    Hollywood is dying and, while I don't think it will completely collapse, I think that a majority of the big studios will keel over or be forced to downsize to the point they are indistinguishable from what they've been and what we're used to. That said, every ending is a new beginning and I honestly believe that we are on the cusp of a new independent studio/film/creator-centric film renaissance. Everyone I know here who's been on the outside struggling to "make it" or even just survive are going to have their day if they just hang on a while longer... including me.

    I just came back from a trip to Seattle. Most locals there truly believe (or want to believe) that Bigfoot exists somewhere in the Cascade mountains.

      I know my fair share of enthusiasts on this front. I've never been bitten by the bug, but this movie was a blast all the same.

      There is a passionate group of believers in Oklahoma too.
      Not a believer myself, because I am too aware how little unspoiled wilderness there is left for such cryptic to being living in. Maybe the Asian yeti legends, but I don't think that habitat is large enough either.
      I definitely understand why so many walk outs were registered at the film festival when it was debuted. I enjoyed it for what it is, especially that it was made at all.
      The prop was too obviously artificial, but, for safety ethics, I am glad they didn't try to use something else in it's place.
      I don't feel a need to ever watch it again, but I can see it becoming a cult phenomenon, once the audience that love it, get to breathe their appreciation for it, that will keep it in the cultural zeitgeist.

      Looks like it is going into wider release this weekend. Hopefully the flick can find the audience is deserves. We need more movies like this.

    Sounds like you really would appreciate the Swedish movie Border (Gräns), about a strange Neanderthal-like woman who realizes that she is a troll adopted by human parents. The screen-play is based on a short story by John Ajvide Lindqvist, who also wrote the excellent vampire story Let the right one in (Låt den rätte komma in), which was turned into a great Swedish move and an America movie that I've heard is pretty good as well.

    Great review. Well it's in 900 theaters this weekend so hopefully they make a little profit anyway. Riley sings the final song Creatures of Nature, which is on here.

      Cool Indie movies and weird foreign films are what keep this channel going in between all of the bloated mediocrities. Always happy to sing the praises of the cultural oddities out there.

    Disgusting and heartwarming is a really difficult (but magical) tone to achieve, and the trailer definitely did grab me, so I'm very happy to hear the movie lives up to its mission. Thanks again for yet another excellent review!

    Hey, James! Sounds reminiscent of 1981's "Quest For Fire" by Jean-Jacques Annaud and 1988's "Missing Link" by Carol and David Hughes!
    I'm going to have to look up "Sometimes A Great Notion".

    Thanks for the enthusiastic review and you seem to be feeling better. Ari Aster being involved could be promising. BTW, Happiness, from what I remember from a single view, the most ironic movie title, because it was depressing as hell.😊

    • @geekinwithJamesHancock
      @geekinwithJamesHancock  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, Happiness is as dark as dark comedy gets and for the late Nineties, that's saying something. It had lots of healthy competition on that front.

    Saw it tonight based on this review. There's one prop I didn't care for but the movie sure was interesting in a Swiss Army Man sort of way surprised I was even able to see this in a theater.
