I'm looking for my first motorhome to live on full time. I'm a lorry driver and out every night so am used to park ups, I have used supermarkets, industrial estates, lay bys and remote country lanes, I have never had a problem anywhere and as everyone says gut instinct is vital, you will just feel right or wrong, I don't stop in lay bys on busy roads because lorrys going past all night end up rocking you all over the place so it's hard to get sleep, The feeling you get when parked up with no noise around and you pull your curtains get the bed ready and lay down is pure comfort, it really is something that makes you happy and content. Anyone just starting be safe and follow your instincts, you won't look back I guarantee you
Did 15 years of tramping, been out of a marriage 5 years, I've just bit the bullet and bought a campervan, like you say parking up wherever you can, thinking about ya load and ya diesel, not quite the same in the van, and if you can get somewhere quiet out the way, job done
I'm glad you've considered how everyone may feel differently about it and and got all your friends to give their take on it too! Thanks for sharing everyone :)
Make a Google map favourites list, save every spot using pins. Invite your (good) vanlife mates to the list to add theirs. A group of 7 of us have over 5,000 spots in the UK and Europe which pop up as green pins on the map ; easy to find one whenever you’re in an area! Tip; keep the list close friends only. Noisy unclean and disrespectful vanlifers shut down spots
Really appreciate your videos. I am a retiree on a budget. I have no home to come back to, and don't fancy a waiting list that might never deliver, so I'm strongly considering a one-man motorhome for travelling the UK and Europe.
8:21 drop the stigma that you're going to have a problem. Hope for and expect the best and be prepared for the worse. You will have a happier experience. 😊🚚
Thank you for asking us to be involved loved hearing the girls thoughts too totally right no one knows who is sleeping in the van. Take care see you soon XxRR
Some very good advice , I sleep like the dead 😴 lol but I do have a very protective Belgium mallinoi and a big German shepherd , any noise they're at the windows kicking off , generally no problems 😉
Hi everyone. I usually look for BROKEN GLASS SKID MARKS RUBBISH IN BUSHES LIKE MCDONALDS OR KFC THEM BLOODY BALLOON CARTRIDGES AND DEFINITELY DOWN DEEP IN THAT GUT FEELING believe you will know Please enjoy wild camping as it’s free and it’s the best thing ever!!
So glad to have been pointed to this vid thanks to Camper Vibes! I've just bought my first motorhome and am playing a trip from East Sussex to the Outer Hebrides, with my 6 yr old and will be doing over nights on the way but want to mix wild camp and campsites so this has reassured me. Cheers!
👍 Hi. CooI channel. I stay in my Van w my dog. She's too friendly! Scares any trouble away. Coastal NSW Australia. Ocean, bays & rivers always. Amazing views! Mostly friendly people. Thinking about starting my own channel? Cheap "ish", easy Van build. Solar, 3 battery banks, DC-DC etc. Don't travel very far tho. Fuel prices killed that idea. Cheers!
Yes! Start a channel to tell your stories and share your experiences. Have fun with it. If you go into it without any expectations of TH-cam fame and fortune, you won't be disappointed. 😎
I bought my motorhome in November. Planning my first trip next month. First wild camping stop is going to be The Science Centre in Glasgow. Any experience there?
I recently found your channel & I am so enjoying the content. And I love your accent! Are you here in the states? You should put together a group camping event so us like minded peeps can meet. Thanks for the great videos.

Check out Max. youtube.com/@RustyRoseAdventures He's a similar age to you and is working through a lot of the challenges you are facing. Insurance is likely to be the killer for a new driver. Good luck!
If only we could do boom docking. In America you can boom dock for up too two weeks before you have too move along. We don’t have no where the freedoms they enjoy in America. You can take scramblers off road, without fear of some local authorities or police suing you, you can walk and camp anywhere. We can’t do anything like that in England it’s just a culture of restrictions. Last time I sent too Texas to visit my cousin he took me night Hog shooting from pick up trucks. In these big beefy V8 trucks, with hunting rifles. We got 3 kills, took the Hogs too a local butcher the next morning. He butchered them for us, then straight on the bbq. They were delicious😋 doing something like that in the U.K. is only a dream.
Dana, you are looking good like the new hair style and beard trim. Looking like rag n bone man. Get some that’s. But seriously looking good and fashionable. You were getting unkempt. But on point now brother. Big up the dazza
Hi Darren, Thankyou for the great, very informative videos. Please forgive my ignorance on both my enquiries, I'm looking at starting van life but I was hoping you could tell me why you chose a motorhome instead of a self build? Also, I've moved all over the country for work, so don't have close friends & don't have family, how do you register a vehicle if you don't have a permanent address? Hope you don't mind me picking your brain! Many thanks. Mick.
thanks, guys really interesting from all sides. Now a question about having a drink, I like a couple of glasses of vino and was wondering how you all managed. I know Darren likes his fizzy pop. was wondering how you went about it. Easy for couples as one could have a drink the other one not, but being a single bloke doesn't want to have to be moved on if I have had a drink. Does it mean I have to go teetotal unless I am on a weekend off at a campsite? Thanks again am loving all the tips and info Paul in sunny Bournemouth
I'm mostly off the booze, which Vanlife friends will attest to as being a GOOD THING. I murder the karaoke. anyway.. Drunk in charge is a serious offence if you're intoxicated by yourself, even if your in the back and not in the drivers seat. I've known some go to the extent of putting on steering wheel locks, rotating the driver's seat, parking ramps, etc to show there is no intent to drive. Personally, I never take the risk.
Noisy sometimes, but popular. It's a legitimate place for to stop and get some rest. As long as you don't get out levelling ramps, camp chairs and a BBQ. 😁
Great advice from all of you, however, my thoughts spring to what was said, NO ONE was worried about the environment they park up in, their concerns lie with the fear of other people, which is sad really that society has come to this.
because it's not explicitly mentioned, doesn't mean that anti-social behaviour or harm to the environment is being encouraged. Leave no trace. Clean up other people's litter. 😎👍 It's really hard to make one big video that covers each and every element of every possible scenario.
we went to a lovely (what we thought) spot, an old road (now layby) divided from the main road by trees etc, there must have been 10 or more cars with 'old' men therein, like you said my gut didn't like the spot, we moved on later checked and it was a dogging site..oops..not interested
Me ,the Mrs and 2 dogs are about half way through our 90 day tour of Europe. We were on a park up in Spain and some neighbours put a dogs water bowl and lead outside their van and went out for a cycle ride. We both thought surely they haven't left their dog in the van. They didn't have a dog just a bowl and lead 😀😄😅
Brilliant Matthew, that’s exactly what camper vans and motorhomes are exactly for. I think people who own motorhomes I just tour the U.K. are doing themselves a disservice. My parents are currently in northern Spain on tour. They’ve done France, down through Spain onto Portugal then their going straight across too Italy, then slowly working their way up through too Austria, Germany, Holland then back home. Their retired the jammy sods so have the time, unlike me🙄😂
Yeh you have a lot more camping freedom in Scotland than England. In England you can’t camp anywhere. We hired a motorhome for the N.C 500 last year, and every night we just pulled over where we liked and camped the night. The north east and west coast spots were stunning. Beautiful clear blue seas and golden sand beaches, it could pass for the Caribbean.🙂👍🏻
Yeh true but if you’ve got a motorhome you’ve got a flushing toilet, shower and water storage. There’s plenty of places you can get water. Just stop at any shop, hotel etc ask politely and most will let you have their water. When we did the N.C 500 in Scotland that all me and the wife did. Most places let us use their bathroom facilities for water waste and fresh water.
You just start by getting a van and parking any damn where you want cause this is america, anyone knocks you give em some 2nd amendment for good measure and further peace of mind
This is not wildcamping. You are doing vanlife, not wildcamping. Stop hijacking our genre with misleading titles & descriptions. #vanlifeisnotwildcamping
Just as nobody here is hammering tent pegs into a glacier, you're not parked with a sea view eating sandwiches. Who on earth gets mixed up between two entirely different "genres"? #justwords
Nahh im gonna get abuse for this, but you cant 'wild camp' in a van or a motorhome, you just park it up. Same as you would do anywhere else but the scenery is different

For a solo female the biggest pair of men's boots you can find sitting on the step is good.... And a dog of course
You might even want to get a beware of the dog sign - English bull terrier eg. Even if you don't have a dog!

Firearms act. Even if it's not a real gun, if you were to waft it around like a real gun you can be charged with a firearms offence.
Anything wild sounds a bit iffy.
Nooo don’t be daft. Wild camping is the best. Especially in Scotland where you can literally pull up next to the nearest Loch with views to kill.
