The original doctors are 8 not 4. Four Latins and four Greek . All 8 are more or less contemporaries except for Gregory the Great. If we can speak of 4 original doctors of the church they would be Ambrose, Augustine, Basil the great and John Chrisostom . 2 Latins and 2 Greeks.
