After following your last video speaking about this I followed your remedy of applying Scott’s disease Ex along with spot treatment with the Bioadvanced fungus lawn treatment. I now have the greenest lawn on the street. Thanks so much
Good Sunday afternoon everyone... I'm in Jax FL and upper 90's with excessive humidity and rain everyday...I battle fungus every year with minimal success but lawn always comes thru because of proper mowing and Allan Haynes awesomes advice and tips!!!..this spring after fertilizer added 50lbs of cut corn for 8$ from tractor supply..Best my floratam St. Augustine grass has ever looked!!..disease is still present but grass is lush and green with good fungus winning..The science behind it is the cut corn attracts the good fungus and improves the soil structure...just letting everyone know what worked for me..thank you for all your videos Mr. Haynes!..you rock and roll🤣
This year has probably been the best for diseases for me in the Chicago area for some reason! Lawn is looking green and happy. Thanks for all your help through out the years Allyn! Congrats on the new podcast! Didn’t know about the extension office will definitely check that out!
Dang was hoping this was for Warm Season. Look forward to seeing that. I have put down two groups of fungicides but taking a while to recover even though the saint augustine grows fast.
I got the Pythium. It has been an emotional week. lol. Thanks for the video Allyn, Matt's videos definitely helped. Waiting for the Super Maxx to kick in.
Yep, over by New Jersey dere, my neighbor has dollar spot. He mows Ttf 2in, fertilizes heavy, water every other day. I’m fortunate to receive his bounty of clippings and edging blown entirely on my side.
I had to throw down some Scott’s disease x twice. Also, propiconazole and heritage! The propiconazole did an amazing job knocking back the fungus and the heritage has been keeping it away! I highly recommend those 2! I got these 2 product ideas from your old videos. I’m here in New Orleans where the humidity and rain is constant!
Xzemplar is by far the best fungicide for dollar spot for homeowners. It's better than Propiconazole and it's a group 7 fungicide so there's no heat restriction or growth regulation with it. It's more expensive, $150, but it comes with enough to treat an acre. If you only have 6000-7000 square feet, it'll last several years. It's also very good for brown patch.
This video was a HUGE help. Just getting into lawn care and honestly thought I had spiders all over my lawn. I do have a question... I was going to use DiseaseEx for my dollar spot issue but thankfully your video made it clear that was the wrong stuff. I ended up going with the BioAdvanced Fungus Control which has the same active ingredient (Propiconazole). It's been 7 days and the stuff seems to be working. I had it pretty bad so I assume I'll need to wait for it to grow out before the spots (patches) completely disappear. I followed the directions on the bag and laid down a "Curative' amount. Finally my question: You mention another application in 14 days. Should this also be at the curative rate or just preventative rate?
Sometimes synthetic fertilizer that has not been watered in deep enough seems to give the same effect. Chemical analysis of the grass sample may verify this. I have problems with synthetic fertilizers. I have moved away from them more and more. Organics seem to not give these problems where you have to spend more and more money buying products to fix the problem their products caused. I personally think their products should either be in smaller media. Or just liquid form.
Great video Allyn. I think my primary issue is heat and drought. My lawn is KBG sod that was put down on a clay soil with nothing added to it. I'm getting some tan areas but I keep watering anyway. Wondering if I should throw down some Milorganite in its current condition.
if you are mowing at least every 7-10 days then you can apply a light application of Milo. If you are dormant then you should wait until the lawn wakes back up heading into fall.
Best thing to do with these diseases is to start putting a preventative down when it starts getting hot out. Also have to watch how you water your lawn. Gotta look at your lawn. See if it needs water. Just dont go ahead and water every day. Also if you do water, try and water early in the day. Dont push high nitrogen in july and August. Use the milo, supplement with some liquid iron. Your lawn will stay green.
I put down scotts turb builder 32-0-4 on labor day just bought this house in June. I been watching you and just bought milorganite . I've having heat stress but its getting cool now here in Massachusetts. My lawn is 10,000 sqft total, should I put down milorganite as well for the slow release. Or what you think 😁
I'm aerating and overfseeding here in fall Tulsa. I have a perennial rye sunny yard, and a fescue, bluegrass for my shaded front. I was told the 2 don't mix. Should I add my fescue-bluegrass seed to my fescue?
Love the video, still in the 70’s consistently here in PNW with occasional day of light rain and day or two in the 80’s here and there (guessing still susceptible to dollar spot). Have you done a video on pink patch vs red thread? Feel like I get some pink patch n the spring each year with how wet our spring is. Hey know Nitrogen is best way to just grow through it but are there any preventative measures to be done? (Good nitrogen fert application pre-winter or first application in fall? Higher K application?
8:20 Another confusing point. My lawn pro said Syngenta Banner Maxx II Propiconazole Fungicide would not do me any good once dollar spot was noticeable. He claimed it was a SYSTEMIC fungicide.
I have used hydretain and in im san Antonio. I can see my grass is not as dry or brown as I usually do and i just hand water every 2 or 3 day seeing we are in water restrictions. My question is I have the app and got the download but do you have a time lime in a video or article that says or guides when to start with what and when? Trying to load up on products and start following you suggestions starting in fall fully.
My cool season lawn is suffering from yellowing and curling blades in a few areas. This has just begun to occur in late November. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The affected turf is at the rear and side of my home which is heavily shaded. I’ve also notice algae on the surface of the soil in thin areas in the affected areas. My front lawn is just a beautiful and dark green as it has ever been.
Weird question and not sure if you covered it. But laid new grass seed and everything is coming in nicely for the most part. But everything I’ve been watching says water the yard 4-6 inches deep for a good root. How do I know if I’m watering that deep? Or how do I go about to it water that deep?
And if it’s dry just keep watering til it gets to that depth I’m assuming? And how often should I be watering to get it there if it isn’t? I live in South Georgia. Doesn’t know if that makes a difference or not
I have tall fescue, noticed brown spots on May, i tried mix of Scotts and bio advanced but it is not stopping it. It reduced a little bit but still have those spots. Do you think those are dollar spots? I will try to look at the leaves tomorrow. Those spots now look like color of hay! Any help appreciated.
I’m really struggling this year with both crab grass and fungus I also had grubs but took care of that. Anyways. You notice the crab grass and other weeds never are affected by this stuff
What’s something good I can spray here in hot humid southern Indiana for crab grass and clover? I had it looking good and then we got pretty saturated and it all just started taking over.
usually you will want to leave it on the lawn for a few hours without watering but each formulation will vary slightly - the label will have the right instructions for you for sure.,
Okay, I live in Middle TN, a transition zone. I have tall fescue but really love palmetto St Augustine. Is it safe to plant Palmetto here and do i need to kill off all of my fescue, or would plugs just take over the fescue?
Heck yeah my salad bar aint got any pythium. Last week was brutal in the 61350 10 straight days 90's with no rain. seems my zoysia plugs just love it, fescue not so much
Pythium is the worst. We get here in NJ June usually when it wet and humid. I have resorted to preventing it by spraying mefenoxam early in June. Didn't get it this year when neighbors had some. I do the same with PPZ to prevent red thread in April and May.
Fellow Jersey resident here. Dollar Spot is running rampant in Middlesex county. I hit the yard with a light dose of nitrogen to encourage it to grow out, but I think our temps have just been too hot to grow the problem away. I do have some Prop ready to go, but I'm trying to avoid spraying it. I will likely (and reluctantly) run a preventative rate next year starting around Memorial day.
Mr. Meeseeks yea the humidity has caused major disease pressure this year. It’s been the perfect environment for fungus issues. I don’t remember it being this bad in past years.
Great video Allyn I put down Scott's disease EX on July 2nd I plan on doing an app of propiconazole and imidacloprid this upcoming weekend my question is do I water in right away or how long should I wait to water in thank you for your time
@@shane6002 The Scott's disease EX is Azoxystrobin which is a systemic with upward mobility and should be watered in between 1/8-1/4 inch. The roots will take it in and it will travel upward through the plant to cover the crown and leaves. Disease EX is also a granular and should always be lightly watered in. Propiconazole is also systemic and will do the same thing but if you're just treating for dollar spot or rust, then it's fine to leave it on the leaf to dry as those are both foliar diseases. Be careful with Propiconazole though as it can be rough on the turf and shouldn't be applied when temps are 85 or above.
Allyn in the fall I will need to aerate and over seed as I ended up with both dollar spot and pythium tracked back to now now dismissed lawn care company. In the northeast is is possible to aerate and over seed twice? If so how many weeks in between? Thinking a late August then late Sept
I would not recommend that because the first seeding and second seeding will fight for space and some will die out the following spring. Just do a good overseeding in early Sept - follow the recos on the seed you buy and you will be all good. Then the next spring you hit it hard with fert and let it thicken up from there.
Best type of grass to grow in heavy shade? I live in metro Atlanta and have almost no grass in my yard because I have 25 trees (on less than 1 acre). I can't afford to remove 20 trees unfortunately, is there anything I can do? Where should I start?
Checkout Emerald Zoysia. Among the more shade tolerant warm season grasses. Empire Zoysia is another popular cultivar of zoysia and is shade tolerant compared to Bermuda but I think Emerald is a little more shade tolerant and is beautiful thin blade grass that can very dark green.
