Wicked! I am about to embark on making 3 foot horns and this technique looks really cool. For Canadians reading this comment the foam used here is $17 at Home Depot
It's unfortunate someone felt the need to give this video a thumbs down. Allen takes significant time out of his life to inspire creativity for the rest of us, purely out of the kindness of his huge heart. To quote Bugs Bunny,"What a MAROON!"
+missinjack12 Thats very kind, I try not to let the thumbs downs get to me, the issue is I never know why I get them. it could be as simple as they wish it were in Portuguese.
Just as a thought for any UK people, there have been references to paper clay in some videos and I've tried to source it but nothing came close to describing what I wanted. Turns out I already have some as DAS clay is a paper clay! Available from Hobbycraft, Amazon and The Range that I know of and doesn't cost much for a 500g pack.
Thumbs UP! Great video as always. I did check around our Home Depot several times and even asked the last time and got looked at like I was from Mars when I asked if they carried the foam used to set fence posts. LOL That Tyvek is so cool especially since you can weld it together! Have a very Merry Christmas and a great new year! I hope you keep making these videos next year too.
Excellent as always. I've been wanting to make an "evil" goat type mask for next years haunt where I live. All the vids you make are very well explained and easy to do. Thanks for the vids!
This is AWESOME. I've been making papier mache horns for years, and it is SO time consuming (though non-toxic) I am going to get some of this stuff today. Hope they still carry it in Canada! THANK YOU. :)
These are awesome man! I will most definitely make some horns and a mask eventually and totally credit and link back to you. Great tips and videos again.
Haven't managed to find the mix yet. We don't have Home Depot or Lowes, just B&Q, Homebase and Wickes. All they sell is concrete, or foam in a can for walls but I'm sure we did have it here a few years ago but was discontinued because it didn't work as they said it would for setting posts? Hope you've had a good Christmas and I wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year! Thank you for all you do and for being such an inspiration.
I love your tutorials man! Please keep it up, you've taught me so much already! Thank you :) I'm the poster boy for never being too old to learn new things LOL
This is awesome! I’ve been looking for tutorials on light weight horns for my Krampus cosplay I’m working on and this method is perfect for the horns I want to make.
Great job mate! Well done and many thanks for all the great videos this year. Looking forward to next year to see what it will bring. Have a Happy Christmas and a very Happy New Year too.
hey, I've never worked with foam before and I have some questions. I want to make horns but more detailed version. If i sculpt them in some wed clay, then make z mold from plaster bandages can I fill it up with the foam? I mean will the foam release from the plaster or do i need to use some kind of releasing agent? Also is there any chance to stick foam horns to the skin? Will the pros-aide do the job? I would really like to have them coming out of my forehead. I will also have 2 forehead latex prosthetics, something like raised skin in a ring shape around the horns. Hope it will keep them in place.
+Edyta Szarfemberg One of the rules of molding is that if you want a rigid final product then you cast in a flexible mold. This foam is OK for this task but it would not release well from plaster. The more detail the worse it will be. Id make a silicone mold and use a lighter weight foam from an FX supply company. I dont know whats in this foam so I dont want it glued to your skin for any length of time.
+StiltbeastStudios thank you! i was planning to make them out of polyurethane foam which i know is safe for the skin. silicone mold is unfortunately over my budget for now. I was also thinking about casting them in liquid latex to get a medium thick skin and then filling them with some cotton so they don't loose their shape but still be light weight. what do you think about that?
+Brittanis LARP cover the whole arm in masking tape, cut it free, tpe it back up then foam fill. Masking tape or Clear packing tape. look at my clear tape bodies video.
Thanks for sparking the imagination yet again, Allen. Have you by chance used PVA glue, mixed with joint compound as a "skin" to reinforce foam? I'm convinced you're BeastMan/Wolfman/Captain America, and the Mrs. is Wonder Woman/Xena Warrior Princess! Happy Holidays to the Hopps House!
Great stuff as usual... I pretty much follow only you. Some day I will put up some new work so you can check it out.BTW I love things with feathers claws and teeth.... of course Horns!Erik
FYI, for those North of TN. Mennards also carries a version of the two part post setting foam. Same price and volume when I last checked.
As always...thanks for the great tutorial on making great props on the cheap. Even my wife commented on how resourceful you are. Thanks.
+Dave Nacrelli thanks for commenting, glad you liked the video!

+spankygrant at 3ft long you might want to put a support structure in them

Very cool . That foam is going to be number one on my projects. thank you for letting us all know about it.
+allexx123 It is a neat product for sure.

That is awsome! Using Tyvek like that reminds me of the garbage bag video on SWSCA, so many applications. That foam is great to. Yah! Home Depot.
+Michael J. Laseter Yeah that is a great video!
Gonna get me some tyvek! Very excited about this technique. Thanks!
+Fran Gish most new construction has big cut off sheets that they throw away, or you could always buy some new from Home Depot
These are awesome man! I will most definitely make some horns and a mask eventually and totally credit and link back to you. Great tips and videos again.
+World of MONSTERS I will make sure you see my Minotaur pics when its done!
StiltbeastStudios Can't wait! Not enough Minotaurs on the streets these days!

+Brian Saunders good, Go make stuff!
so simple & yet so elegant. you could totally use this technique to help make muscle suites as well!
I love your channel! You have a lot of easy to find products and are a lot of money.
+Make-Up Exazy hopefully you meant not a lot of money lol.
That's what I meant; I think faster than I type.
This is awesome! I’ve been looking for tutorials on light weight horns for my Krampus cosplay I’m working on and this method is perfect for the horns I want to make.
you, sir, are a mad genius.
+Frank Griffitts I aint mad, not sure about the other bit lol.
That was Amazing. Very cool.
+Louie Stravato Its fun stuff!
Great job mate! Well done and many thanks for all the great videos this year.
Looking forward to next year to see what it will bring.
Have a Happy Christmas and a very Happy New Year too.
+jjab99 And Merry Christmas to you as well!
great idea ...does it leave a lot of air pockets ? could'nt tell i the vid HFL !!
+deoblo85 no, its pretty solid, but a flexible foam would be a bit better- especially if it says self skinning- this needs a skin added to it.
That is phenominal! I need a project now. I need an excuse to try it.
+Jason Ice It has lots of possibilities! Go make stuff!
Great idea Allen!
+Greg Packard Glad you like them!

I think the stuffed latex is a great cheap way to go.
StiltbeastStudios Can you foam fill the latex then?
For thoses who missed it:

If I wanted to use this technique to make a foam arm, how would you suggest I go about making a pattern to fill?
+Brittanis LARP cover the whole arm in masking tape, cut it free, tpe it back up then foam fill. Masking tape or Clear packing tape. look at my clear tape bodies video.
I was planning to use the same foam, but I want to use a wood mold, What do you think I will need to put in the wood to demold?
Johnsons paste wax
And have no undercuts

+Jennifer sherwood Nope, I only show you guys the stuff that works ;)
+StiltbeastStudios are you coming back to spooky empire in April?
I was actually there for Halloween extreme- and I dont think that is happening this year so I doubt it.
Darn :( I think that I have learned more stuff watching your videos than a lot of other things that are available. PLEASE keep up the good work.
if you don't want to buy Tyvek, get some free at the usps post office or FedEx or Ups. they have Tyvek envelopes for free.
And many construction sites have big pieces of scrap!
