Btw. The reason why google maps is off on places in Beijing (and China in general) is because China requires companies to apply a mask to GPS coordinates. The mask automatically adds a random modifier to a locations coordinates and, as a result, you end up with random restaurants in the middle of the forbidden city.

Till 1979 Bejing was called Peking.
“Raise the red lantern” is a beautiful movie in Chinese which won a lot of prizes. Although “The last emperor” was in English, is a fantastic movie made by the famous Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci and won 9 Oscars

0:54 isn't Tokyo significantly more populous? Thanks for the video either way. Beijing is really close to my heart as I had the opportunity of studying there for some time, and I'm always curious to find out more about the city.

The municipality of Beijing is more populous but the Tokyo metropolitan area is significantly more populated

Fun little factoid, the zh sound such as in pleasure doesn't exist in Chinese and most native speakers can hardly pronounce it, which I think makes the western pronunciation of so many places in China to be delightfully ironic
