    Now that's crazy! Instead of plopping the heatsink on top you can use a socked 370 Heatsink too, since they clip on to the socket. Great work as always

    • @lamerekeklerek
      @lamerekeklerek 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I wouldn't recommend that - first he would need to secure socket as right now whole heatsink would be hanging on pinpads and that is really bad as they can easily be ripped out of the motherboard, but yeah with some aditional bracket to secure this mode in place then it should be possible

      @@tezcanaslan2877Really? Considering that the last two console generations from Sony and Microsoft have been x86 AMD SoCs, albeit with unified bespoke memory, I wouldn't be too off to call anything not made by Nintendo since 2013 a PC. There are even videos where there's cut-down Xbox One SoCs on actual ATX motherboards.
      But the OG Xbox really stands out in that era for being a glorified off the shelf PC in a world of custom silicon.

      @@EbonySaints The difference is that unlike those, OG Xbox retains it’s upgradeability to some extent (RAM can also be upgraded in addition to CPU)

    Awesome that someone actually did the socket 370 mod instead of directly soldering the CPU to the board. Tbh this is a much better mod than the latter because these CPUs aren't being made anymore, and I don't really like when parts that aren't in production anymore get irreversible modifications. ESPECIALLY the 1.4 GHz CPUs.

  • @lronMan88
    @lronMan88 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

    Awesome, you did it, so cool to see that its working so perfect. Nice that you showed my comment 😅 For myself i created an Adapter for the CPU cooler to not install it on the Socket 370, to avoid to much force to the pins of the socket of the interposer when you remove or install the cooler. For an Adapter you can use the original holes on the Mainboard of the Xbox :)

    • @JohnDoe-ip3oq
      @JohnDoe-ip3oq 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You can't do it without drivers, and 256 isn't a good amount for XP. Maybe you can run DOS box, or Linux, but not Windows. Also, even Linux has moved past being usable with low RAM. The Xbox is a console, not a PC, and must be treated as such. If you want a Pentium 3 Windows PC, simply buy a real Pentium 3 PC. Or Pentium 4. The best retro system is ultimately the first gen oldest 1.4ghz Pentium 4 with single channel SDRAM, and pair it with the Nvidia FX 5200 MX just like everyone did in the old days, and pretend your absolute potato dumpster fire is actually usable, everyone knows brand name stickers add horsepower to 4 cylinder beaters with cherry bomb exhaust. Totally better than any Athlon and Radeon 9800. PS, if you think I'm kidding, this behavior has persisted into melting Intel CPUs and 8gb VRAM Nvidia cards, and those people still think it was a good decision, plus are now the majority. Anyway, don't bother installing windows, because even if it worked, it wouldn't be a good experience. My 2c.

    Installing a socket is a game changer because you can buy cheaper 370 tualatin processors to begin like Celerons tualatins (way cheaper and almost same performance) that had same performance as P3 because they had not restrited cache, or like the 1.26ghz pentium3 that is cheaper than the 1.4ghz and then someday change to 1.4-1.5
    Got my 1.3ghz 370 tualatin Celeron for 30 bucks... when the 1.48ghz costs 200$... but im stuck with the interposer install, can you reball mine? 😅

    Great video 👍
    If you want a bit of a challenge then i have a few suggestions
    There is, for example, the portable wii (G-Boy)
    Kits are not in stock (as far as I know)
    But as far as I know it is an open source project
    You could also try a zero fuse and jtag 360 mod
    You could also install a modchip in a ps2, even Voultar says it's mega demanding in terms of solder skills
    But what I personally most want to see
    Is an upgrade of the wii nand
    I don't even know if that's possible
    But in theory it should be simple, softmod then backup and then use a nand flasher to recreate that on a chip with more storage
    know there are people out there doing it with everything from Wii U to macbooks
    Dosdude 1 has quite a few videos about it (on macs)
    You've got a new subscriber
    Hope to see more from you
    Sincerely, Tobias

    I feel like the stress of messing with CPUs and adding the heatsink over time might break the solder joints on the long ass legs that connect to the interposer. Something about how the socket is sitting so high on those legs bothers me. I'm sure it works great, but I wonder for how long. It would be a serious pain in the ass to clip them all short and make sure they are perfectly level to make a solid connection, though.

    • @Nighterlev
      @Nighterlev 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      256MB RAM won't really give any performance gains, it'll primarily help out emulators. Game wise not so much as most games on the OG Xbox don't even max out the 128MB mod. Some do, but most don't.
      The 1.4GHz CPU MOD will give pretty big performance boost in quite a lot of games.
