Last season none of the guards were capable enough or willingly to go downhill (penetrate pass finish) IMO. With the addition of James (perhaps little bit Kon) I would love to see this 2024 Duke team can show they are capable of doing that and doing well. This 2024 Duke team has all the element to execute well and above (compared to last year). Nothing personal to Coach Scheyer but I heard people said (most likely not a typical Duke fan) if coach Hurley with this team he will absolutely pick Duke to win it all. That's how good this Duke team can be.
i agree, i saw so many teams do that to duke over the years. penetrating and making duke collapse their defense, only to give open a wide open threeor a layup or even a dunk at the rim.about time duke do the same to other teams.
Scheyer should try everything possible to make things really tough on Flagg. It wouldn't hurt him at all to experience some humbling moments. Excited for this team.
Proctor and Foster are the best Backcourt duo in the country, Maluach is the best lob threat in the country and Flagg is the most talented player in the country. The 5th starter I think could be James if they want to play Flagg at the 4 or Brown if they want to play big with Flagg at the 3. Either guy would be hugely impactful off the bench. I think Ngomba will play considerable minutes at the 5 as well since most bigs aren’t playing 30+mpg. The other 4 guys, Kon, Harris, Evans and Gillis are going to have to fight for time but they all have something to bring to the table. They can all shoot the ball but I think early in the season Gillis’ experience will get him on the court ahead of the 3 freshmen. Injuries will happen though and they should be ready to step in when needed. The identity of this team will be on defense with their size and length. All they need to do is share the ball on offense and they will be a juggernaut.
Based on limited scrimmage clip and other observations. Among these 4 guys you mentioned (Kon, Harris, Evans and Gillis) I think Evans will be the last one to get the mission. Mason (the most experienced among 4), Kon (can handle PG duty on occasion) Harris (probably the best shooter in 2024 squad). That will be my guess of course things can change. This 2024 Duke team has 4 capable players (Proctor, Foster, James, Kon) can play PG if needed that's a huge plus too.
@@kohsiudai8196 100% agree. I’ve been very impressed with what I’ve seen from Kon handling the ball. Not only in this scrimmage but from some of the footage that’s online from the elite 100 camp. He knows how to make smart basketball plays and he knows how to use his body. And Gillis has the experience, coaches always love to have a guy they know they can trust to go in, hit open shots and not mess anything up. That’s Gillis to a T.
Gillis even though he has a 46% 3 point shooting percentage from last year only averaged around 6 points. I don't think he's averaged 8 or more ppg his entire collegiate career. I like Gillis and I'm not knocking him at all, I'm glad he chose Duke and is on the squad because his experience with definitely help but I expect much bigger impact from Knueppel, Evans,Harris(as long as his hand is healed, which it shouldn't be a problem) James. Foster,Proctor,James, Knueppel, Evans,Harris can all play pg and even Flagg can run the offense at times and I absolutely expect to see Flagg bringing the ball up the court quite a bit. Proctor, Foster,James will definitely handle the ball more than anyone else and Gillis can & probably will run the point some but I don't think it will be very much, maybe some early in the season but I wouldn't expect to see him as much later in the year. Gillis is definitely about adding defense and experience. Duke will be able to run so many different lineups it's gonna be insane, so much size and length is gonna cause headaches for opponents. Other than Proctor,Foster and Flagg I don't know who else will be the starters at the beginning of the season and I absolutely expect it to change by tournament time and i can't imagine that it wouldn't change a number of times during the season. As long as the minutes are done correctly I don't think it's a really big deal who starts because this team is loaded and if they can come together and play as a team, be unselfish, team 1st mentality then they should definitely be the best team in the country by tournament time. The talent and size on this team is absurd, they should be a dominant force on both ends of the court. Personally I think it's gonna be a very fun season, I wish it started today. Let's Go Duke 🏀 🏆
Don't forget that Maulach & Ngongba can both shoot the 3 ball, I'm not saying they are fantastic 3 point shooters but they're both capable of knocking it down, I think Maulach may be a little better at shooting the 3 than Ngongba. So them both being on the court at the same time might not clog up the lane as bad as some might think. Will we see Flagg,Brown, Ngongba & Maulach all on the floor at the same time? I doubt it very seriously but since Brown can also knock down a 3 and Flagg can shoot from anywhere then it's definitely not impossible. I'd say 2 of the 4 on the court at a time will be the norm but definitely expect to see 3 of the 4 on the court together at times. The clock has started to tick on the drive for number 6. We have now gone longer(barely) than any other time between winning a National Championship. Time to get #6 Let's Go Duke 🏀 🏆
Need discussion of a guard who will distribute ball. No reason to speak about Proctor & Foster shots & penetration as opposed to running an offense. Best teams move the ball. Very little ISO. Duke was among the worst teams last year in assists-to-baskets ratio. They had several games with single digit assists. Outrageously bad. Falls on Scheyer. If everyone is looking for their own shot, he needs to let them know that they’ll be sitting next to him if their priority is not full team basketball.
Lets go if this duke team can find a idenity on offense title game for sure cause defense is gonna be 1 of the best prob the best since 2001

i think sion james is the key to this team and the x factor
Agree. I’m not convinced that Proctor & Foster are presumptive starters.
