To all the comments talking about how this should have been about the dark side of the Philippines, that’s completely unnecessary. What will we gain from mocking our own country and pointing out our flaws as a nation. The Philippines is not perfect by any means but neither is any country, we have problems and corruption but what good does it do to spread that negativity? We as Filipinos have always been known for our hospitality whether it is in our homes or in our country, we have our own issues but yet we still try to shield outsiders and tourist from it, why? Because we want them to enjoy and think of the Philippines as a paradise. This video isn’t made to protest the violent acts happening like the original song this was meant to highlight our couture and show that we might not be the richest nation but our people are happy and that’s what counts. I know this is just a parody and I’m in no position to tell Mikey how to make his videos, but honestly I expected more from this.
What made the original “This is America” such a masterpiece was that while on the surface it was all fun and delightful(as seen from the smiles and the dancing to the happy music), it showcased the the other side of America(the real America) where problems of gun violence, consumerism, and racial suppression still remains. It showed us that we the people, despite being aware of such problems, choose to look away and focus on the good happy stuff, instead of facing the ongoing issues in our current society.
Not only that this video contradicts the whole message of the original, it is clearly a missed opportunity. It could have spread awareness to millions, but instead ended up as a typical narcissistic, self praising Filipino video.

Hey Hi This is just a small note from someone who was born in the Philippines and have been living here for my many 18 years,It's not as Fun and friendly as you might think.
Not only is the drug problem still a main problem but there's also the amount of Human trafficking,Car crashes,Children and Animal abuses as well as Racism.
We aren't a big safe heaven as what people Normally think,not it's not saying every country doesn't have the same problem's but we all have to remember that while yes everyone gets treated Nicely when being in different countries you also have to be reminded that nothing is as good as it seem's,We sugar coat things just to keep the whole "it's more fun in the Philippines" Brand.

You put a lot of effort in this and I appreciate that you do this videos and show the world philippine culture, but using this song for a parody feels wrong. The original song makes an important statement for all colored people. This was a missed chance to not only show the positive sides of the Philippines, but also the huge problems Philippines is dealing with. It's not only fun in the Philippines and we all know it.

"This is America" is a testament to the glorification of the oppressed other, in any culture. Maybe the guy feels like an other in his own culture, if he doesn't agree with the politics but cant say so out loud. So it's a parody of the song and a parody of all cultures that pretend to promote freedom, while keeping people down.
It is wrong. I love him he is an great artist, but using this song of all songs of 2018 was the worst decision he could have done.
