In this video I will be talking about all of the different design issues you will need to figure out before you start drawing your vpin cabinet plans. I will also teach the basic skills you will need to know to be able to draw your own cabinet and how to create a cut plan for a full sheet of plywood so you can minimize the amount of waste you will have. After this video you will be able to design and draft up your own custom virtual pinball cabinet and have your plans to start cutting up your plywood, how cool is that?

Considering building a VP unit myself and after watching the entire series, I can say Id be comfortable tackling the project. This is the most complete and comprehensive series I have found out there. @@wayofthewrench Absolutely! The best part about this "from ground zero approach" is that everyone is going to pick their own starting point for each section of the build. If someone is not the best at cabinetry, they might buy a kit and start there. Some will do their own computer upgrades and make it there own. The important thing is that no matter how far back they start in the process, this series has them covered. And just as important is now only WHAT to do, but they WHY they are doing it and also the TEST procedure before moving on. The breath of knowledge across all the areas of the build is impressive.
Appreciate it that you have noticed all of the hard work I put in to this series as I really wanted it to be my contribution to the vpin community and help people out there. It is really a special hobby and I wish I knew about it earlier. Cheers!
Thank you very much for this video. I've managed to draw me a custom cabinet for a 40" Playfield, a Pixelcade RealDMD, a 24"NEC monitor for the backglass and a 14,9" Topper from VSDisplay. Made a sawplan and before I can start to saw the parts I have to make me a foldable workbench tomorrow because the wife doesn't want me to use the kitchentable ;-). That's not too difficult according to the woodshop. We'll see 🙂

Dude I use the heck out of 3d printed parts for my builds. I designed several parts for different thicknesses of wood to make a four point solid square base, I made the brackets aesthetically pleasing so they're used as bracketing and look cool

I used a Scorpion wide body that was 27 inches wide. I used standard monitors off the shelf and kept it to only 1 monitor for the back box which I centered and then put 4 speakers to even it out and add that extra bit of sound. I sprung up for an i7 Geforce machine so it would run smooth. Then spent the extra on buttons, and shooters, and nudge and shakers and other tables like PFx3 and Arcooda and one off tables.
Nice Bruh! I play tested my monitors for like 8 months and did a 2 monitor setup like yours. The best thing about a 2 monitor setup is that the speakers can be customized per game. You still have your vpin cab?

I can't find the angle dimension for the cabinet side. Huge application request.
Thanks! Hopefully it motivates you to make a vpin for yourself. If the angle isn't there, you'll have to break out your grade 9 trigonometry. It's actually easier to just measure out the corner than measure out the angle. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
The calculations are simple for me. Unfortunately, not all dimensions are available and I estimate.
a=51.5 b=23.5-15.75+~1= 8.75
so β=~9.75. But this is only an approximation.@@wayofthewrench
Everything you need is there, you just have to subtract from overall length or width etc. cheers!

@27:50 "I want to stress this is not going to be an hour and half video ... " :-) forgot about that one uh? Great job covering all the bases. Joinery is a real issue when it comes to wood working and you cover the issues of glue starving a joint very well.
One thing everyone needs to remember, You can do anything with your hands. If a fancy tool is used to make something, there is always some way to accomplish the same thing. Remember what is inside of "I Can't" its "I Can". Do not let the use of power tools turn you off. if all you have is hand tools, you can make this project happen. It requires commitment and resolve.
Lol...I left that in there to see how fast someone would call me on it! It could have been way less if I didn't explain the design process but I felt it was important to help people design their own. Yeah you definitely can make these projects with hand tools or power tools or fancy big equipment....just use what you have. The bigger equipment just makes stuff more accurate and faster. Cheers!

I really like your VPin videos, noone does it better. I just found out about VPins a week ago and and already ordered the first part for my own VPin, a sony 43" 4K 120hz TV.
I just dont like the way you installed the tv into the cabinet. Your tv is at the Top 4-6 inches deeper than at the Bottom.
That might increase the 3D effect for some ppl, but for me it is kinda irritating. Never mind. It's a question of taste i guess.
I will follow your videos very carefully but change that part and align the TV screen evenly to the cabinet inclination.

I went with the lowered look because I wanted a led matrix at the back. I absolutely love the look of mine and wouldn't change it at all. It's hard to tell in videos but it truly looks awesome. Wow, I have been on the fence for about 2 weeks as to build a pin cab or buy one. I must say, for a 'wrench slinger' and a welder, your meticulous nature and attention to detail has paid off. Can't wait to see the next installment! Oh, yeah... because of your step by step instructions, I'm going to build it. Just one question for now - your pin cab plans have been converted to pdf format, but some of the pages are cut off (overlap?) I guess when you saved it from Sketchup. I have Sketchup and was wondering if you would be so kind as to share the original skp file? Lastly, do you have a method by which I could donate to the "cause"? Thanks again.
Lol, thanks. I'm actually a Tool & Die Machinist who got tired of making money and now I'm a teacher. Glad to hear you have decided to make your cabinet! You'll have lots of fun and look back at your build with a sense of pride. The pdf of the dimensions does have all of the dimensions but yes they are a bit weird to sift through. As much as I would like to share the.skf file, there are people out there ( often with youtube channels) that just wanna use my work and call it their own, which is totally against my channel's nature.....its for learning how to diy. So at this time, it is not available.

I'm trying to but I'm running into some problems Finding A PCMainly a graphic cardI do got something kind of builtTo let me know That this is what I want I got the at games legends proWith the pinball set up with my TV set in sidewaysBut as soon as I find that graphic card no hold me back I've been watching videos for a good year now
Ya know what I did was just search on Facebook marketplace/Craigslist and put out on your social media if anyone has a old computer or video card that they could donate to your project. I ended up getting 2 computer and three video cards for free. I ended up making 2 fully working vpin cab pcs that can totally run vpx and future pinball. I only had to spend $50 dollars each for brand new 500G ssd drives. Good luck!

Love your videos. I don't have much resource to tools, is there anything you recommend maybe prefab? or kits for the wooden aspects of the entire cabinet build? I did watch your video for ordering parts which I'll definitely use for reference. Appreciate all the hard work and info. I almost wanted to buy a machine already pre built but I'd like to at least setup software, assemble parts and etc, just the wood working is far out of my expertise.
Ya know Gino, I'm gonna recommend you find a local maker space or a friend with tools to help with this project. I really don't recommend buying a premade cabinet but there are a few out there. I can't say which are good or not.

So how is it that we take into account the 40-50 relays, score motor and the 700 reed switches into the cabinet? lol. I mean thats important, and its not a pinball machine without them.
Seriously tho. I would love to make a virtual pinball machine in a full sized box, primarily;y because I really would mount a whole bunch of relays, motors, thumpers and chimes, they would not actually control the game, but if for no other reason than they make background noise, Then have them controlled by the virtual game software. I would feel better knowing they are there.
If you keep watching, you'll see how I add all of the ssf and mechanical toys to simulate all of the real pinball parts. It's pretty crazy how much the ssf makes it sound and feel real. Thanks for the watch!
Awesome channel, just subscribed. I am considering buying a virtual pinball machine and your videos contain a wealth of information about the key features in building a top quality machine. I have not yet watched all of your videos about creating a virtual machine but by chance have you made one that walks a person through the key aspects of what a person should look for when buying a virtual pinball machine. There are a multitude of virtual pinball machine builders and it is challenging for a buyer to discern which builders make top quality machines vice the those making lower quality machines. Do you have any recommendations. I couldn’t see if you are building and selling machines yourself. Thank you.

Now as for a review of vpin builders or sellers, I won't be doing that anytime soon as this series is to help people make their own from scratch. I would highly suggest that you build your own and for much less than it would be to buy. Plus you get to learn new skills, be proud of your creation, and you get to customize it just how you like it. You would be really interested in my next video as it will show you everything you need to layout, cut, drill, and assemble your vpin cab. Look for it soon and then you can decide whether or not this is something you can do your self. You can do it! Great work! I am just a little confused. I tought u take the Buttons from the virtuapin bundle (the rectangular ones) - why u didnt take them? Where did you get the round buttons from?
I didn't like the look of the rectangular buttons so I used some round chrome buttons I liked from a previous arcade build. The link to them is in the video description. Thanks for the watch!

Hello, wonderfull that you made this video. I have a question though. Why is it that the play-field monitor is always horizontal and not more angled like the glas ? I do not understand why and am very much inclined not to place it horizontal. There must obviously be a reason as everbody does it, but I failed to see why and also think it does not look good. Could you please explain ?

Thanks, glad you liked the video. I can't say why others position their monitors but I am placing mine at a lower angle than the glass so it looks more like an original pinball. Original pinball play fields are set down from the glass. I think that if you place the monitor right at the glass, they look a bit fake or more like a video game. My only concern is if there will be issues with glare/reflections from the play field monitor or the LED lighting that I'm going to place by the sides and at the back. I'll just have to wait and see once I get it installed and glass in. Cheers!

Perfect! Happy to help people out with their builds. Sorry but I am not sharing out the Sketch up file as I have had other TH-camrs try to take my files and present them as their own. I did share out the dimensions though so it is pretty easy to learn/draw up the plans if you need. I highly recommend designing your own based off of your monitor selection. Cheers!

Thank you, thank you for this instructional video on Sketchup. After a number of false starts (upon viewing other's videos on Sketchup) I finally feel I can at least draw a rudimentary design. I have now drawn a design that shall guide me on my build.
I did notice that you separated the cabinet back fans by 8.5" instead of the MJR recommended 9.5". Was there a reason for this?

Thanks Mike! I'm about $1500 into it and really only need to purchase glass, paint, and vinyl wrap. Should be under $2000 for sure. Keep in mind this was spent over a year and doesn't have to be dropped all at once. You can also start with just 2 tvs and a pc and be playing pinball on the floor in an hour or two. how can we import the xml you provided in your website into Sketchup? It seems .XML is not a valid file extension to be imported by Sketchup. Thanks!!
You can't, all I provided was the pdf dimensions for my build. You will have to either make it from my plans or redraw it out in Sketchup to modify it to your liking. Can I ask what monitor was used as DMD? The shape and dimensions do not match the 1908fpt.
It's just a free 19" LCD computer monitor. Should be 1080p probably 60 Hz. Thanks for the watch!

Really? that's too bad. At least it is a smaller full dmd screen so it won't matter too much. Mind you I'm sure a 19" 1080p screen can be easily found. Good luck!
