Once upon a time, the Metropolitan Opera was a goal for which to strive, a marker of excellence. When a singer stood on its stage, she knew she had 'arrived'. Now, it seems, it is little more than a workshop, a pit stop where artists polish the rough edges of their technique before moving on to the infinitely superior houses in Munich, London and Vienna. How times have changed.
Sulla prima parte d accordo ...ma che non sia l opera x lei no ...una voce da soprano spinto che puó fare trovatore senza paura ..un cordiale saluto ..
Henry Carey ...indeed she's absolutely one of the best soprano's on the current opera scene, up there with Anna Netrebko, Sonya Yoncheva, Aida Garifullina and the sublime Angel Blue in my opinion.
Henry Carey indeed I have her Joy Alone album her version of Summertime from Porgy & Bess is magnificent, she has such a rich and smokey middle-register. As for Jenny ^^ I'm not sure if she ever got the opportunity to perform with Dmitri Hvorostovsky when he was still alive but that would have been a match made in heaven in my opinion, still can't believe he is no longer with us. 😢
Adam Knight There is no there there. No finished product. Nothing. Today's broadcast attested to that, as if it needed to be said. I suppose JR would be an acceptable Leonora in some angry regie production in some Siberian province, say.
First contact with this soprano: at the beginning i thought that she could be possibly a good Verdi soprano but than came the struggled and hard-won coloratura with some out of tune moments. That was disappointing. But i hope that she can work on this deficits, i like the material of the voice.
The comments on this video are ridiculous. I am as much a champion of the old style as anyone, but this video proves that some of you dont have a critical bone in your body. Just because the met has fallen off heavily in terms of singer quality doesnt mean that every singer that sings there is terrible all the time. Ms. Rowley does an amazing job here, are there knit picks? Sure, but you could knitpick the hell out of many great singer recordings. Enjoy singing even when it isn't quite the standard of the greatest of ALL TIME (Ponselle, Ruffo, Caruso, etc.) it can still be great singing even if it isn't the top of all time. Christ, get your heads out of your asses, this aint nearly Netrebko quality.
Jake That's exactly what they are doing. Anyone with passing approximation of what constitutes a singer gets hired. And then the fans (and paid bots) take over the social media narrative announcing their greatest singer since sliced bread, only to be utterly forgotten, as expected and for obvious/good reason, in a season or two, if lucky; usually much sooner.
E' la prima volta che la ascolto. Mi sembra una voce diversa dalle solite finalmente, con un colore molto particolare e un acuto finale squillante e poderoso. 🙏🙏👍

So very true.
Bravaaaa!!!!
Pitch problems on the top and dirty coloratura. Otherwise good voice. Not a role for her.
I agree
And she’s done Norma...

Bravo !
Finally a real Verdi soprano!!!!!!! All hail La Rowley!!!!!
GG Robbins A most ignorant comment.
On verra ça sur la durée...
clean out your ears
Very nice middle voice. Shows promise.
If this is just the rehearsal I'd love to hear the finished product, what a voice. Can't think of too many soprano's better suited for Verdi.

Adam Knight Those are all horrible. Glad you enjoy them though. You’re unfortunately not alone.
This is great! Underrated soprano!

I believe Ms Rowley to be one of the biggest talents out there.

If NYCO was still running this would definitely be their kind of workhorse soprano.
It seems like they're letting just about anyone sing a main role at the MET these days.

I guarantee she's a million times the singer you'll ever be lol
@adventures of a young tenor what a silly comment
Spalanca tutto.

:(
Not the best. Sounds like she’s trying repertoire too heavy for her voice 😮
day 3 of NNN wish me luck
Too slow
What’s with the board way ish over acting ? every sopranos looks like someone got in front of her line of getting a Big Mac meal
Music of the Italian opera - no feelings and a lot of noise! Good soprano though.
