Love the Hello Kitty alarm clock!! I think it requires a battery and a plug in because in case the power goes out, your alarm will still go off. I don't think you actually need the battery unless you are worried about the power going out! Plugging it into an outlet will keep it powered.
I used to have a hello kitty alarm clock where she was sitting on a teacup and it had a light-up lemon slice! It was so adorable, you should definitely look into it!

something i really enjoy about your vlogs is that for years i've almost exclusively watched vloggers who were a couple or even many years older than me because that was just who was making that kind of content, but we're actually the same age and it's so much fun to watch your vlogs like we're hanging out

The Hello Kitty Light thing is probably on demo mode there should be a swtich under it to switch it to regular mode then it should stay on. The alarm clock should work when plugged in the battery area should be for backup if the electricity goes out which of course can still power it!

OMG the HK radio clock!!!! I have the same one! I've literally kept it since I was a kid. The clock buttons are really hard to change but you can get it to work!
