I was a boarding school pupil here for four years and was in the last year to complete the full four years. I can't tell you how different it is now to then. The main hall had a huge lion's head fireplace in oak and marble (I know this because I accidentally pulled the "head" off the fireplace. the fire was big enough the heat the whole huge hallway. I was told as a super innocent ten-year-old that a secret passage was behind the fireplace) the floors were polished every day and were a herringbone parquet marvel. I lived on the top floor, the dorms were Luger, Nith, and Doon. The headmaster's study was to the right of the main access and was actually a hallway blocked off after the orangery was demolished in the earlier part of the century . Outside is just as devastating to see Mr Walter Smith was the gardener and his care of the lawns was immaculate all of the upper terraces were kept bowling green smooth. the lower terrace was for a polo green and the meadow below was a full-size football pitch. crossing the bridge took you to first the stable block and if you follow the road down the hill to a one-acre enclosed garden . we as boys tended all the gardens as part of our studies (it was intended to be a feeder institution to an agricultural university ) inside the enclosure was along with one side commercial size greenhouses we use to grow award-winning chrysanthemums, tomatoes the taste of which I can still remember incredible fruit and veg all set in an authentic Victorian garden. So many memories from fifty-odd years ago...I write this to offer a little history and context to this building later in life. the lift must have been put in after I left all the "safety doors" are not in my memory bank

Dear Adam, stunning report of Glaisnock House. Quite a pity to see decaying it. We, my partner and I, live in a old Dutch farm that goes back until at least the 16th century. Apart from this we are both very interested in your reports/uploads. But this one is beating them all. So sorry to see the deriliction of once a real beauty of premises.

The house was bought by a Chinese man in 2013 with the intention of turning it into a Chinese language school, however, he died of a brain tumour in 2015 and his family have been wrangling over the will ever since so the house has been left to rot.

Went with Woodlands school that's why it cost me three quid. It's a crime to state of the building now I can remember it in its gory. Great wonder round Adam. I have also been to this one with my son. It’s such a shame that these buildings are just rotting away. Just one word of WARNING ⚠️ to anyone else who’s thinking of going to this one. We where blocked on the way out by a car at the entrance just as you come off the road. The car belonged to the man that stays in the gatehouse just as you come in. My son got upset and worried about what he was going to do. I had to confront him and asked him to let us by he was quiet angry but after chatting for a short while. He let us passed he explained that he is frustrated and fed up of people coming round to see the house.

gee..that place is MASSIVE. It obviously had been redone(probably in the 1950s) The entrance stairs are for the times when women had the large skirted dresses..The steps are wider and not as high from one step to another(making it easier for the ladies ) The corridors and doorways looked a bit narrow for such a place. I stayed a week in Genoa Italy in the apartment of someone that lived in a huge house/castle. His whole apartment/5+ rooms/was redone from ONE bedroom of that floor in the 'house' (4 on each floor like that). It had a small elevator..but also had the original marble stairs with statues in niches.(it was not used except for furniture movers..so was not lit) was amazing

Loved watching your explore. I'm lucky enough to live about 3 miles from Glaisnook House and often walk around the grounds. So sad to see it in such disrepair. The flat roof was actually a glass conservatory. I wish I could attach a photo of how it looked.
The house was bought by a Chinese gentleman who was going to make it into a cookery school. Sadly he died, and no-one knows who he left the house to, hence there being no works done on it.

I am sorry to laugh at the end-- "Now I got to see if I can get the f***ing drone out of the tree now..." I know it is annoying, but the comment came as a surprise, and was comically delivered. Love your videos and respect you have for the properties. I noticed that the last person to live in that house had to be really old-- they had one of those chair lifts going up the staircase.

Good one as I'm watching. I agree that things aren't built the way they once were. What a shame it is.
Did you and Lisa ever named the van? ♥️ From Ga.

The owner XU Yaang had hoped to convert it into a chinese language school. He died in 2015.

This literally hurts my heart to see historical homes like this just left to rot. Although I am from the US. I am Scottish decent. Hence my last name Cloud. Comes from McLeod. If I were to find out that a home like this one was once owned by my family. I would definitely try to save it. Not just for me and my family, but for historical purposes there in Scotland. And maybe use it for housing unwed mothers, people that are trying to flee from domestic violence, or someone down on their luck trying to get back on their feet. Not have it sit to fall down. Anyway.
Beautiful place, and yes I can look past the destruction and see the hidden beauty.

Stunning building mate. I like the way you see past the decay and see the building for what it really is. Cheers

It’s so sad to see this beautiful building in such a state of decay. You’re right, they just don’t make them like this any more and never will again. It seems like such a waste... but I can see the bill for repairing this building would probably be more than it’s worth. What stunning scenery around the building too. There were some creepy vibes in some places. Maybe that’s just because of how decayed it is inside. Another amazing explore. Thanks Adam.
Ps edited to say I hope you managed to retrieve your drone!

What amazes me is that somebody would buy the mansion without having it checked out by a structural engineer to see if it could even be repaired.

It's sad that such a beautiful building is now is in such a state of disrepair. The woodwork is stunning. I'm surprised they haven't at least taken out all of the old woodwork to sell for people to use in their homes. 🤷 Wish I was super rich so I could buy old places like this and repair them.
