Great sword by a mile no discussion. Even top players have said so. Funny thing is greatsword beats most weapons if you know the match up and if you have good movement. Blasters seem to be the hardest match up for me. Bow and lance are like 50/50 or 55/45 at worst
Obviously very late but I generally am not great at the game and just play with my friends in private lobbies, but I’m not terrible with great sword, actually one of the easier weapons for me. Blasters on the other hand, hooo boy I can not use those for the life of me.

I haven't played this game in years but my boiling rage for Mordex, my blaster copium as a Thatch main and my core memory of getting absolutely ass pounded by a Mirage using scythe made me very interested in the video

Brotha I agree that you can learn gs combos pretty fast, but that's not learning the weapon. The hard part is using it effektiv in high ranks, actually doing dodge-reads, learn how to put pressure without getting punished (and trust me if you miss one move you will get punished) and learning more strings that just slight light dodge cancell nlight slight slight.
The hard part in using greatsword comes from putting the correct combos to good use, and reading your opponent or baiting out dodges to then do the extended combos with the dash/dodge cancels. And also the fact that greatsword struggles against a lot of matchups (lance, scythe, guns, katars, bow, maybe even more, but these are the worst matchups for greatsword) And another difficult part about greatsword comes from putting your aerials to good use WITHOUT getting the grounded version, while near the ground. Dair on stage is godly if you dont get the grounded version (dair nair is true but very hard, dair sair is kinda easier but not true or less true, dair recovery is an option too. all of these can kill or give plenty of extra damage), and sair even more so (on early hp you get slight as a follow up, otherwise you only get 1 hit from sair). If you get a grounded version of either of these two moves, you will usually just get one hit and maybe a combo out of it, or you will be stuck on the ground waiting to be punished. And grounded nair doesnt really have any proper use, maybe one if you manage to dodge onto stage with nair and slide this way for extra coverage, and thats it. And small sidenote: grounded sair gives you like 3 frames of hitboxes or so, compared to 5 that the aerial gets (if i remember correctly) even more reasons to stay off the ground if you are using aerials.
I’m low plat, so gs is good for me right now But when I fight diamonds I always lose since I main Magyar (gs legend) I am now extremely high gold because 3/10 placement matches go hard when you only fight high plats 1 Valhalla and like 3 diamonds 😃
As a GS main, I can proudly say that i do indeed suck at using it. But its pretty fun swinging a chunk of metal the size of my body, and pummel the living hell out of someone. Also, its ironically a pretty strong weapon to use midair, though i don't want to explain how as I don't want this knowledge to be used against me...
Great sword is really the most polarizing weapon i the game, it is literally the "big sumo wrestler" that other fighting games have but here. It's big, hard to avoid in close quarters, and usually has a stay away from me option that will keep you safe all the way to gold. But once you face people with more than 5 brain cells you have to use so much movement tech and safety options to get a minimal amount of approaches and the only benefit is killing early, you're literally just sitting combo food unless you do everything in your soul to stop yourself from being out through a 2 minute cut scene
Scythe mains are the type of person who keeps the ball to themselves, they are the kids who didn't get enough hugs from their parents hence why they hug the wall and bm so that they can enjoy what little happiness they have before realising his dad haven't came back with the milk, and they are the people who thinks themselves as gifted even though they simply are just another corporate slave. I dont remember if at the time of this video the greatsword sair was buffed, and the consistency of some things was better, but glad to see you at least acknowledging that it isnt just 'hurr durr let me spam this combo and itll just work' like how people think that mashing combos with that thing just works, because spoiler alert, it wont (maybe in lower elos, but in diamond you are bound to see people that KNOW that they can jump out, not dodge at all, or delay their dodge to completely mess you up) And i especially respect that you've put cannon pretty high up. That weapon is both garbage and godlike. (still waiting for a gs cannon legend to happen. itll either be next, or sometime later. we havent had a cannon since onyx 2-3 years ago..., and no gs since arcadia, which isnt much time, but we still only have the initial 4 legends for that weapon)
Yeah this was back when GS air moves weren’t good, so that’s why I said it was bad in the air. Also, GS actually can be played like “hurr durr let me spam this combo” as I’ve gotten to 2100 using only GS (and I don’t know a single thing about GS combos). That being said, once you reach that level, people do know how to jump out and it gets harder. But low diamond is still extremely easy with GS, at least for me

Unless the person has a really bad day, or knows absolutely nothing about the gs matchup But even in lower elos you have the fact that people will try to mash out of your combos. In some cases, effectively mashing out with moves, punishing you for going for combos, or theyll mash out a dodge and never let you score a kill. Its annoying as hell that even the one thing that gs supposedly has, that is supposed to be a 3 hit true combo, isnt even consistent at all (slight dlight dlight). Doesnt kill early but its a mashable 'true' combo, that happens to be really inconsistent. If you get lucky, i guess you can win the entire match doing only that combo
As an 1800 Orion main. I agree with what you said regarding spear and lance. Lance has gotten a tad harder since it lost it's kill confirms, but like you said with the scythe legends, many lance sigs have a lot of force. So it's a minor thing. My only opinion that varies from the video is bow, honestly I think it should be ranked lower than where you put it. I'd put it below orb. As for whether it should be below lance? Idk that's a toss up. Oh wait, I'll just do what you did and let my natural bias say lance is harder. Other than Bow's placement, completely agree with the rankings Great video :)

Whenever I played the game hours on end, I was a *beast* at Bow and Blasters. I would love to do that to people who taunted after a kill, as revenge. I'd just snipe twitch streamers and demolish most. Now I play more Smash and Rhythm games.

Mako has been cycled for free to play for a little while now, and every new player who I've seen play him has only used his katars. They avoid greatsword like the plague. By definition, Greatsword is the hardest to play because in order to complete strings and combos, you need to remember openers, bridges, and finishers that are all variants of the nlight, slight, and nlight.

As a lance player, my perspective is that lance is very easy to pick up and understand but very difficult to be good with. Because most of the attacks are exclusively horizontal you are very limited in your approaches or punishes and you notice it as a huge drawback once you start getting good at the game.
I do agree that Blasters is the hardest weapon (throws are hard af but they aren't a weapon) but i don't agree that scythe is harder than canon (Im a scythe main btw) just compare the blind spots between these two weapons. They cover almost the same area but scythe has bigger hitboxes and is a faster weapon in general. I know you said thats your personal opinion so im just stating mine too lol
As a blasters main, I totally agree. Especially after the recent patch. Recovery got nerfed and all the hitboxes on every move got nerfed so bad. Blasters was already hard, now it’s just unplayable
I’m just like this guy with scythe mains. When I was gonna try scythes for the first time I thought it was going to be a bit hard but it turned out I was naturally good at the weapon.
As someone that is playing this for almost 2 months now and is trying to learn every weapon, i would say katars,boots and sword were the easiest to understand and use due to how straight foward they are, while cannon and hammer are on the opposite end while still being powerful
you can literally gimp people with axe recovery on accident. literally no low rank player try's to gimp someone with axe recovery on purpose, pls nerf hit box 😭😭
ngl scythe is slightly more difficult than blasters. just do to the fact that reading isn't exactly consistent in higher ranked queues. I find that I get most of my strings off when my opponent dodges and then I punish the dodge whenever I can, instead of anticipating one. blasters is a contender for difficulty tho

Here's my personal list, from easiest to hardest Spear Battle boots Bow Lance Unarmed Gauntlets Greatsword Axe Ball Sword Hammer Cannon Scythe Blasters Btw: I play a large scope of characters and even try out others just for fun quite often, its likely that some weapons just resonate with me while others don't but this feels to me like a good list of how difficult weapons are to play.
I understand it’s your opinion but I’m guessing you’re gold- low plat if you think greatsword is that low also battle boots is a little easy but it’s a string weapon that you need to read with, the rest of the list isn’t too accurate either but respectable
Greatsword is probably one of the best air weapons only based on Sair alone, it has wayyy too much damage for its own good, and it leads into some good combos if you can chase dodge the opponent

I main Greatsword but honestly i don't even think it's the HARDEST weapon to use. By no means is it easy to use but i do think Canon and Hammer are just a bit harder. I literally only use like 5 weapons so maybe that's why it's hard for me. Also the easiest weapon is definitely lance, scythe, or axe.
i spent at least 100 hours in practice mode to become a gs main and everytime you get the frames of bridge strings right bmg is gonna nerf some bridge and make you learn it all again i miss Slight Dair Slight Nlight it used to look so cool man.
for the longest time i tought canon was the worst weapon, but recently i though "artemis and hattori are getting boring 🥱" so then i picked up sidra and now canon is a deadly weapon i personally feel that i can destroy people better than lance!

That isn’t what makes it hard at all. It’s the fact that it’s such a slow weapon that is almost forced to play grounded.
No. Good players just use the same bridge and finishers every time. There’s no really any reason to use any bridge but the optimal ones

Because most of the attacks are exclusively horizontal you are very limited in your approaches or punishes and you notice it as a huge drawback once you start getting good at the game.
I do agree that Blasters is the hardest weapon (throws are hard af but they aren't a weapon) but i don't agree that scythe is harder than canon (Im a scythe main btw) just compare the blind spots between these two weapons. They cover almost the same area but scythe has bigger hitboxes and is a faster weapon in general. I know you said thats your personal opinion so im just stating mine too lol
As a blasters main, I totally agree. Especially after the recent patch. Recovery got nerfed and all the hitboxes on every move got nerfed so bad. Blasters was already hard, now it’s just unplayable

I’m just like this guy with scythe mains. When I was gonna try scythes for the first time I thought it was going to be a bit hard but it turned out I was naturally good at the weapon.
As an orion main that DOESNT spam, lance is not AT ALL hard to use. i know how to play every weapon except hammer.

As someone that is playing this for almost 2 months now and is trying to learn every weapon, i would say katars,boots and sword were the easiest to understand and use due to how straight foward they are, while cannon and hammer are on the opposite end while still being powerful

you can actually combo d-light into ground pound with bow, to read a spot dodge. Good if they’re off stage after the d-light.

ngl scythe is slightly more difficult than blasters. just do to the fact that reading isn't exactly consistent in higher ranked queues. I find that I get most of my strings off when my opponent dodges and then I punish the dodge whenever I can, instead of anticipating one. blasters is a contender for difficulty tho

Volkov is easily my main legend because of his connection to an extrelmy easy and hard combo with his weapons. Plus u can’t spam with him u need to be strategic which is what I love
Cannon and GS by far are the hardest, I have been playing random for a long time now, and while after a while I picked up GS a bit but holy shit is cannon the weirdest weapon

Greatsword is probably one of the best air weapons only based on Sair alone, it has wayyy too much damage for its own good, and it leads into some good combos if you can chase dodge the opponent

I main Greatsword but honestly i don't even think it's the HARDEST weapon to use. By no means is it easy to use but i do think Canon and Hammer are just a bit harder. I literally only use like 5 weapons so maybe that's why it's hard for me.
Also the easiest weapon is definitely lance, scythe, or axe.
I would say that the easiet weapon are battle boots, you can do combos just smashing 2 buttons, nothing can be eaiser than that

The video is pretty old at this point but I cannot agree more. They have way too many basically true combos which are really hard to avoid but as SOON as they will get nerfed nobody will play them anymore and I am 100% sure of it.
