so true ... if having high apm doesn't mean very high skill (I have 180) but really helps to be concentrated, checking if every base is well groupped, fast units making during battles...
"Micro" is short for "Micro Management". It means the tactics you apply during battles, like pulling wounded units back and basically just do the right action.
SC=multi-tasking,micro,macro,strategy. WC=coil, nova, impale, swarm, you cannot resist our charm, from the graveyard we emerge, this is the hour of the SCOURGE!
I wondered about that too. It seems that at times he uses both keyboard hotkeys and mouse cicks to select a unit or to give a command to his army, so the corresponding sound for that action is heard many times.
hes firing off his nerves in his hands in his spare time and hes tuning his orcs reaction time a bit faster then normal for harvesting trees and w/e right when they spawn. Its mainly for his nerves so hes not surprised if he needs to react quickly. I dont do that but I think its smart.
@tridentrpg Not being a professional gamer, I don't know how true this is, but what I've heard about Grubby's spaz-attack clicking is that it gets his hands warmed up and keeps them occupied during the slow startup to the game, so that he can have his insane APM during actual battles.
Ye but i find that normally for more advance setups, use ctrl # 1+2 so on for buildings..and then ctrl 1+2+ so on for troops...that then lets you use num-pad for buildings and the top numbers for your guys..this is personal preference ofc but it tends to be faster
Oh sorry for not answering until now^^, i ll try to explain it with my poor english. In fact, when the peon takes gold and put the bag in the hall, he takes like 0.07 seconds before automatically going back to the mine, but if you select the peon and click him back to the mine just before he put the gold bag in the hall, he put the gold mine and takes no time to go back to the mine. In this way, your peons are much faster.
Grubby VS SKY series are always the most fun to watch, as best ORC player vs the best HUM player One thing I don't understand is why Grubby chose to use UD in this year's WCG grand finals to against SKY, and lost. I'm sure Grubby would performed better using ORC than UD.
they are not just spamming, its like running before playing a sport, your nerves are faster and you react faster. Also, in case of orcs, he moves faster the peons in the mine so they go faster to the mine, each time. Also they are creating group of units for their custom groups.
Just to keep himself psyched up. If he clicked just once, when a battle came hed be all chilled out and relaxed and probably smoking a joint with no clothes on.
Build burrow at 260 gold. Usually, if done right, at the time that u have 260 gold(assuming that u already will be building the altar, and having 2 peons trained at your great hall), there is a small gap in the peon mining line so that u can easier select the altar building peon that will build the first burrow. Hope that helps
@Ferretsroq meh... I think that's just an excuse to spam actions and get higher apm. I don't do redundant clicks, I have an apm of about 150, and I don't feel like having any higher would help me.
the point is, if you get your hero killed its a huge advantage to the other side as they get exp, even with ankh, but using a tp means they dont get that exp
your name is possibly the most intricate and sophistaced name in the cosmos and you should be rewarded for your creativity by given hot women and gold in immense no absurd amounts
his macro is god like.... seriously it takes him less then a second to go back to his base, build, and then go right back to the fight. It makes me wanna cry
No. Micro is a short of "micro management." Micro management is, as the name applies, managing the 'micro' or 'small portions' of the game. This means everything that has with unit control is micro. Macro is everything in the 'big picture', like buying units, building stuff and so on.
In reality, the best RTS unit control remains among pro Starcraft players. This may not remain the case, but because SC continues to be more competitive the necessary skill level of pros remains higher. Nobody in Warcraft can match the micro of Slayers_Boxer, July, Nada, or any of the famous micro-intensive players. Hell, Nada's APM hits 600 and can average as high as 450, considerably more than any WC player. For micro, Boxer remains God. All hail the emperor.
actually moosse is right, he only put it wrong so you didn't understand it well. He means in Warcraft the focus is more on the battle (because the units are expensive, you don't want to lose them, so you try to pay attention to the battle more, and the battles are more important then the macro) in starcraft it's a bit the other way round, the units are relatively cheap and you often have a lot of them. and in starcraft economy seems to be more important compared to warcraft.
No. On TM, if human doens;t have a TP later on, grubby could just mass raider and raid the shop and keep the human at base. The problem with human and undead army is that they cannot split into two smallaer fighting forecs
i dont get why they dont group there stronghold and baracks toghether makes it alot easyer and u can still raise your apm by swiching between scout peasant and altar
I think Grubby is the best Orc by far and I notice when watchin these FPVOD thingies that his apm is very low compared to the other pros and I think they go slightly over the top with clicking and they'll miss out important micro. Honestly I've seen games where players were too busy clicking and it resulted in their heroes being killed easily
Starcraft is macro(base management) Warcraft is micro(unit management) Whichever you like more is the one you should play, both take nearly the same amount of skill. It comes down to if you like mass battles and technology (Starcraft) or magic, orcs, elves and heroes(Warcraft).
@ Civi1izatoR Did u ever played SC on a high lvl? It might be treu that during some matches (especially when you play Zerg) you can lose a lot of units and it doesnt matter that much, but at the end Micro is as important as it is in WC III. Just think of Slayers_Boxer. His micro won him a lot of matches.
Orc towers are really weak defensively. Magic damage or simple focus fire will take them down. However, offensively combined with units they can be strong if you don't scout. Look for an early war mill.
It's nothing impossible! ^^ You just need to learn hotkeys and always use rallies/control groups! After you do that, your macro and micro should be almost perfected if you do the right strategies and recognize often used strategies, like if you go Knights vs Casters, make sure there's no secret Gryphon Averies there ^^ The only micro you should worry about is keeping a unit or two next to your hero so he/she doesn't get surrounded.
Very nice yet very old. Shams are out its all walkers now. How old is this vid anyway. And concerning the Starcraft vs Warcraft chatter: Starcraft 2 is coming soon and rumour has it grubby intends to hop on, so we will see if he can top the game like he does Warcraft.
Nonamereal: the Star War event took place in China, so you'd assume Warcraft would be in CHINESE (NOT Korean), right? You also haven't apparently seen the replay. The replay is dead on with the timing and events in this VOD
Grubby doesn't play 8 hours a day EVERY day. It started as a hobby for him, he's just skilled. It's very possible to become pro without playing a retarded amount of hours per day
Nice Battle! I am a fan from Grubby. He is very good. The Orc King. Warcraft 3 is the best game ever!!
every pro replay i watch i get amazed of the moves, but now in first person i get even more impressed :)
"Clearly, Tassadar has failed us, You must not!" -Dwarven mortor team/member of the Protoss conclave, Warcraft 3/Starcraft
wow, i knew these guys were fast, but u never know how fast until u actually see it from their point of view. amazing
Wow, didn't realize how old this video was till I saw the good ol' farseer come out.
so true ... if having high apm doesn't mean very high skill (I have 180) but really helps to be concentrated, checking if every base is well groupped, fast units making during battles...

@mausten Yes it's OK tout kill summons with purge, but it's for the sorceress' skill which slow down all it's units
There is some slick micro at 6:59-6:55 with the hero block with the peon. pretty classic
this is SO old, no walker raiders, no BM. Great game
I wondered about that too. It seems that at times he uses both keyboard hotkeys and mouse cicks to select a unit or to give a command to his army, so the corresponding sound for that action is heard many times.
this is an amazing game, both played well
i loved the peon use to surround the beast master
He used shammys because of the lightning shield that pwnz, and the purge effect that gives 400 dmg to summoned units ( water ele, Bears and so on )
@leo14992 timings im sure, also the fact that if im correct he had tauren chieftan and chain lightning, which stomps casters quite well
Really well played by grubby on this game :) Outstanding player in my opinion
FS and TC are such a good combo against hu
Lyn uses it a lot
hes firing off his nerves in his hands in his spare time and hes tuning his orcs reaction time a bit faster then normal for harvesting trees and w/e right when they spawn. Its mainly for his nerves so hes not surprised if he needs to react quickly. I dont do that but I think its smart.

Grubby is da man! He is my idol in the WC3 game. He is serruz bizznuzz!
wow this whole video was entertaining a lot of chasing heroes around and fighting non-stop
"WC is the best RTS ever"
"SC is a form of art created by god himself via the hands of blizzard"
Ye but i find that normally for more advance setups, use ctrl # 1+2 so on for buildings..and then ctrl 1+2+ so on for troops...that then lets you use num-pad for buildings and the top numbers for your guys..this is personal preference ofc but it tends to be faster

the beginning of his building sounds like he's making a beat
Starcraft is what I prefer. More balanced out, but alot more strategies, the heroes and 3 diff resources is a really difference.
Grubby VS SKY series are always the most fun to watch, as best ORC player vs the best HUM player

wow, did you see that at 6:09. that is some nice building placement
Just to keep himself psyched up. If he clicked just once, when a battle came hed be all chilled out and relaxed and probably smoking a joint with no clothes on.

If you identified yourself as a director on TH-cam before 2007 there was a very large time limit on videos.
OMFG
He is the GOD of this Game!
first schock wave was so nice ^
@Ferretsroq meh... I think that's just an excuse to spam actions and get higher apm. I don't do redundant clicks, I have an apm of about 150, and I don't feel like having any higher would help me.
I've played both and can confirm this
the point is, if you get your hero killed its a huge advantage to the other side as they get exp, even with ankh, but using a tp means they dont get that exp
your name is possibly the most intricate and sophistaced name in the cosmos and you should be rewarded for your creativity by given hot women and gold in immense no absurd amounts
Awesome match!
differents styles ! sc and wc3 just different and good.
his macro is god like.... seriously it takes him less then a second to go back to his base, build, and then go right back to the fight. It makes me wanna cry
wow, gaming is serious business
No. Micro is a short of "micro management."

very nice work at 5:30-6:30
Warcraft 3 TFT ....such a good game :)
this is way better than a replay, you can actually see what he does everytime...
He's way too fast! Im gonna use that Building Grouping tech!
@thehyphenator
There wasn't an option to leave health bars on permanently back then.
@maddin2001 i think that tp is more useful, doenst it make ur hero invul so he wont die anyways??
In reality, the best RTS unit control remains among pro Starcraft players. these ppl train/playing 24/7

Actually Nada has had 471 average APM in one of his game.
to warm up his hands to keep his micro later
@Ferretsroq He says it helps him concentrate
why the orc dont do 1 or 2 SW for dispell ?
I don't rly get it
Actually, I've seen some HU play without a single hero and still be lvl 25 solo.
KING OF KING ORCS!
i dont get why they dont group there stronghold and baracks toghether makes it alot easyer and u can still raise your apm by swiching between scout peasant and altar
theres only 2 different resources in starcraft Minerals and Vespein(Gas)
I think Grubby is the best Orc by far and I notice when watchin these FPVOD thingies that his apm is very low compared to the other pros and I think they go slightly over the top with clicking and they'll miss out important micro. He makes 100k a year. WOW
Don't get me wrong but Sky ( "the noob purple " ) is the World Champion of War 3...
why does he click on the peon just before it reaches the town center???
@
Civi1izatoR

@Ferretsroq in the beginning, most pro players are just bored so they just randomly spam to warm up and get their apm up xD
SC is definitly harder then WC in so many ways
Especially is you play HU. Making 10000 towers does take a while.
n1 use of chain lightning, wave and lightning shield ! and the mass clicking is cause he wants to push his apm, i guess
holy fucken shit,he is so much faster and better then i am,but he does need top clik a butten 1000 times
Why does he click like ten times to do each thing when he first starts?
it is not pointless there rally setting at the start is to keep them warm on there apm
Orc towers are really weak defensively. Magic damage or simple focus fire will take them down. However, offensively combined with units they can be strong if you don't scout. Look for an early war mill.
@donydony1231
not really, i believe the reason is you produce the peon like 0.5 sec faster :P
so fast....i love it/him :D
It's nothing impossible! ^^ You just need to learn hotkeys and always use rallies/control groups! I'd love to see their HANDs while they're playing lol
no, it's good for maintaining the apm...
Grubby is my idol number one!!!:D After him comes my brother sein ;P
nice replay :)
@Ferretsroq
I advice you to check out starleague starcraft fpvods. That's pretty insane.
Very nice yet very old. Shams are out its all walkers now. How old is this vid anyway. And concerning the Starcraft vs Warcraft chatter: Starcraft 2 is coming soon and rumour has it grubby intends to hop on, so we will see if he can top the game like he does Warcraft.
its sky, i think.
ever saw sky?
sagem28, it's to warm up your fingers, you try to have as many apm throughout the whole game as possible.
he plays with health bars off? damn
Nonamereal: the Star War event took place in China, so you'd assume Warcraft would be in CHINESE (NOT Korean), right?
You also haven't apparently seen the replay. The replay is dead on with the timing and events in this VOD
AND MOON SAYS GG!!!1111!!!
why does he change the rally point so much?
man u are very good and fast!!!
@JohnOfMs no idea but this vid s pretty old O_O
Really, also the part from 00:30 to around 00:40, and it seems he sets the same rally point five times in a row...
umm..so who won?...i have no idea...i think it was grubby but not sure..
@sonata92 Because it sounded so funny :P
Grubby doesn't play 8 hours a day EVERY day. It started as a hobby for him, he's just skilled.
It's very possible to become pro without playing a retarded amount of hours per day
sc and warcraft needs both more skills than the whole other esportsgame
Thats true! I play both SC and WC and i think wc is much better game because u have to micro all the time.
качество хромает...
Why do they always spam the buildings at start of the game?
