Martinez is really something else. Already a Villa legend. He just seems destined to win trophies with us. He's getting all the plaudits for his penalty shootout heroics and rightly so, after taking all the booing all game and basically shoving it right back in their faces like only Emi can.
However big shout goes to Duran and Cash for their parts in our goal. And Douglas Luiz, probably THE player we needed for that vital last penalty, he must have ice in his veins.

It has taken YT nearly three years to recommend this channel. Supporter since 8th. September 1971 (away to Chesterfield). Subscribed. We were shi... er... not very good, over the two legs. Never mind. The previous game against the Bottlers was a tad knackering. So, in reality, it was a brilliant performance. UTV!

I think Unai told Villa to not go hard at it, at the end of 120 mins nobody was on their knees or cramping. Then with Emi's rep in shootouts game over. My sister said who have we got on pens I said Martinez 😁
I understand the penalty law but I do not understand why he deserved a yellow. It was for shushing up the crowd or telling them to calm down......is that really a yellow? Anyway a game to forget but we got there, is our name on it! UTV
First yellow: Time wasting when 2-0 down and only 30-40 minutes on the clock... utter nonsense.
Second Yellow: Asking for the ball... even more nonsense.
Never been acceptable to get involved withthe crowd..especially thousands of highly strung fans who are going to react...he behaved like a pratt got warned by Ref several times..got hmself needessly booked and now is suspended for first leg...lets hope it doesn't cost us...great keeper but needs to keep his gob shut...and if he wants to shout the odds save until we have actually won the competition.

The ref was an idiot for giving him two ridiculous bookings and he made the home crowd look like chumps.

Neither were yellows. The first rime the ball was in play. Secondly shushing the crowd happens all the time and asking for a ball from the ballboy is now wrong????

I don’t know why some fans put down Matty cash. I watched the game a second time and he only had one duff pass. He was brilliant teamed up well with Bailey .
His spacing in the back to play out were not ideal. The cbs were yelling at him to clean it up.

I don't understand the Matty Cash hate. He makes some mistakes but like Kamara he more than makes up for it.
Given me a heart attack watching this my partner was trying to get my son to bed at the time of emi save. Followed by a silent scream and me punching myself in the nose as I was going crazy at the tv silently a mix of trying to celebrate while holding my nose unforgettable 😂

Another great show. Such memories to have after so many years of watching Villa again in Europe. It was typically on hindsight, a very memorable night but in the glow of all the celebration, it really was interesting (and be curious to hear your thoughts) of our actual performance last night. Take nothing away from Lille as they were very good, but we were very poor or more specifically...just passive. I was really curious wondering..is it just tiredness? is it tactics? are we waiting for minute 60 to bring Bailey on after Diary has tired them...but then again...we did NOTHING to tire them in almost 60-70 minutes...
Don't get me wrong, I'm ecstatic with the win like any Villan but that was a very poor performance to be fair before the chances in extra time. It felt for a long time that we simply "didn't want" to go forward...and when we did, everyone (McGinn / Pau / Tielemens and all) just kept giving the ball away. Were we that tired? Again don't get me wrong but if anyone else had seen any of the other English teams this week (e.g. West Ham last night..they really went for it even though it didn't pan out). I'm just wondering if we DID play for penalties after conceding the early goal?
