I'm native japanese but I really had similar feeling with him. I have no goals as to studying Spanish. Feeling of suki is really important. it drives you.
Woah I'm so happy you want to study Spanish since I'm from Argentina, i started studying japanese since January 2021 but it's still bad. I wish you the best on your studies 🙏
Hi! I'm a native Spanish speaker. I'm learning Japanese now, but I'm really bad at it. If you want to, I can help you with your Spanish and you can help me with my Japanese :-)
I absolutely agree with you. I'm a native spanish speaker, but I got more and more interested in japanese language over time, until I started learning some months ago, and I started for the same reason: "好きだから。" So let's try our best! Buena suerte!
When people ask me why, I just say, “I like the language and culture.” It’s short and sweet. It’s been two years of kinda serious studying now (but off and on learning since 2010), and my BIGGEST advice is to not care if you’re making perfect sentences when you speak. As long as the idea is understood, it’s totally fine. Also, in tandem to my advice, look for native speakers and other Japanese learners so you have more practice.
Ty for the advice I’ve been studying the language for 2 months now (everyday) so I’m still a beginner and throughout that time period, I’ve realized that learning from a native speaker like Tanaka-san (or advanced speakers) and learning from other resources really help!
This mindset of "No Goals, Just For Fun, if I stop someday it's no big deal" is how I started studying two years ago. I'm still doing it and very much enjoying the experience. Thank you for putting my feelings into words so elegantly.
This video really hits close to home! I’ve always struggled to find a hobby or something that really made me curious or passionate and this has always made me feel bad, like I didn’t have a personality or I was weak because I couldn’t bring myself to really like anything. I watch anime a lot and one day I started studying Japanese just because I liked it and I found it interesting but I didn’t feel like I really had the “right” to do it as I didn’t have any clear goals in mind. But then, when the time to choose university came and I couldn’t find anything that I really wanted to study and I was afraid wouldn’t make the right choice, I decided not to care about what others thought and just follow my heart. So I picked up Japanese Studies and guess what? Best decision of my life. For the first time I feel motivated and passionate about studying something and I just can’t get enough of it! I had never been this happy before and now I also have some big goals! Never give up on your heart, just follow it and it will show you the way!
I also dont have big goals when I started writing and learning hiragana and katakana.. It all started as a challenge to my mental capabilities... And I am glad that Im still at it at my own pace. Im planning to take JLPT soon. God willing.
@@samsiahabdullah9164 I love to do Japanese calligraphy. It’s strangely soothing and most hiragana and katakana is so beautiful. Kanji is a bit difficult tho.
I found your comment very relatable T_T especially the first part. Unfortunately, I still haven't made that right decision that would make me happy as I chose a major I'm not really interested into just because it was the least one I hate 😢 I really hope to find what I like and figure out my biggest goal in life! I'm so happy for you 😊
Thank you for making this! I had similar worries as Egg-San. I started learning Japanese just because one day in the bookstore i happened to see a cute Japanese textbook and I thought it was so pretty. I gave up a little later but picked it up back again in university but i felt a bit lacking whenever in class people asked why I want to be good at Japanese. I don't think I would work or live in Japan any time soon. But through the years, studying Japanese just became sort of important to me. I know I don't need a huge, amazing reason to keep going but to hear it from you makes me a lot happy this morning as I get ready to tackle my Kanji goals for the day! ^___^
I try to learn Japanese just because I watch Japanese drama. I don't have goals just like Egg-san. When I join some language community, most of them set their goal to study or work in Japan. And I started to think, is it necessary for me to learn? Then I stopped to learn. But when I watch Japan drama and reality show, I can understand some of the words and it makes me happy. So I learn Japanese again 😊 Just like Fairy Sushi said, I met new people because I learn Japanese. Thank you for this video ☺
I attempted to learn Korean when I was 16 but gave up after picking up Hangeul because I didn’t know where to start learning the grammar and vocabulary. After visiting Japan I had this ‘I want to learn Japanese’ phase but just didn’t really get down to it because I have a short term memory and just wasn’t sure if I could do it. However I really like these 2 idols Hashimoto Yuta and Sato Eisho, both of whom are fluent in Chinese. Eisho is mixed Japanese-Chinese and learnt it at school but Yuta started learning it about 4-5 years ago and he has close to no Japanese accent when speaking Chinese now. Then I fell in love with Naniwa Danshi but their videos and all have basically no subtitles and I relied heavily on the kind people who spent their time translating the videos. It has been 38 days since I started learning Japanese from scratch. It is amazing how once you set your heart down on something, you will be able to make it a part of your daily routine and it becomes less of a chore. There is definitely something charming about Language Learning. For the first 2 weeks I tried like a 6-7 hour study time every day and that overwhelmed me and I was forgetting information so easily. Now I do about 2 hours a day(1 in the morning 1 at night) and I find it helps me a lot. I bought Naniwa Danshi’s First Arena Tour. For now it is just a CD for listening, maybe in the future I can play it and then realise that I understand what they were saying.
My native language is Spanish and currently I am learning English because o want to leave Venezuela, but I always feel interested about japanese culture and one day I'd like to visit Japan, I want to learn Japanese too but I feel that I need to learn English first because is more important though...
Just found this channel and it’s absolutely beautiful, creative and so helpful 🥰 I started studying Japanese one year ago and it has been a great experience. I’ve not come so far but it’s okay I take my time and I’m proud of what I’ve learned so far! Actually it was Japanese that started my adoration for learning new languages💗
My Japanese learning journey started at the end of April, 2022. And my first goal was just to watch anime without subtitles (so yeah, technically learning Kanji shouldn't be my purpose...) After looking at the n5 list I was like- THAT'S SO MANY THINGS! I'LL DEFINITELY UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING IN ANIMR AFTER IT! So I got the duolingo course and started doing like one lesson a day till 2023. Im still happy with my progress though, it didn't took really much effort. One day in the beginning of 23 I was like "Why don't I create a learning server on discord for myself and other people learning with resources"? I got curious and looked if there were any servers. Yeah, there were. I was amazed by these people's Japanese level, turned out I was still a beginner and it really motivated me to study more. I was "able to pass" an online n5 test (almost failed hehe) It was a nice experience. Which motivated me more. As for now, I'm studying N4 vocab (still N5 lacks but I don't care, I'm not going to try pass any of the exams soon anyways). I never thought I'm going to listen to japanese beginner podcasts on daily basis (sometimes even higher level than N3, though many words I don't understand). And yeah, one of my main goals is still to watch anime. Good luck everyone learning :D
Egg-San fairy spoke some real truth there. I have asked myself all these questions in the last 6 months but thanks to Egg-San I'm gonna continue !
I absolutely love your content because I can definitely see the dedication in every video you have made🥺💖💕✨! And this video is so relatable. I simply started studying a bit of Japanese just because I love writing kanji and Japanese sentences I found in Anime! But I don't have the guts to tell this to any of my friends yet because they are learning Japanese with very clear goal in their mind. They want to work in Japan in the future, in contrast to me that studying it just because it's fun-- Please keep up the good work! I'm having a lot of fun while watching them >< btw the ending is so wholesome!
This video was so sweet and encouraging. I have a Japanese 202 final in a few days, and I am stressed. But this helped me remember why I started studying! You are right; it really does open more opportunities for meeting friends, finding new hobbies, and enriching your life. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for making this, such a beautiful story. And the ending was gold! Sorry I'm truly a crybaby watching this, so many level I can relate to this. I've been studying Japanese since September last year, dropped on October. Then I remember how I started and thought how can I left hours of memorised kanji, so in December I picked up my study again. For me, my motivation was because I like it. When you learn a new language you get a whole new side of the internet. It's a true gem! No matter what language you're learning, it's truly worth it.
The reason I'm studying is mainly that I've made some *grave* mistakes in translating something specific eight years ago that I still haven't forgiven myself for. I'm not going to rest easy until I can set things right. But even though I have a goal that's very important to me, I can still only learn at a snail pace because I'm doing it out of necessity rather than personal passion. I'd say if you just do it because you *want* to, you have a much better chance of success than if you do it because you *have* to like me.
are we not gonna talk about how Egg-san was talking about wanting to learn Japanese, and had a conversation about not knowing in Japanese, while all that was in Japanese? 寿司の妖精の本当力 -also darn, didn't expect this video to be a life lesson...-
I feel really seen by this video 💖 started learning Japanese recently and been very self-conscious of the fact that I don't have a "goal", as if doing "just because" isn't good enough. Thank you for the sweet encouragement 🙏
Thank youuuu so much for this motivation 😭 After I learned some basics of hiragana, I stopped for quite a year because I don't want to pressure myself in learning the language. And now I think it's already time to get back and continue studying slowly.
Thank you so much for this video. I totally feel like your Egg-San - I started learning japanese because I wanted to learn it not because I have a goal and sometimes I think by myself why I learn this language. I don't need it for a job and I don't want to move to Japan and I am not even good at learning a new language... but I just want it. That this "I just want to" could be enough to really do it makes me happy. Thank you so much for speaking to me through your video - it means a lot to me.
This is super encouraging! I would often have times when i stopped studying and feel bad. I also come back to learning when I'm feeling motivated again. I think the Japanese language is beautiful.
20 July 2022. SEMANGAT ! Fighting!!! YOU CAN DO IT 🥰 Thank you Tanaka-San 🥰 Taipei, 20 July 2022 ( IG ttstya )
This video really hit me hard! This is exactly what I'm going thru with my Japanese studies. I absolutely LOVE it but I get really frustrated at times and I lose motivation. I'm so happy that I found your channel! Thank you so much for dedicating part of your time to helping us!
This was such an important and lovely message - thank you for making this & reminding us the it is okay to learn something new with the sole intention of enjoying the act of learning. No big goal or achievement needed! This is exactly what I needed to right now! Thank you again.
So cute and true. I started the first time with learning Japanese when I was 16. Because of Covid and sitting at home a lot, I picked it up again. Much older now. Learning takes more effort, but the learning process itself is fun. Japanese is a fun language to learn. I want to use it for travelling around Japan and in the meantime for my job as a flight attendant. When I tell Japanese people I study Japanese, the always say Arigatou! Which I think is so charming and kind! ❤️
Just found this channel and started watching some videos, this one in special really makes me feel great. Right now im living in japan with my family. Somehow I was born here but can only speak Spanish and English, i travelled to America when i was born so now im a high schooler but have too little knowledge about japanese, i can talk to my teachers and friends but I stopped learning Japanese a few months ago, kinda gave up. I should really try studying Japanese again because i might grow up here and gonna need to understand it when i start working. Thanks for all the support and for making such nice videos.
I've been studying the language off and on for awhile and I love it when something sticks and I remember just a little more, or a try writing a character and it looks pretty. I think it's a valid concern if you are thinking of dumping money into something, but you can always get one thing and then see how far you can go on the wonderful freely available resources out there and just enjoy any step forward you make.
Studying nihongo on my own. Books are very expensive here.. Everything from level one to kanji for beginners. Also the comics. I think only people who are in love with this language would not mind spending $$$ on this subject. Its much cheaper to go to Japan and buy all these.. Anyway I really enjoyed watching your videos.. and listening to your soothing voice.. Just came across your channel about a week ago.. and immediately subscribed.
Thank you for this! I am having same worries as Egg-san. I took N5 classes then stopped halfway and recently I'm feeling motivated again. I am currently self-studying.
thank you so much. i have just enlightened when you compare studying something with hitting the gym. i have never thought about this point before. this is my second effort to study Japanese since i’ve graduated from high school and i very appreciate your creative and attentive contents for the beginners.
Waaa, this hits home so much.. my thinking is kind of similar to Egg-san. Such an inspiring video! It motivated me more to study Japanese! Thank you soo much~
Hi! Although I have only "started" learning Japanese I find your channel quite helpfull. I just love the culture of Japan and Japan itself and I also would love to work in Japan in a few years and I found your channel as a good stepping stone until I can afford Japanese lessons. I know it will be a hard and long journey but once I can live in Japan as someone who speaks the language I have reached my goal. With that being said I appricate all the help, thank you Tanka san.
Wow, I'm so glad I came across this video and your channel! Apart from video sending a very good message, I could understand most of what was being said by listening to it, so I could pay attention to the subtitles. This is super important to me because I was struggling with memorizing hiragana for years, I just can't simply remember it! But the it's very different when it's actually used. I learn better from the actual situations. Plus your speech is slow enough for me to be able to do all things at once - listen, comprehend, check the parts I didn't understand with English text, and pay attention to the subtitles. This is brilliant! Thank you so much!
I've been practicing to learn Japanese it's kinda hard but I'm still trying and I'm studying Japanese language alone it's really hard. thanks for uploading this video it helps me a lot! please keep making video like this!!
This helps me so much! I have been trying to learn Japanese on and off for a while and literally feel the same thing as the character. This story inspires me and encourages me to learn even more!
this video comforted me in a really nice way, your voice is very nice to listen to and calmed me down a lot, and this also gave me a lot of motivation to start studying!! thank you so much, i wish everyone who studies / also just decided to start studying lots of luck!
It's okay to quit. Eh? Lol but it is so true! We can quit things and it's okay despite maybe our parents and teachers always saying while growing up, don't quit.
I relate to Egg-san a lot. This felt as if Tanaka-san herself was giving me good advice and encouragement. Thank you, Tanaka-sensei, I'll continue to do my best
Thank you for the wonderful content, Tanaka-san and Egg-san. I have dropepd 日本語 multiple times already but I'm still studying. Thank you for the motivation.
I'm very glad that there are so many people who are interested in Japanese!! I think the story works anything when you start a new hobby. (I'm sorry if my English has mistake. I'm a Japanese student so...)
I love this so must!! The story you told and characters in this video are so nice!! And I really enjoy learning Japanese in your channel! Thank you for making this!🥰😍
Wow, this was very beautiful and funny! It confirmed my decision to learn Japanese even though I don't have any clear goal or big reason 😊 Thank you very much!
I don't plan to live in Japan or have a career connected to Japanese. I don't even watch anime or dramas. I love the food and Japanese fashion trends. But i guess thats not enough of a reason to learn Japanese. I dont need to speak Japanese to enjoy the food or to scroll through pinterest for harajuku outfits after all. Actually i dont think i have a reason. I just see it as a game. Its just fun to learn new characters and words. I also love to write japanese, the characters are so beautiful and it's just fun to copy Japanese texts in my notes. Maybe i will give up one day but I don't really care. I do it for fun and maybe one day I will start reading Japanese books or watch more anime and one day I wanna visit Japan so at least Ill be able to talk a bit with natives or at least read my menu in a restaurant even though it's not that needed. 😂 (Btw this video was absolutely awesome)

It might change someone's life.
Just like this channel !
-also darn, didn't expect this video to be a life lesson...-
Thank you so much for your video🥰 I can really relate to Egg-san soI feel so thankful and appreciate your kind words in the video ❤️
This was so validating. Thank you.
This is super encouraging! I would often have times when i stopped studying and feel bad. I also come back to learning when I'm feeling motivated again. I think the Japanese language is beautiful.
Thanks for this story. It gives me vibes to study and give up but still can go back anytime and go for the better version of me.
WHY IS THIS VIDEO SO CUTE !! This is so perfect .. I've decided I'll try learning japanese.
20 July 2022.
SEMANGAT !
Fighting!!!
YOU CAN DO IT 🥰
Thank you Tanaka-San 🥰

This video really hit me hard! This is exactly what I'm going thru with my Japanese studies. I absolutely LOVE it but I get really frustrated at times and I lose motivation. I'm so happy that I found your channel! Thank you so much for dedicating part of your time to helping us!
This was such an important and lovely message - thank you for making this & reminding us the it is okay to learn something new with the sole intention of enjoying the act of learning. No big goal or achievement needed! This is exactly what I needed to right now! Thank you again.
Awww this video has touched my heart. I shall accept the advice open heartedly. I wish everyone good luck with their interests and passion.
This story is so cute! It's inspirational and there is that little fairy storyline! I love it❤❤
So cute and true. ❤️
You are the best Tanaka-san 🥺!
This is so beautiful! Thank you for the great content!
I love the style of these, they're so friendly!
I am from マレーシア。 Studying nihongo on my own.
Great video. I share it with our acting students that have doubts. The content and suggestions apply to so many areas of life. Amazing video.
Thank you for this! I am having same worries as Egg-san. I took N5 classes then stopped halfway and recently I'm feeling motivated again. I am currently self-studying.
thank you so much. i have just enlightened when you compare studying something with hitting the gym. i have never thought about this point before. this is my second effort to study Japanese since i’ve graduated from high school and i very appreciate your creative and attentive contents for the beginners.
after finishing the video: bursting into tearsㅠㅠ
Waaa, this hits home so much.. my thinking is kind of similar to Egg-san. Such an inspiring video! It motivated me more to study Japanese! Thank you soo much~
Thank you, Tanaka san! You’ve cheered me up and gave me motivation!💪
Thank you for this very sweet video, Tanaka san!
Such a timely video...decided to try studying Japanese again. Thank you for the motivation. ♥️
After watching anime/drama for many years and studying Japanese on and off, I think I'll try to pick up studying again.
cheer up!
This helps me so much! I have been trying to learn Japanese on and off for a while and literally feel the same thing as the character. This story inspires me and encourages me to learn even more!
Thanks for the video! It's motivates me a lot!
this video comforted me in a really nice way, your voice is very nice to listen to and calmed me down a lot, and this also gave me a lot of motivation to start studying!! thank you so much, i wish everyone who studies / also just decided to start studying lots of luck!
It's okay to quit.
Eh?
Lol but it is so true! We can quit things and it's okay despite maybe our parents and teachers always saying while growing up, don't quit.
keep the spirit, I love all of your videos
I relate to Egg-san a lot. This felt as if Tanaka-san herself was giving me good advice and encouragement. Thank you, Tanaka-sensei, I'll continue to do my best

It's so great!! Thank you very much! I needed it!! ❤
Thank u so much,,I can relate do much😢💜
Thank you so much. This was really encouraging 😊
(Btw this video was absolutely awesome)
