I read Illuminae about a month ago and I feel like I got an amazing experience by Listening to the Audio book while reading the book. It made it this amazing immersivr experience and would 100 percent recommend reading it like this. Its a bit complicated but definiately worth it.
I have the same Sherlock Edition! I just finished A Study of Scarlet!!! Love it, it's awesome for relaxing bedtime reads! Plus the lines are so similar to the show it's impressive and very satisfying!

In 3rd grade we read Hugo and it was great. My teacher would do a headstand and read to us while we read along and she gave us a ton of skittles, I miss it. Hugo is AMAZING though.

I'm sorry but I just need to write another comment after you pull out Sherlock Holmes. I just bought the 1st complete collection of Sherlock Holmes today, which was quite a long wait and I just have a little luck today, and already have the 2nd complete collection months ago. Both books are as thick as yours I believe and they are surprisingly light as well and not as expensive as I thought. I already watch and keep re-watching all the 3 seasons + 1 special episode for Christmas and I'm just obsessed with the show. Fun fact : I was never had any interest with Sherlock Holmes or any detective stories for my entire life until like 1 or 2 years ago when I got the 1st 2 seasons of Sherlock and simply watched 1 episode and I was like "why didn't I watch this earlier?" and since then I'm always obsessed with anything related to Sherlock Holmes and Benedict Cumberbatch. Last month, I started to read the book and finished the first case "A Study in Scarlet". I wish I can continue to read all of his cases soon while waiting for season 4 early next year. :)) And I did buy "Room" by Emma Donoghue, too. ^^
If you love books like Baby Doll, you might like The Never List by Koethi Zan! It's a similar theme as a girl is kidnapped and kept in a cellar for years and its about her life afterwards and figuring out why.
I just wanted to let you know that Brian Selznick is such an amazing author and artist! You will just fall in love with The Invention of Hugo Cabret. When you fall in love with that book, I urge you to pick up his other two novels: Wonderstruck and The Marvels. You will be far from disappointed. I just finished reading all of them and they had me in tears, especially The Marvels. I hope you enjoy them as much I have.
