My issue with most cops is that they refuse to backdown or apologize when they realize they are wrong. As a matter of fact they double down knowing they are wrong, how can I trust someone that's never wrong?

How she pretends to not recognize a burley black man who is known to be the neighborhood pastor, and has no doubt seen him drive the same car everyday, calls the police on him anyway as if she's never seen him in her life is a clear indicator of who she is. I mean this could have turned out very bad based on her sheer ignorance. And yes they could have simply released him after his info was presented, but they had to prove a point
@amsleepy Being agitated isn't a crime. Refusing to show ID on private property that you've been invited to -- also not a crime. There is no legal requirement in the USA to be nice and friendly to police officers. He was agitated, but never violent and did not resist the handcuffs. This is 100% on the cops, not on him.
Yes, the neighbour caused the situation - no doubt. But, if she meant him harm or wanted to cause him trouble, why would she come out and vouch for him to the police? That doesn't add up to me. If she was being malicious, why would she come out to try and protect him? The one and only reason I can think of is to look like a hero (y'know, like the guy who sets a fire then helps the fire brigade put it out). But, if she was trying to look like a hero then why would she admit, in front of the pastor, that she called the police? Doesn't make sense. I'd like to hear from her why she felt the need to call 911 in the first place before judging her, because her later actions don't fit the typical "Karen". Karens act scared and claim they don't know their victim, or claim their victim did something to them - they don't defend POC against the police.

I've never been a big fan of law enforcement until in resent years after seeing all the stupidity they have to deal with. There are a lot of bad apples out there but people in general have this attitude that they don't have to abide buy the law or that everyone else does except for them. It's not just a lack of respect for law enforcement but also towards anyone else in general. Everyone feels like they are being mistreated.
The man wasn't in public he was on private property clearly watering the garden. If you thought he stole the vehicle run his tags I wouldn't have ID either if I went across the street to water someone's yard. However they completely ruin their defense of their actions when her word is good enough and I didn't see them ask her where her ID was. There are dishonest people in this world but it's clear he wasn't doing anything wrong.
@Norah Elaine I agree....I don't know all my neighbors but she sounds like a "Karen" for calling in the first place....But even if she couldn't see WHO he was and was concerned about a burglary, the cops took it to the Rascism level by not accepting his explanation, and hearing the neighbor and still arrested him? They should be fired.
@Norah Elaine I used to work for Neiman Marcus as a sales person. High end department stores would send pictures of criminal gangs who would steal from their stores to other stores so that they would be on the look out. They were always 100% white. Anyway the loss prevention supervisor told me once that white women steal more than white men and all other races combined. So it was always strange to me that when black people would come into the store (especially if they did not look wealthy, whatever that means because the people who had the most didn't flaunt at all. their wives did the shopping) loss prevention would hit the floor and pretend to be shopping. Me and some of the other salesmen would laugh to ourselves and say You know those poorly dressed black people that just walked in or decoys. Not just because they were black but because every picture that I ever saw of the professional thieves that would hit Neiman they were white and they were very well dressed. to send a poorly dressed black person says that they knew that loss prevention was probably racist and stupid.
He’s a retired officer and you can tell he was a good one too. The law is simple. You don’t not have to give ID unless there is reasonable articulable suspicion of a crime. And no. Standing outside watering plants is not a crime unless the property owner calls. You don’t get to ID citizens just because someone else calls to say there’s a man over there watering plants on someone else’s property. This is why we have the 4th amendment.
I was almost arrested for not showing ID on private property. I had to or they were taking me to jail. Apparently, it is the law that you must show ID when asked.
See that's the thing, they want your ID, you say "am I a suspect of a crime?" and they can go "maybe." Ultimately, you don't give them what they want, you're getting arrested or worse. Then you get to "take it to a judge" while they were just "doing their job." Either way, judicial system wins.
@@JALAGA25 only if you are suspected of a crime. They can't just walk up to people on the street and say show me your ID.. it would be a violation of the Fourth amendment

What you and the other not soo bright ppl in the comments don't understand is you dont think of it from the cops perspective. They got a call of someone that's at someone elses property watering their garden. Just because somebody is watering somebody's garden doesn't mean they're innocent. They could be using that as an excuse but their real intention could be to scope the place out to rob. Cops dont know this man knows the owner or he was given permission. Ppl are very closed minded and don't think with an open mind of both sides. All he had to do was show his id and the police would have appologized and that's that.

The pastor is a retired cop?
Yes!

They let him go, they just wrote him a ticket for police obstructing which was later dropped at court.

There is a literal law in Alabama which forces people to identify themselves when the cops asks them to.
And no saying '' I'm the local pastor'', doesn't count as identifying. I know you americans are ''special'', so for your information, identifying yourself means giving your full name and surname.
a peace officer must have reasonable suspicion to justify asking for ID (e.g. he must suspect that you have done or might do something illegal or that you have no right to be in a particular place).
