@@kevindunlap5525 no that dried pulp is like gasoline, and it only takes a couple hour shut down for it to dry out and be set on fire by a spark. i have seen this happen around 10 times in 15 years it usually demos the entire multi million dollar paper machine

I used to deliver truckloads of baled waste paper to the Smurfit Kappa cardboard plant in Forney, TX, on a regular basis. It looks a lot like the facility in this video, and it does essentially the same thing.

even in the USA...corroboard is hardly ever made at the "cardboard" plant...the craft paper rolls are usually sent to another manufacturer and corroboard is made from that...a rather boring process involving a machine line that can fit in a school gymnasium.

We can see a lots of plastic mixed in it, the recycled cardboard is tainted with plastic fibers after many reprocessing. Can be strenghten the board for some applications, but can pollute environment at the end.
Are the final bundles sent to another factory to make actual cardboard for boxes? Those bundles appear to be just heavy paper that is not strong enough to hold heavy items.
Subtitles with some additional information would be nice. I get the basics but I already understood the basics. This facility appear to use a LOT of water.

Obviously this mill isn’t in the U.S, but in the states there are a lot more safety measures like at 9:40 when he feeds the sheet into the press we don’t do that with our bare hands that’s a good way to loose the hand and arm. And the state of those dryer cans looks like they haven’t ever been cleaned ever which should get done one a week or at least whenever you shut down,and inspected by an outside company at least once a year for cracks and the like. Those cans have a bunch of steam in them and will explode of not taken care of. But yeah this video is a good example of how it’s made. It’s dirty, wet and hot as hell in there, but pays a good wage at least in the states.

It looks like the waste paper has been sorted before delivery as these is very little styrofoam in the sheet. A lot of board grades are still make on this type of former in North America and Europe. Cylinder moulds make a very strong CD-MD sheet, but heavy pressing and Calendering is required to consolidate the sheet and put a good surface finish on the sheet. Threading the Calender using an air hose would be a lot safer for the operator. Putting a small press in around the 30% moisture would really improve the sheet smoothness without the reduction in bulk. Not a bad looking sheet considering the furnish. Skills Panda please excuse my comments but I used to troubleshoot these types on machines in Canada and USA as part of my job.

I wonder if the cardboard is sourced by curbside recycling, hand picked at landfills by uneducated and impoverished people for some compensation, or a combination of both. Glad to see that people can find employment even if we in America can not conceive of doing similar work.

This is not printing but craft manufacturing. A starch is used to bin the slurry which is big business in itself.

It's amazing how that paper pulp gets everywhere, even in the most remote corners of the factory.
And they never really have to clean it up. If any of the pulp happens to get wet again, it will just fall into the mix. Cool factory.

I assumed by cardboard they meant corrugated cardboard. What they're producing is paperboard by re-cycling waste cardboard.

It looks like the waste paper has been sorted before delivery as these is very little styrofoam in the sheet.
A lot of board grades are still make on this type of former in North America and Europe. Cylinder moulds make a very strong CD-MD sheet, but heavy pressing and Calendering is required to consolidate the sheet and put a good surface finish on the sheet.
Threading the Calender using an air hose would be a lot safer for the operator.
Putting a small press in around the 30% moisture would really improve the sheet smoothness without the reduction in bulk.
Not a bad looking sheet considering the furnish.
Skills Panda please excuse my comments but I used to troubleshoot these types on machines in Canada and USA as part of my job.

I wonder if the cardboard is sourced by curbside recycling, hand picked at landfills by uneducated and impoverished people for some compensation, or a combination of both. Glad to see that people can find employment even if we in America can not conceive of doing similar work.
