If you learn to cook like my mama and granny, you will become one of the best Southern cooks. Thank you so much for being a part of this dream of mine.
NOW FOR THIS FAMILY RECIPE:
Biscuit Cinnamon Rolls This recipe is in our Vol. 3 Cookbook
DOUGH: 2 CUPS SELF-RISING FLOUR
3/4 -1 CUP WHOLE BUTTERMILK
1/4 CUP CRISCO SHORTENING
FILLING: 1 STICK BUTTER (ROOM TEMP)
4 TBSP. GROUND CINNAMON
1/3 CUP SUGAR
ICING:
1/4 STICK ROOM TEMP BUTTER,
1 1/2 C. POWDERED SUGAR
1 TBSP. MILK
For dough: Blend Crisco & flour with a blending fork until shortening is pea sized. Add buttermilk a little at a time until all flour is wet & the mixture is just blended. Sift flour out on counter and put out dough. Sift flour on top, then knead dough 710 times. Roll dough out into a large sheet about 1/2” high. For filling: Spread 1/2 stick of butter on top of dough. Mix cinnamon & sugar together in a separate bowl, then sprinkle dough with 2/3 of the cinnamon/sugar, leaving some for garnish. Roll up dough, starting at one end until you have formed a complete roll. Sprinkle with a little flour if needed as you roll.
Using a bread knife, cut roll into 1” wide circles and place in a pan greased with shortening. Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes. While rolls bake, melt remaining butter. Take out rolls after 15 minutes, pour butter on them & sprinkle with remaining cinnamon/sugar. Bake 8-10 minutes. For the icing: Make a glaze with 1/4 stick butter at room temp., 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, & 1 tbsp. milk. Spread over rolls while hot. Enjoy!

Aw Tammy, I relate to your burning baby doll. We were dirt poor, but somehow Santa brought me a Sparkle Plenty doll. One day I took it with me when I went to play with some neighborhood girls. When I went home I had forgotten to take my doll with me, the next morning they said let’s burn this doll, and they put it in the oven, and much of it melted. These little girls weren’t dirt poor like we were, and when I went to get my doll the mom gave it to me, told me what the girls had done and kind of laughed it off like kids will be kids. I was only 5 or 6, but even at that age I felt the mom should have offered to replace the doll or give me money so I could get another one. Her kids had a lot of dolls and other toys, I didn’t. Here I am 75 years later remembering it like it was yesterday.
They were not friends. I totally relate to you. We didn't have much but what we did have meant something. God bless you now.
I live in Houston and my water from the tap kills my indoor plants. 🪴 it’s insane.
@@lolaottinger3038 I am so sorry. Things like that stay with you.
😢
No wonder you remember that! It was Horrible! I was the only girl with 5 brothers who always teased me when I played with dolls. I came home on day to find 3 of my brothers shooting arrows into my Patty Play Pal doll out in the backyard. I was horrified. My father did severely punish them but to this day, I’m 72, I’ll never forget it.
I love to watch you slinging things together with such confidence Tammy! Not many could decide to make cinnamon roll biscuits & "just do it," without too much planning. You are a true seasoned cook & I love to watch you in the kitchen. I also enjoy listening to the banter between you & Chris. I love "Chris’s sense of humor & enjoy it when he cooks - he is a treasure! You both are! Thanks for being family for this old Georgia girl!❤
Oh my God I'm so hungry and that looks awesome I wish I could cook like you Mrs Tammy..
As a kid in our LosAngeles neighborhood, every house had to have an ‘incinerator’ in their back yard. Looked like a small free standing chimney! There was no trash pickup and the norm was to burn our trash. Keep in mind, trash in those days was mostly natural materials! No toxic plastics. But the smog problem got bad enough for the city to start trash collecting and burning was no longer allowed. We also had a “Rag Man” and “Rag Drives” and “Paper Drives”for fund raising. Rags were natural materials and thus valuable for paper making. This came to an end with synthetic clothing and now discarded clothing is a global waste problem.
Those cinnamon raisin biscuits look great. I'm gonna try them for sure. Today I made biscuits out of the Southern biscuit mix formula L. They turned out so good. They were nice and fluffy. They were delicious. Thank you for telling us about it.
Sounds great!
I love sugar in my grits along with a fried egg sometimes. Yummy. I was born in California but my parents are from Texas and Louisiana. My husband was from South Carolina and he liked cheese in his. Isn't it nice to try food different ways? Versatility is good sometimes.
Yum! I’m from Delaware. Everything you cook looks wonderful! Wish I could eat one of those raisin biscuits . Warm here today at 81degrees. Has been in the 70s all week and beautiful❤❤❤
Augusta GA; I think it was 64° last night & a beautiful 84° today. Rain coming in Fri-Mon so enjoying while we can. I'll take a pan of those biscuits to go please.😊
Nothing no better than breakfast food anytime of the day.

I am in St. Charles, MO and the low here was 49 this morning. It felt good in the house tho! No AC running, if my seasonal allergies weren’t so bad I would have had my bedroom window open! Those biscuits look wonderful and I love, love, love grits!
Hello you two ☺️everything looks delicious 😋. We also burned our trash in a barrel. And hung clothes out on a clothesline. I remember my mom getting mad when the neighbor would turn on the trash can when her clothes were still on the line in the morning. The would smell like smoke 😳aww the good ole days ☺️
Brush the top of dough with butter before cinnamon and raisins.
I'll make a comment I'm intrigued by those biscuits I want to try those they look delicious. I enjoy your channel I enjoy the things you cook.
Hi! I'm in Washington State. In Kettle Falls, Washington. Up near the Canadian border. Last night, it got down to 42. I almost turned on the heater. ❤

Love you! 😊
You make it look so easy! From South Central Virginia
We didn't burn in a barrel just had a trash pile to burn. Didn't have plastic garbage bags either. Our garbage bags were the brown paper bags ftom the Piggly Wiggly!!!😂
I remember the days of using the paper bags from the store that way! Kind of a mess, as I recall.

Your hair looks so nice up in a bun like that, color and all! ❤Last night we were in the 70’s and mid 90’s still during the day, so not very cool here at all….but we are in Tampa, FL. I always zap my raisins with water in the microwave to make them plump for baking recipes
This lunch is going to be absolutely delicious, even though I've missed the video cuz I was at work. I look forward to your videos Tammy. I love watching you and Chris ☺️💜🩷👍

The nights here in Michigan lately have been around 59⁰.
I make these I usually put the raisins in the biscuit dough and pat out on counter and use a biscuit cutter then sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on top of biscuits then when cooled glaze tops with confectioners sugar and cream
I LOVE seeing you put SUGAR in grits instead of cheese!!!! Love me some southern sweet grits!
I enjoy all your recipes and y'all I'm in Hillsboro Illinois
Love these
I made the mistake of keeping my doll in a toy box where I thought it would be safe. I never played with it anymore but I loved it because it was soft and squishy and had great hair. My mom donated it to my cousins. I was so upset. She told me she could get it back but I was too embarrassed to say yes I wanted it. She did that with a few books I hadn’t read my grandma gave us too. I’d still have that doll probably. I never got rid of my kids thing but my mil had a garage sale and got rid of some of my kids things even their baby comforter. She donated books to her other grandchildren. I did ask for one book back. My sil probably thought I was crazy.
Here in Ky it was 44 last night Tammy. It is looking like fall and this delicious .meal would be so good right now.😋
You had to go and say chili, I have been dying for a good chili, I think it tastes better the next day. Looks delicious. You treat the in-laws very good, I had the best in-laws also, miss them every day.
I am in Louisville, KY. We were 89 low of 65.. end if 10 day maybe 80 for a HI
Tammy these biscuits look so good. I might try them without the raisins. So sweet of you to cook for everybody. Love you!
Hi from Cleveland Tennessee. I LOL at the hair comment because your hair looks good. This is my first time but I love your video with wife and husband team. Biscuit and sausage and grits sounds good.
Welcome!!
I've never heard of anyone putting sugar in their grits. I had to laugh at your comment about if their eating grits, they're from the south. My mama had a friend who said grits was exactly that, GRIT! Mama told her if that's what she thought, she never had them cooked the right way. I know most people from the rest of the country eat hominy or cream of wheat instead of grits.
Im gonna have to try those cinnamon raisin biscuits.
Looks awesome Tammy!
Louisiana. 64 last night
I call that yankee grits with sugar. haha
We ate a ton of Crisco growing up, but have only used butter for years.
New subscriber! Ms. Tammy you are my fave. I am 4 years younger than you but recall many similar memories. We burnt our trash in a burn barrel too however I am an only child so no meanie burning my babydoll haha. …. We burnt most paper packaging etc but reused a lot. One exception I recall is my Dad would use the egg shells in the composter to make rich gardening soil. My Dad a huge beautiful garden and I wish I knew the value of that when I was a child. Home grown anything always tastes best. Stay blessed
That is some stove!!!
47 here in SW W. Va. this morning. I have made those biscuits but not often. Grits I call cornmeal mush. Always make it a day ahead, then slice and fry in place of bacon with eggs. Never use Crisco. I opt for healthier fats--butter, ghee, lard, tallow. If I need an actual oil, I select avocado. I have a burn barrel. We're not supposed to burn trash either, but I do it anyway
Love Cinnamon Raisin Biscuits, Omgosh BEAUTIFUL MEAL😊. Thank you so much
I am in Dallas and this morning it was 63 degrees yeah!!👍. Those biscuits look fantastic
Love your videos and love your hair doo. Very pretty❤
Looks so delicious
Got to make those biscuits❤
Tammy, Every Christmas I got a new baby doll & a few paper dolls in between until I was 13 yrs old. Soo sorry hearing about your personable baby doll & carriage story.. couldn't help but wonder if you got even? Your cinnamon roll raisin biscuits made my mouth water especially knowing they had an added hint of orange. We've been buying Swaggerty sausage patties at Sam's Club for awhile & love them. TY for recommending to us viewers awesome products. Love & Appreciate Collard Valley Cooks Video's.
Oh my, I loved paperdolls!! Remember Betsy McCall from McCall's magazine? Introduced my grand neice to a book of 1940's paperdolls & outfits. She became addicted😅. So fun.
Gawd-DANG! Crazy kids, burning and cooking baby dolls! I cannot imagine. But those biscuits look ah-MAY-zen' (amazing, with a Southern accent). Love orange flavoring in powdered sugar icing. Yum. Thanks for sharing. I used to be afraid to make biscuits, but now after watching TH-cam videos, I find out you can pretty much make them with PEE, if you want (but who'd want that?) L-O-L, ROFL, in fact, at myself again.
I like you fork you mix with
we ate sugared grits....grits weren/t daddy's favorite, so mama didn't cook them as much.
I love you hair in this video!!
Yummmm😊
Your hair and makeup look really good.
Yummy
I’ll admit that I am not the best about hitting the Like button on your videos, but I do enjoy them all, particularly the live videos. I appreciate the time it must take to run such a wonderful TH-cam channel. I appreciate you and Chris both, and I thank you for letting us into your kitchen and your lives. ❤ P.S. I’m sure someone has pointed this out to you before, but the meat hook you use does not work for lefthanders. I’m a lefty, and I purchased one. It was quite comical, me trying to flip my chicken tenders. lol Having said that, I’ve purchased many products on your advice, and have been very pleased with all of them, except the meat hook. 😊
Oh no!
I love watching you Cook Tammy, and I love Swaggerty sausage. It is the leanest sausage I have every cooked.
Never had grits!
The store here in Montana had swaggerty sausage then stopped! It was so scrumptious!❤
Looks delicious! Here in Miami it got down to the low 80s.
Your hair looks great!
Do you find the mild Swaggerty sausage slightly spicey? Its great, we think its one of the best. Since I had covid 2 yrs ago nothing tastes the same.
A touch

Very southern Utah 43degrees
Yes I put sugar in my breakfast grits. I do the same thing with my egg shells. We can burn as long as we're not under a burn ban here in tTexas. Oooo the biscuits look great ❤❤
Looks soooo good
Throw it in the freezer for a few minutes and it'll be easier to cut
I’m in northern Minnesota and it’s hot humid and in the 80s
Tammy we always burned our trash when I was a kid. Always a memory. Love your live videos.
@@bertie-rk7df We did too, I often walked to my aunts house after school because my Mom was at work, she and her neighbors both had chickens, and oh my gosh those burning feathers and other chicken parts smelled so bad! I didn’t usually stick around for long when they
had feathers burning. We had no chickens so our burning trash didn’t smell quite so bad.
I really like your apron. So pretty! I love hummingbirds.
Thank you! 😊
Hey Tammy and Chris, y'all knocked it out of the park with this breakfast! I'm in Michigan and I like grits both ways, sometimes sweet and other times savory. And let me tell y'all, orange juice is good in cream potatoes too.
What a great lunch!
Love your programs and thank you for introducing me to Swaggertys sausage. They are the best. The only place I can find them is at Walmart. I just got your volume one and I love it
Wish u would give the recipe.
I love cinnamon raisin biscuits! We’re in Missouri and we had 41 this morning. Cooler weather is nice but I’m not looking forward to winter.
Hi! I’m curious where you got the large fork utensil that you cut in the Crisco with?
It is on collardvalleycooks.com
I live in southernmost WV and our temp last night was 41
