- I filmed this shot from the top of the Zakim Bridge in May 2001 the day before the stair tower was taken down.
I was working that day 100 feet under the Freedom Trail and it was raining. I could see it and hear it in spots through the maze of iron over my head looking up at the underside of the old i 93 packed with cars and trucks that you could hear and feel rolling by.
I called my friend Arthur, who was the Carpenter Stewart on the bridge. He told me his crew was going home because it was pouring out. I told him to please wait an hour and I'd be over with my camera at lunch time. He said he'd see what he could do.
The moment I climbed out of the hole it stoped raining.
The next day the stair tower was taken down.
Thanks to Arthur Rizzi this footage was captured.
ONCE AROUND! For the men and women who make Boston the BEST City in the World!
And a special thanks to Tip O'Niel and Teddy Kennedy for seeing the future and how great The City of Boston would be without the overhead highway going through it and it's Seaport.
