"More and more people from different walks of life wants to get into game development..." "They make the characters the people that they know..." Not true. I'm a game dev, I'm latino, and I'm currently designing a character that falls squarely into the sexy teacher archetype from anime, because my choices for that character, writing-wise, calls for that type of design. If game devs want to design characters based on their immediate environment is fine. Using that fact to promote political ideology is not.
Funny that those modern game devs only create insufferable main protags with the same skin color, same facial structures, same hair style, same motivation.
@@sufianramli it's a bit of a stretch to call it a game in a pure sense. It's a visual novel, a plotge with (very) light RPG elements. It's about quantum mechanics.

"Just how you put yourself into story" And that's the issue. These people are so self absorbed that they can't roleplay, they don't know how to do it. No imagination just making a version of themselves. Sometimes I just wanna play a character that is so far removed from myself to see what would happen. But no. Fun is dead, stay in reality.
Here’s what’s funny to me. People who support/defend DEI are people who are outside what gaming is to determine what happens inside cause of two reasons: we didnt need ‘ diversity’ in games before cause no one cares about what skin color the character was. The games had an appropriate audience because of what that game was, gta had everyone so the only way they could make that a problem was to make a big deal about things they don’t understand like culture. Call of duty had white men but playing since bo1 you shouldn’t care about skin color cause characters could die with just a snap because call of duty is a game about warfare. Mortal Kombat has wizards, gods and demons, pretty self explanatory. Main take away is that these DEI activists are nothing more than disingenuous racists and sexists in disguise cause they go based off what they see on someone’s skin and their writing will reflect that.
When I was growing up, I went to a sleepover at a friend's house. We were all big Nintendo fans, so at one point I stuffed my arm into my rolled up sleeping bag and started acting vaguely like Samus (I think I was trying to make a joke or something, but I honestly don't remember). Because I just made my voice deeper for this, they told me Samus is a woman. You wanna know what I did? I said, "Oh" and re-did the bit on the spot, this time raising the pitch of my voice to sound vaguely feminine. I didn't care that she was a woman, or that we never see her face or anything. Hell, when I was told, I essentially corrected myself. It didn't bother me because it wasn't being shoved down my throat. Didn't think I'd ever miss the days when stuff like that was more common knowledge, but here we are. People who don't understand what "in moderation" means once again took a once-good idea, took it WAY too far, and are so high off their own noxious farts that they lose their shit when anyone tries to tell them they've actually gone in a circle back to the territory of terrible ideas. It's become way too common these days...

What Justin says at 6:52 is _literally_ how game journalism used to be. The old PS2 mags and 360 mags I had when I was younger listed off graphics, story, music, gameplay, each with their own 0-10 score, then summed up their view with a total 0-10 score. Other versions included a "Hot or cold" meter (if they were excited or not remotely interested) and a simplified tick/cross system for graphics, story, music and gameplay (tick, it's good. Cross, it sucks) which concluded with a summery of if it was worth your cash. Game Journalism used to be GOOD. But just like game companies, it got fucked along the way.
Why would you NOT want a smoking hot female character in a game? What? Are these people envious of FICTIONAL CHARACTERS looking better than reality? Ooooh, it's about them again, huh? Yeah... Fair enough, it is always about them and never about the product, the customer, etc.
3:18 No, it's not as people got access to more stuff. I'm old enough to have grown up when being called a nerd was derogatory by people like him. We didn't care and played our games anyway. Hearing mention of Rooster Teeth just makes me sad. A great company once upon a time, that slowly died due to stuff like this after they stopped being an independent company. It wasn't a fast death, but in many regards that makes it worse.
@@broden4838 I don't really think any one or two people are to blame, so much as it was their decision to sell to Fullscreen back in the day, which in turn eventually led to them being owned by WB. I doubt that decision was purely any one person's, so much as all of them getting blinded by the prospect of better funding allowing them to do a lot more. The problem is that right away the issues started to arise, such as them changing the "sponsor" status on the site to being "first members", which was very clearly because their new owners didn't want to associate regular site members with "actual" sponsors. It was also around that time that we saw them starting to push to expand their audience and crew members to include more demographics, which is fine at its core but in the process they lost a lot of focus. It also didn't help that as time went on, they lost most of their actual talent here and there between stuff like Monty passing away, founders stepping down, etc. They also started hiring new talent, and in many cases it became apparent they were hiring based more on checkboxes than whether or not the person was skilled. Because of all of that, quality started dropping across the board on both Rooster Teeth and Achievement Hunter, and often times whenever anyone criticized something or someone, they would shift the blame from being "this person isn't talented" to "you just hate them because of their sex/race". Personally, I think there was probably a bad issue of "toxic positivity" behind the scenes, where they became so confident because of their past successes that they thought they couldn't fail, and were unwilling to criticize themselves whenever something wasn't working. I can't entirely speak on how bad it became in the past few years prior to shutting down, as I stopped watching about five years ago, but even back then the quality had been dropping off significantly. What little I have seen since I stopped watching has just reaffirmed my opinion that I got out before it reached its worst levels. I do honestly think a lot of the bad routes they took as time went on were more of a result of the people higher up the chain pushing certain view points, or dictating what was and wasn't worth putting effort into. So many of the decisions after they "sold out" didn't feel like they were made by the same company that had been around prior, and that just got worse as time went on. It was starting even while Burnie and the other founders were still active, and just got worse as they stepped down more and more.
My rebuttal: We'd be talking about the games in general instead of the people making them cringe. Also, there's other news that can be covered in the world of gaming other than DEI, like the shameful state of game ownership, preservation, and the falling stocks of AAA companies. As well as the more optimistic news of the success of overseas and indie development studios. What hubris to assume DEI is that valuable that we'd have NOTHING to rant about without it... There was more than enough already.
And I'd bet that he probably spends more money on his hair than I do on gas per week, yet it still looks like a rat and a crow have been fighting to make a nest of it.
I don't think there is an ulterior motive. I think the writing's on the wall. All plain for everyone to see. They want their cake and eat it too. They want to maintain their access and pander to the readers. And they're upset it's not working... because they destroyed their reputation.
The best form of equity we've seen in my opinion is minimum wage, which has allowed people to support their families and themselves without working themselves to the bone, yet I don't hear any DEI supporters advocating to improve the minimum wage

I guarantee the channels I watch would be far happier praising and criticizing swordplay, talking about comics and characters they actually like, vtuber news, good game reviews.
The worst thing a creator can do is to insert themselves, their views, beliefs and ideologies into the very thing they are creating. Doesn't matter if what you're making is a novel, movie, artwork, game or even in a DnD campaign, self-insertion will cause more harm than good and will be a massive turn off for potential customers, gamers, players, etc.
About IGN: that may be a different writer and an "opinion piece" but there's an important distinction; IGN is a publication that has editors that choose what stories are published.

In any story-heavy game, characters should have thought put into why they look the way they look. Given that most PCs in these games are physically fit young adults, it makes sense for them to have above-average looks.
I've been playing DnD for years, and never have I EVER made a character that is even remotely like me. I want to GET AWAY from reality, not force it into my games. Narcissists need to get out of gaming just as much as DEI needs to.
"it's nothing that's supposed to offend anybody" well, apparently people that pushing their ideology into games offend many people especially people that loves the franchise that they're ruined. so, what's the point of this argument? this is pointless
It's so easy to disprove the accusation that white male gamers just hate diversity in games, all you have to do is point at Mass Effect. Most of the characters in that game aren't even human, you will likely never find a more beloved series with an actual real cast of diverse characters. The problem isn't that characters in games look different than us, it's that these people genuinely cannot write good characters, and special interest groups are pushing these losers into these spaces to write them into games and ruining them. If Veilguard was a flop because their in-house writers and developers were just incompetent and completely out of touch with the writing and pushing their Trans identity into the game, I can accept that and see that. Game is still ass, regardless if it was a genuine effort from their Trans leadership. But every day I wait for the other foot to drop, for an SBI mention. It would absolutely be directly in line with everything we've been seeing.
Level designer for Grimm Eclipse? There was no level design for Grimm Eclipse. Being unfortunate enough to get duped into playing through that game back in the day, it's a series of flat squares where wolf Grimm run at you in waves. For the entire game. In the final bossfight they REALLY pulled out all the stops and added timed floor tiles that switch on and off from hurting if you stand on them. Whoo.
Normally that guy would be correct however Dragon Age is an established series with established lore and a very high level of depth that was ultimately squandered. You can tell immersive stories without being blunt or on the nose like how Itachi Uchiha is an eligory for depression.

They are _Grifters_ _All_ !! Look up the case of Royal British Legion hiring £80000 / year delulu lunatic dei activist instead of it going to help veterans.
Gaming is turning into a big pile of nothing thanks to these grifters
Plenty of indies out there, also huge backlog.
And well, good games from a while ago often have mods to up graphics, if you care about that. (Skyrim is an extreme example, 13 years old, and you can make it very realistic with mods).
@OnlyKaerius what hurts is not this, it's the fact that franchise we grew up with are all getting ruined yk, like cod zombies as a whole for example, completely butchered into nothingness now. It's not only this fake push for DEI, everything changed for the worse

True that Rina. Any game or manga/anime should be completely out of politics. People play games to get out of politics, not be preached at.

These fools think that they are the only source of outrage for the outrage farmers.
"More and more people from different walks of life wants to get into game development..."
"They make the characters the people that they know..."
Not true.
What kind of game is it?
@@sufianramli it's a bit of a stretch to call it a game in a pure sense. It's a visual novel, a plotge with (very) light RPG elements. It's about quantum mechanics.

Bro gaming has been thriving even before DEI was a thing 💀
Sounds like some serious projection on the streamers behalf
Oh definitely
Absolutely
We never need DEI.
Diversity already exist naturally in 90s to early 2010s, nobody complained because it's never forced and appropriate for the setting of the game it have

Uh huh, so you're not a DA fan then. Thanks for the gaslight attempt, too bad you're transparent.
We moved past the "it's not happening" stage to the "it is happening and it's a good thing" stage.
"Just how you put yourself into story"
And that's the issue.
He's probably defending it because he would be nothing without it. Those who defend a bad idea often gain from it.
We need to label genders and body types correctly on games:
Male, Female, Karen, Reddit mod, DEI, Airplane, [...].
"Male"
"Female"
"Fairytale creatures"
Men are from Mars, women are from Venus
Anything else came from Uranus

Then the gaming industry became the biggest entertainment industry in the world, and for no reason what so ever we needed to accept all those people in.

Hearing mention of Rooster Teeth just makes me sad. A great company once upon a time, that slowly died due to stuff like this after they stopped being an independent company. It wasn't a fast death, but in many regards that makes it worse.
Yeah, and some blame Burnie for it, while I blame Miles Luna and Kerry Shawcross, and my biggest fear is that those two will bring down VIZ Media
@@broden4838what is viz media
My rebuttal: We'd be talking about the games in general instead of the people making them cringe. Also, there's other news that can be covered in the world of gaming other than DEI, like the shameful state of game ownership, preservation, and the falling stocks of AAA companies. As well as the more optimistic news of the success of overseas and indie development studios.
What hubris to assume DEI is that valuable that we'd have NOTHING to rant about without it... There was more than enough already.

Yes, we need people to start suing game review journalists over recommending games that turn out to be crappy.
IGN clearly in support of DEI, you talked about Matty a couple weeks ago with his review and how they went after him. Well, he caved and has been glowing positively about Ubisoft and Bioware. After he had been previously saying their games are not great.
Is it money? I don't think so. Philip DeFranco. I used to follow him. He said, "I'm trying to be a journalist that portrays both sides. But I talked with my staff and they convinced me that I have to talk negatively about Trump."

Like its never a review its just an opinion piece.

That dude is not a reliable narrator . The fact that he didn't even consider there is potential to harm with these practices doesn't make me remotely interested on what he has to say. And I recommend to anyone to never listen to anyone who doesn't bring up both points of the argument and demonstrate that they have some idea on what's going on.

1) New crew (No interference with the old crew)
2) Start over from the beginning
3) For the Vol 3 part, just have Yang suffer a broken arm and Pyrrah miraculously survive a bad blow
you can make a game with "ugly women" or something like that and no one will stop you.... but be ready to handle criticism from customers
and dont forget gamedev is a business... and like any business it exists to make money by satisfying needs of customers
At least when they call it out, they have other stuff.. Without DEI most of these people would be nothing
Kinda funny used to be Podcast Beyond on IGN. All of the crew left to form their own channel, Kinda Funny. Later Collin left to form Last Stand Media.
"it's nothing that's supposed to offend anybody"
well, apparently people that pushing their ideology into games offend many people especially people that loves the franchise that they're ruined. so, what's the point of this argument? this is pointless
Game journos are all dishonest shills. I only bother with reviews from individual reviewers who's taste and opinions I trust.
Level designer for Grimm Eclipse? There was no level design for Grimm Eclipse. Being unfortunate enough to get duped into playing through that game back in the day, it's a series of flat squares where wolf Grimm run at you in waves. For the entire game.
