 3 this week!
@@artfxdnb really considering signing up on your patreon
This is the best video about kick sound design! thx!!
Thank you for this amazing video!
Really great walkthrough! Thanks 🌻

thanks again. this and the snare tutorial is amazing! such a nice patch! have so mutch control now! super nice explanation!
Woops, missed this one

Its amazing how one plugin can do almost everything for DnB 😆
Hey, tanx!!! Reallly great!
Big ups man, fantastic video!
This was awesome 👌
My synthesis guru!)
This is exactly what I needed 🙌🏻
This video is amazing
Art, you are a legend!
good stuff my dude
Great tutorial!
Thank you very much for such detailed tutorial! Cheers
This was really insightfull. I would love to see how you tackle the other drums as well! Meanwhile I'm gonna look around your channel some more.
Amazing!
Thanks!

holy crap man, thank you!!
Wow thank you soooo much
love that AM trick for the noise yo! Gonna have to play around with shaping the lfo on the noise for noise basses as well
Oh yeah this would work on noise basses as well, good tip!
this one is best on the whole youtube. now its time to make a tutorial about processing the kick?
Thanks a lot! Very interesting with synths instead of samples. And I just bought a serum license recently)
Great tutorial! can't wait for the snare tutorial. Is the stereo imaging in the bottom right stock with Ableton 11? same with the audio readout in the top right
No it's done with Image-Line Wavecandy

what happens when sub changes note/pitch? do we loose kick and sub alignment? and how to deal with these changes? Thank you
how do u get that spectrum in the corner?
Great video ARTFX!!! Was wondering though, how do you have that oscilloscope running up in the top right corner like on/in the Ableton skin? thanks so much!!!
Gg artfx^^
What is the name of that plugin thing on the bottom right that displays your stereo?
How to get this serum skin?
Great video, really appreciate it - My kick isn't hitting the note it's played at though! It's hitting Bb when I put my hit at F :/ I've checked all the processing and nothing is affecting it!
So it seems to be the pitch modulation adjusting the point the fundamental hits on an eq. Is the kick still at F then?

What software do you use?
ok so question for anyone who might know: everything is fine until i try to add distortion fx, but for some reason the mix knob will not swap functions to level? what is going on with that?
You need to click on the label of the knob, if that doesn't work, maybe you need to update Serum.
❤
Yo deep dive into snares next then sik
why does my kick sound like a laser gun when i make it unipolar at 09:19? if i make it bipolar it sounds like yours. i don't get it. edit: nevermind i was at E2 instead of E0 lol
Okay you found it haha, I was going to say play a lower note. Cheers!
Snares in serum ?
Snares video is currently on my Patreon, will be on the channel later.
