The instrument was an Indian Sitar a very difficult instrument to play. The gentleman playing it was Brian Jones, the founder of the group who unfortunately died in 1969.

This is the kind of rock music that enchants depite the despairing, very grim lyrical theme

The instrument is The Indian Sitar & was played by the Stones founder member the blonde haired Brian Jones who was a natural multi instrumentalist !

The kids of this era were listening to the lyrics and the tempo. They were denied that by their parental generation. That is why their minds exploded! They had no clue (prior to this) that there is another option.

In rock alot of songs have upbeat music partnered with depressing lyrics

That instrument is a sitar. It originates from India.

Played by multi-instrumentalist and founder of the Rolling Stones Brian Jones. Who was later on pushed aside by Mick and Richard and drowned in his swimmingpool a few months later! At the age of 27... Poor guy!

Loved your reaction! If you want to see another great high energy performance by them check out Satisfaction from their 1990 Tour! th-cam.com/video/TgfBPFk1ZB0/w-d-xo.html - Mick Jagger def got the moves, like always lol. Saw them live this summer and it was wild! Still got it.

Hey to you too, I wanna say something about your reaction on the rolling stones "backstreet girl". Like me, you two thought it was the most beautiful song. English is not my native language, so I didn't know exactly where the song was about . Till one day I heard the lyrics more clearly and girls, what a total lack of respect for woman speaks out of this song!!! The song is about a man who is married and doesn't want his mistress to be asking too much. She just has to be around somewhere in the backstreet and keep quit till he, the paying master, is in the mood to pay her a visit! Litural "pay" her a visit!!! Nice song, worst lyrics!!!

I am sorry life isn't a bed of roses, my dear. It's the Rolling Stones, who were always pushing the envelope on what was socially acceptable. Consequently, they are easily one of the greatest bands of all time, but not without controversy.

@@fuchsiaswing8545 , I know, honey! it's just that the song sounds so nice and romantic, Jagger singing it with a velvet voice. Well, if you finally hear the lyrics wich are quit the opposite, you can be baffled. I was! These two girls are in the stage of only hearing the sweetness of the song. But realising what it is all about can be a bummer... Backstreet girl is one of my favorites and always will be, despite the lyrics.
