    Starting out really thin, as you did, will allow you to get away with going below a 90 degree angle with your arms while doing push ups and dips. Anyone carrying much weight will impinge and damage their shoulders... I found that out the hard way. Being an athlete most of my life, I was doing dozens of push ups before I joined the military. I always did them with my elbows out and touching my chest to the floor. After brain injuries caused me to stop exercising for over ten years, I found myself tipping the scales at 290 lbs. I finally got to the point where I could exercise again and discovered that I couldn't do a single pushup. I started doing them from my knees and worked up to where I could do three sets of 10 strict/perfect push ups. The only problem was that my shoulders hurt like h*ll! I went to the best orthopedist in the Washington DC region, and he immediately pegged my problem and sent me to physical therapy. It took nearly six months, but I am once again able to do three sets of 10 push ups. I now keep my elbows closer to my body (which admittedly allows your lats to help) and do not go lower than 90 degrees. Because I am an active martial artist I go slow down and hold, then explode upward and hold. I am working hard on my shoulders now that they have recovered, but will stick with my new standard for strict push ups.
    So my point is that if you are carrying as little bodyweight as you are in this video, then your shoulders will probably be OK. If you are heavier, then I have discovered that you need to take care of your form and not exceed 90 degree arm bending.

      +Jaime Lannister Theres a way to do everything. I use trees, they work just like bars and if they have branches right next to each other you can do dips too. some trees with thicker branches force you to use more grip strength. you can even do pull ups on the edge of a roof if you can find a short enough house.

    • @DivineAtheistWannabe

      At your local supermarket parking lot you can use the trolley parking bay for parallel bars for dips. Your country must have those. It's a free gym right there. Or you can find them on playgrounds sometimes on bridges that kids walk across.
      Or heck, do some dips on some counter tops. Or just grab a couple of stools and do it on them. Buy some pushup bars real cheap if you don't like to do it on a flat surface.
      As for things to do pullups on, they are everywhere.

    This guy is right on with his training. Explosiveness of movement should only be used once a solid base of strength is achieved. You build that base by doing the reps slowly. This forces your muscles to recruit every available muscle fiber in that muscle so that when you need to lift really heavy you have the mind muscle connection to simultaneously recruit every muscle fiber in that muscle group and lift really big weights. Thanks for the video man. Very helpful.

    Note on doing dips: If you lean forward when doing dips, it hits the chest even more. You can even have a friend hold your feet so you are even more horizontal, so you hit the chest even more. You said go all the way down. I don't do that, because it it adds more strain on your shoulders, just like when you go all the way down to your chest when doing bench press. It's better to put a bit more weight on, and staying a bit alove your chest. That's what I think anyways! :) Good vid!

    I agree with a mediocre pace exercise. The exercises you did were too long but the ones you did in the beginning were too fast. I like medium pace. Too slow is for bodybuilders who just wanna see the muscle growth and make sure they're hitting the muscles for longer time under tension too. Too fast is more for explosive movements, for athletes who play sports. To really dominate their body weight and generate enough power. But a medium pace is a sweet blend between the both. And you're going wayyyyy too low on those dips man. That will fuck your shoulders up. I was doing it like that in beginning when I first started. I noticed shoulder and elbow pain. Shoulder pain was expected but I was surprised by the elbow pain! I understand when you're a kid injuries are way less likely. However, that will bite you in the ass 10yrs from now.

      image498 The young man in the video isn't comparing himself to weightlifters or gymnasts, I don't know why you started a comparison. This is a TUTORIAL video, not a "Oh look at my muscles!" thing. I found this to be very helpful, one often forgets the results of proper range of motion in exercises and opts to go for higher reps.

    Dips (as do push ups) hit numerous muscles in your chest, shoulder and triceps area. The muscles you train vary on hand and elbow positioning (as he also mentioned). This guy is o.k. and legit as far as training advice goes, which can not be said 'bout you, fellow man.

    Question, 4 sets of 12? What do you recommend for the pushup workout?

  • @raencarve4
    @raencarve4 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The way I feel a better contraction of my chest muscles is separating my hands to the point that when I go down, my arms forms a 90 degrees angle in my elbows and trying to push my hands like if to close them each other. Feels really good. Greetings

  • @Mangelaar
    @Mangelaar 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The most important thing with pushups is,.. don't lock your elbows and try to sqeeze your chest when in top position ( really exaggerate the sqeeze and hold it for a sec ). Do 5 5 5 pushups. Alot of time under tension results in great results. Also depends on the goals ofcourse. But for muscle gaining time under tension is key. Thanks for your upload bro. Peace !

    If it doesn't make your situation worse then sure but focus on strengthening your core as a priority and in your daily activities put your focus and effort on keeping your back straight whenever you bend down. Using your muscles to keep your back straight while bending down even for simple tasks might be an annoying task but it's well worth it if you keep at it.

  • @savagemaestro

    Consistently doing body weight exercises (pushups, crunches, pull ups) and maintaining a high protein, low carb diet and the results are actually surprising. Even if you can only start with ONE OR TWO REPS PER SET you'll be strong enough within a couple DAYS to do three to five, and so on. Also, Try the "Perfect Pushup" (discs). Much more effective, works more groups without the strain on your wrists.

    A tip for the dips: lean a little bit to the front when doing them because that makes it more concentrated on the chest rather than the tricep
